Corbin is a VERY VERY fast team that will hit you hard. I knew they had speed and while a little undersized on the line, they are stout. I didn't think the Hounds would be this physical. I was looking at the program and Corbin has some HUGE size in the younger ranks. 267, 290, 360, 260, 270, and that 6'4" 330 pound 8th grader coming up.

As good as Corbin is, unless Danville hobbles into Campbell Field with half their starters out, I don't think we'll see Corbin win by 4 tds. I hope you are right and respect your opinion. I just think it'll be a little closer than that.

That is a tough break for such a talented player. I hate to see any kid get hurt and especially during his senior year. I had a feeling he was going to and was hoping he switches his commitment over to UK from UofL. Regardless of where he goes, here is to a speedy recovery and best of luck.

I agree with you 100%. Danville is a team with a lot of speed and are well coached. While they may not be the Danville, we grew up knowing, they are still a top program in the state. I'm taking nothing away from the other programs, but not many can say they have the speed that Danville generally produces and definitely can't say they have a Sam Harp coaching them. Corbin has recently had the benefit of playing teams that they were simply faster than. With a team such as Danville, The Hounds will without question have to sustain some drives, be physical, and churn out the clock. Sure Watkins, Fritts, Taylor, ect will have a big play or 2 of their own because they are simply "That Good" but I don't think it will be as consistant Saturday night due to the level of competition and speed of the opponent.

You bring up some great points. As a history buff myself, I love throwing around the "what ifs", "what may be", and "would this" kinda things around. It is definitely an interesting thing. I don't know if it means Corbin will go on to win state but on top of the two years you mentioned, Corbin has went on to have great seasons. The last time these two teams played was back in 2000. Danville won 35-6 in the bowl game at the Stadium of Champions. That was the second best Corbin team in my recent memory. They went on to lose to Glasgow in the semis after Stephen Cook was injured. Danville probably still would have won the game but Corbin was missing about 4 starters and fumbled the ball 7 or 8 times that night against the Ads. Hopefully this game will turn out to be a better game and is just the first of two games between these two programs this season.

Always good to see Corbin vs. Danville playing on the gridiron. It brings back memories of the old days. While this game may not have the implications of the games of the past, you can bet your rear end that Coach Jewell and Coach Harp will let the youngsters know what Corbin and Danville is all about. Two of the states most renowned programs squaring off in one of the states best bowls. I think Corbin may have the edge talent wise and with the homefield. However, those advantages won't be as big as one may think. Both teams will play hard and til the end. Just from reading on here, I think Corbin may play with a little more heart than the Ads. Corbin's speed is also an overlooked part of the game. Lots of people think Corbin, and associate it with 6'3 240 pound bruisers that will run over you. Thank you, I think Harlan will be much improved and Corbin still has some questions up front but the talent differential clearly favors the Redhounds. The score may very well be closer than what is suggested on paper but without seeing either team this year, I'm going to have to go against the old saying of "games aren't played on paper". I wish I could have came out to the scrimmage tonight. Sounds like there wasn't much flash but solid football. Coach Jewell and Larkey both seem to be cut from the old school mold. I wouldn't expect either to go all out in scrimmages. Where a lot of coaches, like to show off their teams, these two, seem to use them for what they are. That is a scrimmage to simply give their teams a look at something different than what they have been accustomed to in the past couple weeks. I think both teams will have fine seasons.

Does this line compare with the Bowling, Broyles, Davis, Cleary, Arena, Millard line in size? 2005 maybe?

With a lot of my family and friends as well as many other Corbin locals being from the area and former Green Dragons, it is good to see these two teams playing. From all indication, Harlan will be a much improved team this season. 14 seniors for a small class A school is pretty impressive. While I'd temper expectations, I do think Harlan can be a playoff team this year and maybe even sneak up on some teams. I'm obviously a Corbin fan and can realize anything can happen on a given Friday night but some folks fail to realize that Corbin would more than likely be a top 5-10 team if they were A, AA, AAA, or AAAA in their respective class. The Hounds have some questions of their own but are extremely experienced and feature one of Kentucky's best backfields featuring two of the better backs in Kentucky. I think they will win the game but I don't expect the Green Dragons to lay down for them. Corbin will be in for a battle! Best of luck to both teams.

Going from 2A to 4A would be quite the jump. I have no doubt that Corbin would be able to handle such a jump though. However, isn't the football classification based on male students? I was always under the impression that the Hounds would be in 3A once there is a reclassification.

I am tickled with the job Tony has done but I just about jumped through the roof when I read this. Still, I am glad to see Billy bringing his team down. He's a great guy and a close family friend. He's always welcome in the Tri-Counties.

How big is the kid from Georgia and what grade is he in?

Yes I do believe it was last season that Corbin was in the three team scrimmage. The third team escapes my mind. Wayne County maybe? The Cashen era was a great 4 years with him running the offense. It allowed Corbin to change it up and modernize the offense. However after he graduated on 2008, Corbin quickly went back to Redhound football. There is no smoke and mirrors with Corbin's offense. The Hounds will line up, tell you what they are doing and run it down your throat all while daring you to stop them. I'll admit that Id like to see a little more passing be involved into an offense because honestly, a balanced attack is what wins championships more often than not. However, if you got the horses to go back to an old school style as Corbin does, more power to them. I absolutely cannot wait for this game. To some folks, 32 minutes of 3 yards and a cloud of dust may be boring but to me, I eat it up. Look forward to seeing you guys.

Danville will always have my respect. As a Corbin fan, I have always loved the Corbin/Danville rivalry. These are two true 2A Icons. Although they haven't played in 8 or 9 years, I am excited to see them renew it this year. I live in Lexington now and went to watch the Danville/Boyle game last year. I could see the talent but as stated, something was lacking. It didn't appear to be that old Admiral Swagger. I hope that can be restored. Rumor or no rumor, lineman or running back, the Hounds look very tough. I do admit I wouldn't object to a lineman or two moving into town. Nothing against the current linemen because they are excellent players. Although, as stated before, depth will be the key. 1-11 Corbin will be fine and has potential to be as good as any team in the state with the exception of a few 5 and 6A schools. However, depth could play a huge role when it counts, especially on the line where generally they are bigger and not as conditioned. With that said, although they need a line, Corbin's backfield and Special Teams could very well be good enough to provide quite the cushion in some games. People have been focusing on Watkins after he took over and made himself into one probably one of the top 5 running backs in the state but have forgotten about Fritts. Before the injury, Fritts was on his way to having one of the better seasons I can remember from a Corbin back. Throw in Taylor, Foley, and whoever else and it could be quite special.

Gotta love the speculation around town when new players come to Corbin. I'd love to hear more about him. Hope he's a beast.

I think the one he is waiting for could come with patience. He's blown them away for two years from what I hear at their camp. Plus it'd just be an hour North of Corbin.

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the way times have changed. With this generation being more of a technological world, kids find video games, internet, etc as more entertaining. Also I think a lot of kids these days probably have the mindset that only 11 players can be on the field at a time, so why should I bust my tail to stand on the sidelines. If kids could see that being part of such an illustrious tradition and on a team that is nearly always successful, they would be surprised at the fun they could have. I know at lot of people may say Coach Jewell and Coach Farris are too strict, tough on the kids, yada, yada, yada but those guys love each and every kid out there. People forget that this is also part of their job and as with any job, they must do what they feel best to be successful. I can promise you that if the kids that take the benchwarmer mentality, would work hard to learn and impress the coaches, they would play. Any fine coach (and Corbin has some good ones) would love to have depth. I'm sure their peers that are getting beat up playing both ways would enjoy having a break as well.

For a 2A team, 50-55 is a pretty big squad. I would like to see Corbin dress around 60 players. However, I can remember as a kid that you could confuse Corbin for a 4A school based on the players they had. I hope we can get back to that. With the times, it seems as if kids have forgotten how big of a deal football is to this community. I hope that can be nipped in the bud before all interest leaves.

I thought the KHSAA did away with the summer passing camps?

Corbin won the girls team title. They also won first and second in the doubles. I think Middlesboro's girl beat Freeman in singles.
