It might also help if you truly "knew" who you are conversing with "pretend" old man. (You may know my identity, you don't know me or my story.) I say "pretend" because I genuinely cannot believe that anyone who actually participated in building the Tomcat Tradition would be so condescending and disrespectful to Ashland's opponents. This attitude is truly embarassing to anyone who ever did anything in the gym or on the field to "earn" even one victory. You're entitled to your opinion, and I can see it is pointless to try to persuade you. My opinion is that it is posts like the one quoted above that fuel anti-Ashland sentiments FAR MORE than any legitimately earned achievement, by any Tomcat athlete(s) in the history of the program.

Anyone who ever donned the glorious maroon and white, and busted their tail to develop their mind, body and competitive skills to notch each and every precious victory that has added to the Ashland tradition would find their accomplishments, sacrifice and contributions irreparably cheapened by allegations of "home-cooking" of any kind. It’s bad enough when a school’s detractors do it. It is beyond comprehension why a school’s boosters would do it. You and others forward “the deep rooted hatred for the winningest sports program in the state” as an explanation for the persecution the program must endure. I would suggest it has far less to do with others jealousy over eight decades of achievement than it does with the chest thumping, back slapping and crowing that goes on today when things are good, and the unbelievable whining that goes on when things don’t work out. That is not how “the winningest sports program in the state” got to be ”the winningest sports program in the state.” I can assure you it is not how to keep that tradition alive and growing.

I'm not here to defend officiating one way or the other, but you bring up a theme I've heard over and over in this region. In fact, I heard a certain radio broadcaster make a statement during the Ashland/BC game last night complaining about the bad calls he felt were being made and he concluded it with, "...and we're at home" as if that should actually factor into an official's decision making process. He even went on to comment about how BC coach Zornes was able to hire refs for his games while coaching at Ironton, as if that were preferable to the supposedly neutral assigning secretary system we have in Kentucky. I always thought a home court advantage had more to do with playing in familiar surroundings, with a bigger home crowd cheering, maybe a pep band and big student section, a short drive to the home gym instead of a bus ride wherever. I never would have guessed that it meant that the officiating should also favor the home team. Call me Pollyanna, but I'd settle for a fairly called game anytime, anywhere... home or away. I would think that's what the refs should attempt to deliver, regardless of the gym they're blowing (or not blowing) their whistle in. What am I missing here? As far as the assigning secretary is concerned, he is a former Ashland grad, and a standout for the Tomcats in his own right. He worked his way up to officiating at the D1 level, and is one of the most upstanding individuals I know. The fact that this game was not unfairly slanted in favor of the home team tells me he is apparently doing his job as it should be done. :thumb:

You guys crack me up. I was responding to what I have to say struck me as a pretty condescending post by Ms. Liberty: Rather than argue with her, I decided to play along. I have never said one negative thing about anyone; coach, player, fan or general citizen in Elliott County. Not in over 7,300 posts. Not in real life. Thank God, the kids and parents in Elliott County who know me also know I love each and everyone of them, and genuinely wish them nothing but the best. (Including Ms Liberty. ) Funny thing is, every one of those Elliott boys are the same way. They look me in the eye, say "Yes Sir" "No Sir" laugh, shake hands with a firm grip, some even let me give 'em a hug. I have nothing but admiration for them. They step across the line or onto the golf course and try their best to cut your heart out, and then when it's all over, win, lose or draw, they look you in the eye, shake your hand and tell you good game. They are proof there are some really good kids left in the world. I don't think any objective evaluation would disagree that they are further along the development curve than most other teams in the region. That's a far cry from claiming they've peaked. Even so, they're going to have to earn any championships they may win. I don't think they'd want it any other way, and I can assure you there's at least one team determined to give them a run for their money. :thumb:

Me too... I have enough gray hair as it is. :lol: My point is that of RH's current top ten, eight will play again next season... six will play again season after next. That's a young team IMO.

RH starts two seniors and three sophs. They sub 2 juniors, 1 soph and 2 freshmen. Euton and Jackson are mature beyond their years, but this is a young team by "almost" anyone's standards. If it makes you feel better, I'll conceed that Elliott is young too, starting four juniors and a freshman. :thumb:

Wow... No offense, but it's December 5th. The earliest RH could possibly meet up with Elliott County would be Monday, January 21st at the 16th Region All A Classic. That's if Elliott Co. defeats Raceland in the first round Saturday, Jan 19th. I'd say their chances are good, but anything's possible. If so, that's seven weeks and 16 to 18 games away. I know everybody is tired of hearing about how RH is a young team, but they are and I would certainly like to think they will continue to improve between now and then. From everything everyone has posted, it appears that Elliott has started the season in March form. They're averaging 117 ppg. They clearly have a lot less room (or need) to improve than other teams in the region. So, it is a matter of playing catch up for everybody else. Even so, I think it's a bit premature to hand them the title the first week of December. :lol:

It felt like March in early December in the Fairview gym tonight. Both schools had good crowds that were very vocal. Euton had a double-double scoring 14 and pulling down 11 boards. Jackson had 27 points and 8 boards. I don't have stats for Fairview, but Hall and Collins played big. This was a brutal half court contest, with a lot of banging and bumping inside the 3pt arc. A true old school style game. :thumb:

Fairview is a talented young team, but I'm going with RH on this one. Whether it's by 1 or 50, a W is a W. :thumb:

I wasn't picking on your NBA comment Cubby, just saying 132 is equivalent to 198 in a 48 minute NBA game. That's unreal. I'm surprised they kept the roof on the gym... or didn't have to replace the net on the Elliott end at halftime.

You say NBA type numbers for Elliott early in the season, but when you figure that Elliott is only playing eight minute quarters vs. 12 minute quarters in the NBA. Stretching Elliott's 117 ppg average from 32 minutes to 48 minutes would equal 175 ppg. I can't recall an NBA game that got anywhere close to 175 points.

The only surprise I see is that you didn't post it like this... Not being a smart aleck, that's just how it is as of December 3.

How in the world does Rose Hill figure into an Elliott Co/Greenup Co game thread? :confused: The only RH posters I've seen in this thread have either been complimentary or just asked questions about the game. There is wisdom in respecting one's opponents. :thumb:
