  1. Chase Estep from Corbin has only ran the ball once the past 3 games since sustaining an ankle injury in the Mayfield game. He also has only thrown it 40 times in the 3 games, although he completed 35 of those. His Mr. Football stock has probably taken a big hit during this period as well.
  2. Williamsburg has played a much better schedule, so I look for that to favor them a little. Williamsburg 34 - Lynn Camp 30.
  3. I was pleasantly surprised that Corbin was able to run the ball as well as they did, especially considering Estep only ran it once the entire game. He is still nursing the ankle injury he suffered in the Mayfield game and it appeared to me that Haddix was being extremely careful with him last night. As far as the penalties, it kind of seemed to me that Bell was trying to get penalized after Corbin got the safe lead.:idunno: They got one unsportsmanlike conduct penalty while lined up and before the ball was snapped, must have been something they said was all I could deduct.
  4. Corbin is a ranked a little too high in my opinion, probably should be #4 or 5. They are more explosive offensively, but penalties and lack of a consistent running game may cost them at some point, possibly as early as this Friday.
  5. Knox Central up 31-6 with 9 minutes left to play.
  6. Knox Central up 24-6 at the half.
  7. Maguet returns the opening kickoff 73 yards for a TD, then he gets a pick 6 to put Corbin up 14-0. It's now 42-0 at the half.
  8. Treyveon Longmire, Corbin running back has run for 251 yards on 30 carries and caught 11 passes for 227 yards for the varsity. He also has returned a kickoff for a TD.
  9. Congrats to Whitley Co. on getting a much needed district win. North Laurel may go without a win in their district, even though it appears to be down this year as well.
  10. Corbin should have dropped down to around #4 in my opinion. They have struggled offensively since losing their #1 WR Gosselin in the first series of the second half against Beechwood. The defense looked tired down the stretch against Beechwood and also in the second half against Mayfield, even though they were platooning. I have also heard some chatter about their 2 platoon system and the elite teams exposing some weaknesses that might not be there if a few of the players played both ways.
  11. Bell Co. had 2 very good players transfer in, one being their QB, so I'm going with Bell Co. in this one.
  12. How many times did Estep get sacked, seemed like 8-10. He is still learning the QB position, and Mayfield taught him some hard lessons last night. He has been able to make plays out of nothing against most of the other teams this year, but the Mayfield defense was very disciplined and wouldn't allow him to escape. They were also able to double on #8, take away the short routes and dare anyone else to beat them deep, which didn't happen.
  13. That could have been a 14 point swing. Give Mayfield credit though for taking advantage of it though. Mayfield is just a better team.
  14. Corbin missing their big QB on those short yardage situations.
  15. Looked like an obvious pass interference not called on that 4th down.
  16. No, it was Steely. Gosselin is the WR who is out hurt for Corbin.
  17. Corbin is getting whipped at the LOS, plus Mayfield is taking away the deep ball even if Estep had time to throw it. Haddix is trying to keep Estep healthy by not allowing him to run the ball if at all possible, which is a smart move at this point of the season in my opinion. They need to establish the running game though, and can't seem to without committing crucial holding penalties.
  18. That was Steely, who basically only played special teams last year. He is a Jr. and is playing WR this year, possibly the fastest kid on the team
  19. Longmire, freshman RB for Corbin returns the kick 95 yards for the TD
  20. I believe Corbin is going to miss Sizemore in this game. He was able to get the tough yards necessary to sustain drives, therefore keeping the Mayfield offense off of the field. They have a running back that may be capable of taking on that load, but he hasn't been asked to do much of that yet, so the jury is still out. Mayfield 35 Corbin 21
  21. Corbin has actually been a big play offense this year, which may not bode well for the Hounds in this game. They have 3 receivers averaging over 20 yards per catch, although Estep's #1 target will be out with an injury for a while and have had around 15 plays of more than 50 yards each. Beechwood get a pretty good job of taking that away and Corbin didn't do a very good job of taking what was open(the imtermediate routes) that game. The big pass plays came a little too easy and too often in the previous games, so I guess it's understandable that they were not real patient that game. I expect Mayfield will be able to play over the top help on Steely's side and won't have to play the 2 deep safeties with Gosselin not being available. Corbin will have to establish the running game with the RB's and also throw over the middle some if they are going to win this game.
  22. There weren't a few calls in the game that went against Corbin that I didn't like, such as the illegal formation called against the QB who was under the center that brought back a TD or the illegal substitution that wiped out a 1st down late or the leaping the defender unsportsmanlike penalty, but it doesn't necessarily mean the calls were wrong.:sssh: I'm sure the Beechwood fans feel the same way, so no matter what someone is going to be complaining. Officiating looks like a pretty difficult job to me.:idunno:
  23. The Beechwood defensive coaches did a very good job of mixing up their coverages and made the Corbin passing game look out of synch much of the game. Estep's big arm and ability to make something out of nothing created some opportunities for the Hounds, but Estep's inexperience at QB also showed as well. This will be a huge learning experience that I expect he will learn from and may pay dividends come playoff time.
  24. I was very impressed with the QB. He was the only one on Beechwood who had any success running the ball as well, really surprised me that Corbin shut down their running game.
  25. It didn't appear to me that he was hit in the head, more like the defender put his helmet to his back after the ball went through the receiver's hands in the end zone. I wouldn't have liked the call if I were a Beechwood fan, but there was really no reason to even hit he receiver and take a chance on that call being made.
