Class 3A

Things nearly got wild in Class 3A last week. Boyle County was missing star Reese Smith and had to withstand a tough challenge from 6A North Hardin to remain perfect. Corbin bit off more than they could chew against 2A Mayfield and took one on the chin. Lexington Catholic equated themselves well but fell short against 2A DeSales. Central got a surprising scare from Henry County but still held serve. This week, don't expect any flare for the dramatic from the Top 5. Between off-weeks and District play it should be quiet at the top. That doesn't mean there is nothing to get excited about. Bell County and Casey County will clash in a battle of unbeaten teams with the loser putting themselves in an auspicious position in the playoffs potentially.

6. Casey County vs. #8 Bell County

In 3A, all eyes will be on the Casey County/Bell County game this week.

Corbin should have dropped down to around #4 in my opinion. They have struggled offensively since losing their #1 WR Gosselin in the first series of the second half against Beechwood. The defense looked tired down the stretch against Beechwood and also in the second half against Mayfield, even though they were platooning.

 

I have also heard some chatter about their 2 platoon system and the elite teams exposing some weaknesses that might not be there if a few of the players played both ways.

Corbin should have dropped down to around #4 in my opinion.

 

While I agree with you, I don't think the difference between Corbin, Central, and Belfry is very big - at least on paper. Corbin probably got some leeway for losing to a really good opponent in what was essentially a four hour away road game.
