Are you talking about Ferris? There is another Freshman that has great footskills and holds his own. He is on JV. His size is the only thing keeping him from being Varsity, IMO, besides the depth the program has right now.

I think that there is something to be said for high school soccer in regards to athletic ability. Many Freshman coming from club teams may technically be Varsity level, but if they aren't Varsity size wise, it is only a matter of time before they get exploited. Highlands has a Freshman on Varsity who has the jets and the athleticism. He can definitely help. It will be interesting to see how he does. He looked great at tryouts.

I may make the Highlands v Boone game. I'm interested in seeing how they do. They replace a ton from last year.

Skill positions are really never an issue. It always comes down to the lines with their depth and size.

Highlands has a huge junior class. Last year the team was all sophomores with two freshman. This year, eight of those juniors are on varsity. I believe that 7 Juniors are on JV with 1 Freshman and the rest Sophomores. I don't know how that will affect games against teams where they need middle school players, but it will have to impact a couple. It is a unique situation.

CovCath has abnormally tall receivers, but Eddie's best teams required slot guys who could run the wing back sweep and screens in space. A mismatch on the inside of the outside third. Who fills that role? Those are the kids who make game planning fun.

Who in NKY gets kids from Cincy that have made significant impacts? Holy Cross is the only one I know.

How do you have that few scored against you and lose 4 games? Did the offense go to different fields and miss the game 4 times?

I'm a huge history buff and the Lakota Sioux have always fascinated me. I would love to go to the Black Hills and see them. How far from the fields are they?

It was just Caymon and I and that was really special since we don't get much one-on-one time. We stayed in St. Louis Tuesday and watched a Cardinals game. Wed we went to Sporting KC's Open Cup match and he is now a fan of theirs for life. That was entertaining. He scored one goal in the second game and forced a penalty in the 3rd game that was converted. Those were the only two goals they scored. Their team was really a good unit. The team that won the weekend was the team they lost to 1-0 in the first game. Lou Fusz scored on a corner after Darpel went out. What could have been.

KHA Grey goes 0-3. I couldn't be prouder of them. With their full team, they win their group going away. They were down Both CBs and central midfielder from CovCath (retreat week). That killed them b/c Brandenburg and Schroeder had turned into a great partnership. Losing Wessels killed them b/c he did it all for them. Team leader, leading scorer, set piece threat. They were also down their holding midfielder and glue of the team Phil Bright from Cov. Latin. On top of that they were missing their 3rd midfielder and starting right wing. They were able to pick up Nate Darpel at CB which was huge, but he sprained his ankle in the second half of the first game. They also picked up Jack Jordahl and he did a great job of combining in the midfield. 3 games in 3 days in 90+ degrees just wasn't sustainable for the minutes they all played. They gave what they had. I would also like to say that Elder is EXTREMELY lucky to have Tony Gray as their Varsity coach. He is awesome.

It shows the confidence that Eddie has that he brings on coaches with pedigrees like Warner. He sees it as an opportunity to improve his team, not as a threat to his position. Every school should want, and/or make, their coach feel like that.

U16 KHA Gray beats KHA Blue in Extra time thanks to a Ben Wessels goal. They then take out Owensboro United in extra time for the a 3 to 2 win. On to Kansas City.

U16 KHA Blue played NKSA Pro. My son played against 4 high school teammates. Ryle had 2 and 2. It is much more enjoyable than watching a game against CUP Gold or Black where everyone knows 1 kid.
