  3. Euton is already 6'8", so 99% won't every catch up no matter their age (height-wise). He is also a pure shooter. He's not very athletic, but neither was Larry Bird -- a tall, not very athletic pure shooter with the heart of a lion. I think that Euton's future will be decided by his 'heart'. He has the other tools.
  4. Breathitt lost a lot from last season....probably 70% of their scoring in Hollon and Smith. They also lost a solid player in Aaron Combs. Who do they return? Rumor has it that Jade Haddix nor Channing Fugate will be playing this year.
  5. Yep, you're right. And I don't know who Cordia has this year.
  6. Owsley - Devon Evans **************************** Estill - Tristan Cackling, ? Hoover, Trey Whisman. Cackling in a top 10 player in the 14th. **************************** Lee - Aaron Charles, Jerod Pelfrey, Tyler Campbell, D. Pittman. Charles is a top 10 player in the 14th. **************************** Powell - ??. Christian Brewer is gone, don't know who remains. Crowe?. **************************** Nick Noble and Dakota Ritchie should be the top two on the Breathitt squad. Congleton and Taulbee.....may be the top two. Time will tell. **************************** JBS has Garrison Collins, Brent Hall and Clint Stepp.Collins is a top 10 player in the 14th. **************************** KCC has Tate Cox and Stuart Stamper, both top 10 players in the 14th. Richard Caudill will be a factor on this squad. **************************** Hazard: Whitaker....Michael Campbell (if he plays) are both top 10 players in the 14th. Jones is a key player. **************************** LCC: Banks and Blair return as their top two. Banks is probably a top 10 player in the 14th. **************************** PCC: Klay Maggard and ? Noble probably top two, but Amis and Salyers very good also. Noble may prove to be a top 10 player in the 14th. **************************** Buckhorn: Andy Blank, probably a top 10 player in the 14th. **************************** Leslie - ? Morgan, ? Hacker. **************************** JCS: Gayheart and Goff **************************** Wolfe: Campbell and Hayes **************************** Riverside: ?? **************************** Oneida: ?? **************************** TOP 10 PLAYERS (ALPHABETICALLY) : BANKS, BLANK, CACKLING, CAMPBELL, CHARLES, COLLINS, COX, NOBLE, STAMPER, WHITAKER
  7. Two more families moved into Lee County this month. Both have sons that play basketball. One is a smooth and athletic Sophomore guard from Jessamine County (I think). The other is a Junior transfer from a local Christian school but I don't know anything about him.
  8. I think that the total enrollment average around 350 at LCHS (down from around 450 in the 1980's). This years' incoming freshmen class is a bit above average with about 90 students. The current national economic situation is causing some of the northern factory workers to return home where the 'cost of living' is much lower. I graduated from LCHS in the late 70's and returned 'home' about 4 years ago. Good to hear from you!
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that Owsley has a railroad. How many other counties without a railroad?
  10. Last year (07-08) at this time: JBS was preseason ranked head and shoulders above everyone else in the 14th. THAT TURNED OUT VERY WRONG. Breathitt County was ranked very high with some giving them a chance at JBS. THAT TURNED OUT VERY WRONG. Perry Central was placed pretty far down the list. THAT TURNED OUT VERY WRONG. At this time next year I'm sure that their will be 'out of place' errors that are similar.
  11. Published in the July 31, 2008 Beattyville Enterprise: NEW BOBCAT "The Lee County High School Bobcats will be getting an addition this basketball season. Dontarius Pittman, 16 year old from Stockbridge, GA, has moved to Lee County this summer. The 6'4" sophomore to be was a member of the Georgia State AAU team this year..." His grandmother is a former teacher at Lee County. With this added inside presence and one of the top players in the region in 6'4" Aaron Charles and the rest of Lee's returning team, Lee County could surprise the 14th this season. I've met him, watched him, and besides being a fine young man, this kid is definitely a player and will impact the 14th for the next three years.
  12. Charles (Lee Co) holds his own with any listed plus he is a 6'4" guard. Letters from EKU already as well as from several smaller schools.
  13. Good win for the Owls! Was St John playing for the South Laurel team? He's a big strong kid, about 6'7". I think that South Laurel had a team competing at Knott co last weekend, but without St John. They were called the Kentucky Heat or something like that and were pretty solidly thumped in the couple of games that I watched. But again, without St. John.
  14. I haven't been able to come up with other stats so far. Maybe someone else has them, but I'll keep trying.
  15. I think that the 53/54 won over the 55/56 in all four games. In the underclassmen boys game the final score was 115-117. Cox nor Whitaker played for the 53/54; Dakota Ritchie did not play for the 55/56 team due to an injury, leaving them a little shallow in the middle. Aaron Charles (Lee Co) led all scorers with 26 pts (60% shooting), 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the underclassmen game while playing only half the game. (All players play equal time and rotated every 5 minutes) Interesting that last weekend Aaron Charles led all scorers with 26 pts (55% shooting) and 10 assists in the Adidas All Star Junior game at Hindman in a win over the15/16 region all stars, again playing half the game. 14TH REGION ALL STAR GAME @ PCC, SUNDAY, APRIL 13. 18. 14th Region All Star Game to be held at PCC this coming Sunday (4/13) @ Perry County Central. Anyone know who will be playing on the Senior Team? Anyone know who will be playing on the Underclassmen Team?
  19. I watched part of the senior game. Johnson is very athletic but the name that I kept hearing announced as I left the place was....Landon Slone. The North squad was up by 10+ in the first quarter.
  20. The North squad won this one. Elisha Justice stood out imo. 21. The South Junior All Stars won handily...116 to 98 (I think). The size of the North not a factor. Justin Jones had the only dunk in this game and played great defense against Collins. Buckhorn's Andy Blank did play. In short, the South team meshed and played well together. Unofficially, Charles led the South team offensively with 26 or 28 pts. Siedel probably around 18. Maggard played great inside, getting boards against the much taller North players. Amis also played well. Profit, Cackling and Warren led the North squad. Adidas Junior Silver Medal Game Elite Juniors ( 7:00 p.m. ) South Junior All Stars ( These players should bring their white or home H.S. uniform ) James David Strange - 6' 2" - Pineville Andy Blank - 6' 0" - Buckhorn Josh Crawford - 6' 4" - Corbin Michael Campbell - 6' 3" - Hazard Justin Jones - 6' 5" - Hazard Josh Seidel - 6' 1" - North Laurel Deron Scott Amis - 6' 3" - Perry Central Aaron Charles - 6' 4" - Lee Co. 22. 1) Would it make any difference why he was ruled ineligible this year in determining his eligibility for next year? The student has sat out for one full year. Even in the most blatant circumstances, such as telling the KHSAA specifically that the only reason that a transer was sought was for athletic purposes, after sitting out one year wouldn't the kid be eligible next year? 2) Are there any instances where any KY high school student/athlete has been declared ineligible for two consecutive years? Isn't the penalty for failing to meet eligibility requirements 'one year of inielgibility'? So having completed that 'sentence', wouldn't a student be eligible at any high school in the state of KY after sitting for a year? (I am aware that the KHSAA would normally have to 'approve' the eligibility under certain circumstances)
  23. If a student was ruled inelgible this year (did not participate in any high school athletics this year) and now wants to transfer to his 'home school' where he now lives, is there any possiblitly that he would be ruled athletically inelgible (again) next year? Who could a person talk to that is most knowledgable of such situations? The KHSAA bylaws regarding the situation seem to be as follows: Bylaw 6. Transfer Rule Sec. 1) Domestic Students Possible Waivers for one year inelgibility: f) NON ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION FOR AN ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR - In the event that the transferring student did not participate in an interscholastic contest at any level in any sport while enrolled in grades nine through twelve at the sending school during the entire academic school year immediately preceding the change in schools. Case BL-6-8- Is there an exception to the one year ineligibility period if a student sits out one year at the sending school? Yes, through action of the 2005 Annual Meeting, the period of ineligibility may be waived if a student does not participate in (an interscholastic contest at any level in any sport) for an entire school year at any level, after having previously established eligibility. This should be indicated on appropriate line of the transfer form (GE06) prior to its submission to the office.
  24. 1. Hurt - Cordia 2. Gay - Buckhorn 3. Noble - Perry Central 4. Banks - Letcher 5. Clark Stepp - JBS 6. Stamper - Knott 7. Christopher - Estill 8. Charles - Lee 9. Davidson - Jackson City 10. Campbell - Hazard sounds good.
