  1. It was recently posted that Powell Co has the greatest free throw disparity of any team in the state by posting the records straight from the KHSAA record site. Below are both the recent postings and the records from less than 30 days ago. Many people were amazed that something this blatant should be 'on the books'. The recent KHSAA record book 'updated' the free throw attempts to "55" instead of "50" attempts per game, thus removing Powell Co from the record book at least SIX TIMES! Does anyone find it fishy that right after this obvious disparity was pointed out that the record book was 'revised' to drop several of the Powell stats? I wonder how long those records have been in situ .... and ZAP...suddenly a bunch of them are eliminated by the revised rules. A conspiracy theory was thrown up earlier in jest..... And remember, the district tourney will be at Powell Co this year.... Old records in GREEN. I don't have the time right now.
  2. Biased eyes make for subjective views. I'm not saying that you are wrong....I haven't even saw the video, but I do know that if you let two opposing fans watch the same 'slow-mo' that quite often there is still disagreement. Situations arise often when a second is split and errors are made. If the situation were reversed, I am sure that I would want to conclude that my team was robbed. Even if errors were made, I know they were not deliberate. Now this is my opinion, but if Estill's #10 and #4 aren't allowed to foul continually in the paint on defense (to offset Estill's lack of size), then this Estill squad would have lost most of their district games this year. Estill has good guard play on offense but use their hands A LOT on interior defense. I'm no supporter of Powell, but that is why the 'neers won so handily against them. And it is how Estill stayed in the game at Lee.
  3. Congratulations Bobcats! Charles finished with 27 including the "0.6 second remaining" trey to win the game. Christopher and Cackling both played well for Estill. Lee's Campbell and Pelfrey rebounded great and they got great play from their guards as well. I hope that the Engineers and fans realize that this was a miracle shot. The officials certainly didn't 'give' the game to Lee, as Charles was knocked to the floor with 2.7 seconds remaining and there was no call. Lee had to inbound the ball 3/4 length of the floor, Charles caught it, jumped, turned in the air and released the prayer. He must'a been a good boy, 'cause it went 'swish'. But as I said, the officials hardly give you a game when you have the ball 70 feet from you basket, down by 2, with 0.6 seconds left; especially after a possible foul that wasn't called on Estill on the prior inbounds play.
  4. LEE CO. 77, BREATHITT CO. 74 BREATHITT CO. (8-8) — Ritchie 21, Hollon 23, Taulbee 4, Haddix 4, Smith 15, Moore 2, Fletcher 5. LEE CO. (10-10) — Drake 19, Taulbee 5, Charles 24, Campbell 9, Pelfrey 18, Wise 2. Breathitt Co. . . . . . . .11 15 17 31—74 Lee Co. . . . . . . . . . . .13 20 19 25—77
  5. Charles led all scorers with 24 (even though he missed 4 freethrows), Hollon had 23 for the game. Unofficially (and from memory) Pelfrey and Smith had about 18. Drake had around 20, Ritchie had 18 or so. Lee was cruising with a 9 - 11 pt lead until the bench was called for a cheap technical resulting in a 4 point swing right about the start of the 4th. Hollon took over at the point guard position after halftime and shot just about every shot in the second half. I thought that Lee should have doubled him and made him give up the ball.
  6. So, Strike3 (or anyone else listening), are you insinuating that officials never deliberately make 'wrong' calls? I think it is not as prevelant as some presume, but probably not as infrequent as others think. Of course officials can change the outcome of a game....easily. All they have to do is 'focus' their attention on a particular player and get him in foul trouble, or call walking to keep him from dribbling, or call 'over the back' to keep him from rebounding, or call charges to keep him from penetrating.
  7. Were there any other Kentucky high school players who went on to be in the NBA Slam Dunk competition?
  8. I agree that we often raise 'quitters'. But what about the kids who have played for 10 different coaches without quitting but then quit while playing for one certain coach? There truly are bad coaches, more bad ones than good ones in fact. And sometimes there are really terrible coaches. Point being, sometimes it aint the kid at all.
  9. Did Travis Smith play for Breathitt last night?
  10. So was the intentional foul against Lee called intentionally or not? Personally, I think it was intentionally called, ie, the ref intended to call it a flagrant foul. Either way, it was indeed a very bad call.
  11. Lee had the ball, one pt down, 20 seconds to go. Momentum to Lee Co, Charles on fire. Lee was executing a set play; Pelfrey at the top of the key was chopped across the forearm resulting in dropping the ball. I really don't think that Hazard could have stopped Charles if he had the ball on the last play. But again, Hazard won the game and good luck to them!
  12. Lee led at the half, down by 11 by the end of the third, pulled to within 1, got hacked resulting in a turnover. Aaron Charles led all scorers with 29.
  13. Euton knocked down a bunch of treys, some from around 30' out. The kid really has a nice stroke. Lee fought to within 5 late in the third and missed a trey to pull within 2, but the 4th belonged to Euton. 6'6" Pelfrey for Lee gave Euton fits inside, but otherwise Lee just couldn't hit their shots.
  14. Lee had a critical starter ejected in that game too. Lee didn't play particularily well in that game, missing lots of easy lay ins. Really a matter of who is hitting and who is not tomorrow night in Stanton. I don't expect the coaches to let emotions to get out of hand like in Beattyville earlier. I'll take Lee by 8 in this one.
  15. Those are childish comments. 26-2 disparity ain't a record, but if the shoe fits, you know what they say.
  16. I doubt that any team has won 100% of their home games or tournaments, so that could not be a solitary factor. I just tossed those records from KHSAA out for people to view. And the more I think about it, every single record in the KHSAA files was submitted by some official or fan from each county. And if Powell Co sent in their records, then I am sure that they sent in all of their records for each stat. And still, they only make the 'record book' in the 'free throw' statistics. I can't help but smell something fishy. What is done is done. For the future though, I hope that things statewide are more balanced.
  17. Can you think of a better way to investigate the myth of the 'homer'? Name one better example than good old Powell County. Seriously. And nope, I have no sour grapes. Just find it curious that this has went on so long without anyone pointing it out. After all, it is kids who are being cheated.
  18. That win vs Louisville Shawnee is a very important game to Powell Co's opponents. Truly a red letter date in the history of Powell Co. And I doubt that Shawnee needed much help the following year 'on the road'. My whole point is that just maybe Powell Co can be proven to be the most 'home-biased' court in all of KY basketball history....and still. If such a thing were to ever be investigated, this is where it would start.... And I do understand that it isn't the kids pulling this stuff.
  19. Hardly worth watching. UL won pretty easily at Rupp. The announcers were saying that UK has an RPI rating of .... 241(240 teams are better). EKU and WKY are now ranked ahead of UK. I hope BG is rentin' down in the bluegrass 'cause I can't see the Big Blue machine keeping him.
  20. Just talked to a friend over at Estill Co and two of the three games are over. Game 1 - Powell Co defeated Madison Southern Game 2 - Wolfe Co defeated Owsley Co Game 3 - Jackson City vs Estill Co....in progress. Details anyone?
  21. gilligan, you may be correct that a Powell Co fan sent the 'facts' in to KHSAA, but I still find it incredible that Powell Co shot 89 free throws in one game. Do you really think this is NOT a record? I only brought up those old records because I personally witnessed the 14th Regional Tournament at Powell at few years ago and saw the most lopsided calling I've EVER saw anywhere (and I've saw plenty of bad ones). It seems that Powell has a documented history of such things.
