  1. Charles and Wise hit the treys. The Wolves left T. Campbell wide open right under the basket all night long. Drake penetrated straight down the lane several times. It kind of looked like Wolfe only had 4 players on D. Charles sat out half the game due to a couple of cheap offensive fouls, but still finished with 10 pts (4 for 4 shooting), 5 boards, 5 assists and a couple of steals. Wolfe seemed to focus all of the D in the backcourt. One long pass upcourt resulted in a 3 on 2 situation consistently. I personally think that it will be difficult for the Wolves to overcome Lee's size in the paint. It spreads their defense a little thin, especially if they're focusing on Charles on the perimeter. Games like this help the young Bobcats. See ya in Feb.
  2. Lee Co's Tyler Campbell scored 20 as he found gaps in the pesky Wolfe Co defense after the first quarter of play. 6'6" Pelfrey intimidated the much shorter Wolves and Gus Wise chipped in 18 off the bench. Charles sat most of the game in foul trouble but hit all 4 of his shots from the field for 10 pts. WOLFE CO. — Campbell 11, Terrill 2, Lutes 5, Wilson 13, Hayes 14, Miller 2, Graham 4. LEE CO. — Drake 10, Charles 10, Campbell 20, Pelfry 8, Wise 18.
  3. Game was rescheduled for tonight (Fri, Jan 4).
  4. I felt the same way. I believe the 14th Region is at Powell again this year. I know that people yell 'homer' pretty often, but there is some substance to back up the Powell County bias. I fully expect it to continue this year. Against Pulaski Co it was a 30 point difference being 'home'. Give any team just 20 points and it can be hard to beat 'em.
  5. I don't know, do you? I've never witnessed a debacle like the Powell/Breathitt game @ the 14th Regional in Powell Co 3 or 4 years ago. I was attending basically as a neutral spectator but cheered for the 'underdog' Breathitt Co team when it became so blatantly obvious that the home team was going to win this game. Winning call, btw, was a whistle blown 2 or 3 seconds AFTER the last horn sounded resulting in a foul on Breathitt and Powell Co awarded 2 free throws to win the game. Breathitt led by about 20 points earlier in the game. When I saw that the KHSAA actually documents games where 50+ freethrows are attempted (aka 'awarded), and that Powell Co is in 10 of the top 20 games in KY basketball history.....50% OF THE 'MOST FREETHROWS' ATTEMPTED INVOLVED POWELL COUNTY!!! And if there were another tier involving 40+ freethrow games, Powell would still be in there. 30+.....yep. I'm convinced that they would have MORE 30+ freethrow games on their home floor than any other team in the state. In fact, maybe someone saw that you make the record book if you shoot more than 50 and now it is held to under 50. Someone should investigate it, but the KHSAA is swamped with other things. Only those dusty old record books document it for us. No one will document the 'less than record' status.
  6. Powell won the 14th Regional Tourney about 3 years ago on their home court. They defeated Breathitt County in an early round by shooting about 47 freethrows (vs Breathitt shooting about 15). Eventually defeated every other team in the tourney in a similar way.
  7. Powell Co holds multiple state records for the number of free throws shot at home. According to the KHSAA record book: Most Free Throw Attempts - Game (Min. 50) # School vs. Opponent, Year/Date (A/M) 89 Powell Co. vs. Shawnee, 1972 (70/89) 63 Cordia vs. Powell Co., 11-21-89 61 Dayton vs. St. Henry, 1991 (45/61) 59 Bell Co.vs. Evarts, 3-6-01 (45/59) 57 Calloway Co. vs. Lone Oak, 2001 (46/57) 55 Pikeville vs. Phelps, 1956 (41/55) 55 Powell Co. vs. Wolfe Co., 1966 (44/55) 55 Powell Co. vs. Madison Central, 1980 54 Webster Co. vs. Providence, 1965 54 Powell Co. vs. Lexington Catholic, 1971 (47/54) 54 Webster Co. vs. Graham, 1983 52 Henderson Co. vs. Hopkinsville, 1-21-00 51 West Carter vs. Menifee Co., 11-26-94 51 Cordia vs. Powell Co., 11-27-90 51 Powell Co. vs. Hazel Green, 1971 51 Powell Co. vs. Model, 1967 (38/51) 50 Powell Co. vs. Madison, 1977 50 Powell Co. vs. Hazard, 1978 (N/A) 50 Powell Co. vs. Hazel Green, 1965 (37/50) It seems very fishy to me and I wouldn't blame any team for refusing to play there.
  8. I've heard that J. Pierson quit this team a week or so ago. Did he play vs. Wolfe Co?
  9. I think I remember rumors of that pole vault.....or maybe it was someone else that won the highjump at 3'. Anyway, sorry about not posting the homecoming. It was a fun evening.
  10. Lee overcomes a pesky Menifee team @ Lee. Homecoming night too. Lee's record now 4/3.
  11. Game starts in a couple of hours. Lee by 11 to bring their record to 4/3 and 4 straight wins.
  12. Lee lost every starter from last season, that is the only point I was making. Charles and Drake started a couple of games last season due to injuries etc....no one else. Owsley returned some, if not most, of their team from last year (-Congletons). Reed and Pierson started some games but maybe they quit the team. The only reason I even brought it up is due to the Owls big upset over Lee in the District Tourney last season. I do think that was a highlight game for the Owls last season... Again, I wish Coach Noble the best as he begins his career at OCHS. He and his family are good people.
  13. Lee seems to be improving with every game. Lost their first 3 games, now even their record with wins in their last 3 games. Charles held to 11 (7 assists/5 blocks/ 4 rebounds) but the Owls left holes in the paint, often leaving Pelfrey wide open underneath. Taublee proves that he is a factor, and maybe a deciding one. The Bobcats played solid team ball and pull off a good win in spite of the absence of Campbell. Soph. Gus Wise stepped up with 4 treys. Drake ran the point solidly too. I wouldn't call it redemption from last seasons' district tourney loss to the Owls, but it ain't shabby either. The Owls returned most of their team from last year (-Congleton) while Lee lost every starter from last year. The Owls are senior laden this year (8 or 9 seniors) so will probably improve as the season progresses. I wish Coach Noble good luck in his next games....I'm sure that he'll chalk up some "W"'s shortly as the Owls adjust to his style of play.
  14. The only people who would dispute that would be JBS coaches....the Stepp clan. See if you ever read about Cox in the Lexington Herald. It's always a Stepp.
  15. JBStepp, the only mtn school I can't root for. They do have a good team though, and if the Knights think their name will win it over the mtn boys then they'll be crying all the way back to Lexington. I think Lex Cath might win but that it will take till half time for them to figure out that it'll be a battle. Lex Cath by 7
  16. If it becomes a 'shootout' then JC has a chance, but if Breathitt can get the ball down the floor and keep their turnovers down, they should win pretty easily. Davidson will always do his part, but Breathitt's experience and size in the post may be too much. Breathitt by 8
  17. RE: Lee/Estill game Lee led at the end of the first qtr. Estill 32/30 at the half. Estill outscored Lee 23-11 in the third Lee outscored Estill by 10 in the fourth but still fell short by 4 pts Don't see how it was in any way a blowout. Estill hit several treys in the third, and if Lee had hit one more in the fourth it would have been anybody's game. (Lee fouled Estill in the last minute which added some freethrows). Again, how a blow out? Estill won 2 qtrs, Lee won 2 qtrs. Estill won the game by 4 basically due to a red hot Napier. They deserved the win, and got it. But not a blow out. And all this took place on Estill's home floor.
  18. And Lee also beat Powell by 3. And Estill just lost to PCC. Kinda like the Cantrall or Lit ratings....no rhyme nor reason. Actually, all some people do are go to the khsaa scoreboard for the region and list them more or less by w/l regardless of who beat who or the level of competition.
  19. Tough break but thank goodness it was not worse. He'll be in our prayers.
  20. Always a heated rivalry. Should be a good game, I think Lee by 8.
  21. He was knocked down on previous inbound attempt...no foul called (and not a lot of contact but still a marginal foul that would have put him on the ft line with no time remaining). Charles inbounded the ball, jumped inbounds and had it passed back to him. Shot up, Game over.
  22. Pretty good form for a two handed shotput.
  23. What a joke. Lee's already beaten Jackson City and Powell,,,lost by 4 to Estill. You sound like a whining Powell Co fan to me lol.
  24. Lee's next game is at Owsley on Friday night and Powell's next game is vs Estill (at Powell) on Saturday night. Both Lee and Powell lost 8 or more seniors from last years squad, so I'm pretty sure that these two players will be sorely missed in these critical games.
