Does anyone have stats for Kendall Noble (Breathitt)? Just wondering how many blocks per game she is averaging. -
Can girls block shots?
ARC replied to 32minutesofpressure's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
My .02.... if a player 'slaps down' in close proximity to the offensive player, then fouls are usually called. Boys or Girls. Lots of times the 'swat' will carry the defender into the shooter. I always liked to swat when I played, but found out the hard way that the refs don't. It sure is impressive when you swat one up into the bleachers though lol. Swatting to block shots and slapping as the dribbler goes around you usually result in a whistle. -
Same kid scored 22 other points and Powell had to know where the ball was going on that last shot. The same kid barely missed the same shot at the end of the first half. How many did Kinser end up with? Lee lost a critical rebounder (Tyler Campbell) when Kinser was ejected. Lee was ahead by 3 or more at the time of the ejections and ended up winning by that many. Hard fought game by both teams in a highly charged atmosphere.

Aaron Charles hit a three from just inside half court line with no time remaining to win the game. Charles ended the game with 25. This was a slug-fest! 2 ejections (one from each team) in the third qtr. Multiple foul-outs on each side and most players playing with 4 fouls for most of the fourth quarter. Powell hit a three with about 12 seconds left to tie the game. Charles was knocked to the floor after a time-out but Lee retained possession. Thrown back in to Charles and it sailed home. A closer game than I expected...whew...

Powell Co @ Lee Co - Dec. 11 predictions??
ARC replied to ARC's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Powell bet SF by 25 on a neutral floor Dec 8 JC beat SF by 23 at SF on Nov 27 Lee beat JC by 19 at Lee on Dec 7. Powell is 3/0, Lee is 1/3 but the strength of their opponents has been different. If Powell has some inside strength then it has been added since I saw them play against Magoffin Co on Dec 1. -
Powell Co @ Lee Co - Dec. 11 predictions??

I've watched Powell once this year. They are guard oriented, but don't look as strong or experienced as Estill. Kinser is their lone returning starter (I think) and leads them in scoring from the point or 2G position. Big Romans is gone and his absence is very noticable. -
Estill County @ Owsley Predictions
ARC replied to TheFrontRowFan's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
What about 6 threes? 5? Can they win with only 4 threes? Don't get me wrong, I think that Estill will have to play a solid game AND hit about 8 threes to beat the Owls at Booneville. Macintosh will be hard for the Engineers to handle in the paint. -
Estill County @ Owsley Predictions
ARC replied to TheFrontRowFan's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
If Estill hits more than 8 threes, then Estill wins. If Estill hits less than 8 threes, then Owsley wins. The Owls have a size advantage in the paint. I think that Owsley may win by a basket or two in Booneville. -
Powell Co @ Lee Co - Dec. 11 predictions??

I agree with you. Jackson City came into Beattyville 3/0 against 0/3 Lee. Lee may not have looked good in the Estill game, but were still within one point near the end and only lost by 4. Lee looked better against JC, but still missed a bunch of easy ones in the paint and still need to improve in a lot of areas. -

I've saw them both play, can't see how Powell can match up inside or out. Lee's loss to Buckhorn at Buckhorn's opener and to an athletic Woodford Co team, those were tough games. Estill has also proven to be a decent team and Lee was within a point in the last minute or so at Estill. In other words, Lee's 3 losses weren't necessarily bad ones for such a young team. Yep, I'm optomistic about this team! -
Lee is 1/3, Powell is 2/0. The game is at Lee. I think Lee will win by 15.

Thanks Lightning, I'll post it

I know that Lee won by double digits but don't remember the exact score. Anyone have it? Pelfrey had 27 for the Bobcats, Charles 14. The whole team played solid. Davidson had 20+ for the Tigers. Lee had the lead from start to finish. Congrats to Coach Wright!

Actually Lee lost all 5 starters and 3 other seniors. Charles and Drake came off the bench.

I'm not taking anything away from Estill either. These two teams are ranked 8th and 9th in the region. Lee's total varsity experience returning from last season is two players with about 3 varsity starts between them. This is a very inexperienced team with miles of room to improve.
-
Lee led by several at the end of the first qtr. Estill led by two at half time. Estill outscored Lee 24 -11 in the third qtr due to several made threes, ending the third qtr with Estill about 15 up. Lee fought back in the fourth to within one point in the final two minutes but missed their last couple of shots and had to foul. Lee outscored Estill in the first and fourth, Estill won the second and third with the third being decisive. The free throw differential was due to Estill's reliance on outside shooting and little penetration. Estill made about 10 threes, Napier must have been about 6 for 10. IMO Lee has the most room for improvement, as they return zero starters from last season. Estill has two or three starters back from last season. Estill seems to be all guard oriented. It was a good game, not a blow out.

Game was at Estill

Engineers' Josh Napier hit 5 or 6 threes. Aaron Charles led the Bobcats with 32 points.

Jackson City 60 Owsley County 57
ARC replied to The Professor's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
The game was at Jackson. I actually didn't see the event that led to the technical. OC player drove down the center of the lane and just inside the ft line collided with a JC player. This resulted in a charging foul on OC, which led to the technical. I didn't see the basketball go flying or anything like that. I did think that there were a few charges called on OC that were questionable, but that's just from where I sat. -

I was there. In the first half, JC took only outside shots and shot poorly. Owsley hardly took any outside shots, but instead penetrated to the basket. Second half JC played much better interior defense and so the Owls began to shoot more outside and were not as effective. OC was just not able to get their inside game going again. JC began driving to the basket and getting fouled. Although JC didn't shoot very well from the line, they did rebound several key missed free throws. I do think that the OC technical tipped the scales pretty solidly toward JC. The Owls point guard fouled out at the same time as the technical. JC shot two free throws (hit both) and got the ball. Both teams did play with heart and wanted the win. The gym was packed. -
It is hard to say how Lee Co's lack of experience could play out tonight. Over the summer this same team played JBS two times, losing once by a shot at the buzzer and the other by only a very few points. This team also was leading Scott County at half time (but ended up losing by about 18) on Scott's home floor in a summer scrimmage. Inexperience is unpredictable. Good luck to both teams.

Yep, score reset after 20 minutes. Neither personal nor team fouls were counted....no bonus free throws etc... Some of the scrimmages count fouls, others don't. I suppose that it is up to the coaches. Not counting the fouls can cause a 'tilt'.
