  1. I remember Coach Wilson from years ago, and besides doing a great job coaching he is also a class act. Owsley County made a good selection in Noble and I'm sure that he will do a great job getting his new team ready and able.
  2. Panarama at Owsley... Lee over Riverside by 40+ Estill over Redbird by a few Whitley over Owsley by about 10
  3. 11-17 Scrimmage @ Owsley /// Lee, Owsley, Riverside, Whitley Co 11-21 Scrimmage @ Wolfe /// Lee, Wolfe, ?,?
  4. Does anyone know the absolute list of all-stars? Were there only 10 on each team? Conflicts with baseball scheduling may have resulted in some vote-shifting etc...
  5. 56th District All-Tournament Team Lee County - Aaron Charles and Kenny Brandenburg Estill County - Tristen Cackling and Blake Christopher Owsley County - Trey Congleton, Jeremy Congleton and Adam McIntosh Powell County - Ryan Romans, Daniel Kinser and Danny Dennis Defensive Award - Trey Congleton from Owsley County MVP - Daniel Kinser from Powell County
  6. I agree! PCC died by the 3. 5-28 on threes (18%) --- Hazard also shoots quite a few threes....if they hit only 18% then the 'Horn should roll.
  7. Lee Co record @ home this season : 8W/1L (88% wins) Lee Co record @ away this season : 6W/10L (36% wins) Only loss @ home was to Henry Clay by 3 pts. Avg ppg @ home : 67 Avg ppg @ away : 55 (Avg ppg; away losses = 50 ppg) (Avg ppg; away wins = 63 ppg) In general, Lee Co lost if they scored under 60 pts. Sometimes they just couldn't get a shot to fall on the road. But in the Owsley game the Owls just outplayed the Bobcats. Owsley played a very aggressive zone defense and Lee had several turnovers. Lee also missed quite a few free throws. I really think that Lee went into this game thinking that they couldn't lose after beating Owsley by 39 pts and 33 pts earlier in the season. This game was identical to Lee's away loss to Wolfe Co earlier in the year. They beat Wolfe by 30 at home and lost by 1 at Wolfe. When Lee played good, they sometimes played real good. When they played bad, they sometimes played real bad. Lee loses 7 seniors, 5 of which were starters.
  8. Lee led by 4 with just over a minute to go. A critical turnover and foul left Owsley with a one point lead. Lee hit one ft and deliberately missed the next and got one shot to win at the buzzer right under the basket, but it missed. 7 Seniors graduate from Lee. The Owls played good D most of the game and are to be congratulated. As I said earlier, they are not as weak as most people assume.
  9. Jackson graduated Kyle Howard and Jordan Fugate, which accounted for 50%+ of their offense. Breathitt lacked confidence last year, but it would have been a good game between the two- Jackson would probably have won, but these kids have played against each other in leagues etc. for years and so who knows? Aslo Moore was a pretty big factor last year in several games.
  10. Owsley is not as weak as some think but Lee should prevail by at least 15 in this game. I anticipate at least two 14th Region upsets in the first round of the districts. It could be just about any team that gets eliminated.
  11. The game was at Breathitt..... Lee County missed at least 10 high percentage shots in the paint, Breathitt made several treys including a couple of big ones by sr. Brandon Hays. The game was close until midway thru the 4th when Lee's shots just wouldn't fall. The JV game was a good one with Lee's Aaron Charles hitting a 3 pointer at the buzzer to win 43-40.
  12. Lee Co played within 5 points late in the 3rd quarter, let the lead slip to 10 or so and then MC connected on about 6 threes. Brandenburg stayed in foul trouble and didn't play much more than half the game. WC's guards were athletic and 6'4" to 6'6". The physical play wore Lee down by the 4th.
  13. Lee led by one at the end of the first quarter, down around 10 at half, then MC's threes started falling.
  14. Berryman had a very off night, Christopher was slowed by early fouls, particularily charges that hindered later attempts to penetrate. The point guard played hard in spite of missing some easy shots early. Estill shot a very low percentage from the field. Without Berryman and Christopher scoring 35+ points combined they wont win many. Powell plays physical. Romans stats probably don't show his impact on this team. He just wears opponents down.
  15. Lee played a good second half as Coach Wright adjusted his team's interior play. He is also utilizing his bench well and sophomore Cory Dunaway contributed well in this game. Caleb Fetters dominated at both ends and may be the most under-rated player in the 14th. The Owls are young and didn't handle traps and pressing very well. They played a decent zone but when Lee hit a few outside shots and pounded the offensive glass the game was finished.
  16. Lee shot about 25% for the game, didn't rebound well, didn't penetrate, didn't play very good defense and still only lost by 8 to a deep and strong Powell team (at Powell) that many predicted to be in the top 4 preseason. Romans is a force inside. Powell's defense didn't cause Lee to miss most of their shots.....they were just stone cold and missed from all over the floor. Break down bigcat44's numbers above and after subtracting the 'in the paint shots', they probably shot 15% from outside the lane. No excuses, they just couldn't hit their wide open shots.
  17. Sophomore Aaron Charles is the "6th man" at Lee and he did move from Jackson City to Lee Co after his 7th grade year. JC's Kilburn is his cousin and he and Davidson were team mates in middle school.
  18. It doesn't help a kid to pad his stats, and it also takes away from his team mates. A bad pass can count as a turnover for either player, and it is all very subjective. Same thing with rebounds, steals and assists. Take 'em all with a grain of salt. Points scored is usually pretty close, the rest is probably within 50%.
  19. I've watched both teams play and Lee's press is at least as effective as JC's. JC's Davidson is a great hard-working kid who puts everything he has into every game. If he gets into early foul trouble or if Lee keeps him out of the paint then JC is in trouble. Lee's twins should be huge factors in this game. They are 6'2", very strong and can shoot the lights out on any given night. The Tigers may have problems keeping all of the Bobcats covered.
  20. Lee had Estill on their heels a few times but couldn't deliver the KO until late in the 4th. Lee played with injuries and sickness and toughed it out. Berryman must have hit 8 threes' from way downtown with a hand in his face. Christopher played well also. Lee's JV squad remains undefeated. They won tonight with a buzzer shot. The JV squad hasn't played center Jared Pelfrey all season due to an injury. Congratulations to Coach Wright!
  21. I agree with you. And I thought that Estill could have beat any team in the 14th last season 'on a given night'. I was cheering them on in every game except when they played Lee . The Engineers caught some bad breaks. Lee Co has had seasons like that too.....where it just seemed that a little more 'something' was needed to push them over the top.
  22. Estill didn't get much recognition in the 14th last year, but were only 8 -7 against 14th Region teams. I really thought that Estill would fare well last year in the 14th, but something was apparently missing. Dixon was one of the top players in the 14th.
  23. Lee isn't hitting on all cylinders right now, but they've still outplayed a decent Jackson County and a scrappy Cordia team. Letcher County Central....last year Lee played them in their 'first game in history' game and this year in their 'first game in history at their new gym' game. Lee lost both. I think that LCC's game vs Lee last year was their strongest of the season. Estill misses Dixon more than Lee misses Rich. Lee so far hasn't depended on the three point shot this season, but Estill may. I think Coach Wright has his boys stronger, tougher and more experienced than last year. I'm predicting a 20 point Lee win.
  24. Lincoln won by 3 or so. PCC missed a bunch of free throws....I'm guessing that they missed at least 15. Bailey missed several toward the end, and also missed a three pt attempt in the last few seconds. PCC lead most of the game by a few points. Lincoln is a quick scrappy team with some good shooters.
