Lone Oak / Lexington Catholic predictions
swamp thang replied to flashdaddy's topic in KY Football (High School)
I'll be there rooting for my Knights this Friday. Long drive so Ms. Swampthang and our friends are making an overnight roadtrip out of it. Any suggestions about non-game related activities we might enjoy -
Palin: The Gift That Keeps Giving
swamp thang replied to Clyde's topic in Kentucky / National Politics
This I believe from the whole Sarah Palin phenomenon....every time there are negative criticisms of her personally, rather than politically, more and more ordinary people rush to her defense. The constant barbs of her intelligence or lack thereof only strengthens her role as the "everyman" and increases her popularity. And, I believe, more elections are won on personality than policy. If Obama can win on a single issue of "change" which I think he did, the Palin can win on the same catchphrase "change' next time. -
The acting profession and homosexuality
swamp thang replied to Jim Schue's topic in Kentucky / National Politics
Another point to ponder on this matter: In general actors are more confident and open than other professions considering that they're capable of performing in front of audiences whereas most people would cringe when confronted with having to speak before a large crowd. So, just perhaps, they feel more confident to live "who they are" more than the average Joe -
Health Reform and the Polls
swamp thang replied to Run To State's topic in Kentucky / National Politics
I think that, in most cases, it's a good thing that all procedures/tests/drugs are not approved carte blanche. It seem like every week or so there's an article about some physicians? scamming the MedicareMedicaid system. The latest that I read was the Houston clinic that was dispensing "arthritis kits" which contained some cheap orthotics, over-the-counter medications and a heating pad. The clinic was billing and collecting from medicare about $4000. per kit. Maybe this wouldn't have happened if the "arthritis kit" had to be pre-approved. As an aside: maybe the gov should have to pre-approve the "clunkers for cash" program as well -
Private-school eligibility rules challenged

Another solution would be just to have open enrollment and let parents send their children to any school that they choose for any reason that they like. -
Sarah Palin to Resign as Governor of Alaska
swamp thang replied to Habib's topic in Kentucky / National Politics
Sorry, Clyde. Just trying to interject a little sarcasm. Don't guess I'm very good at it. -
Sarah Palin to Resign as Governor of Alaska
swamp thang replied to Habib's topic in Kentucky / National Politics
In a way, it's refreshing to hear a politician say that they're stepping down because they don't feels they can give their constituents the representation that they deserve. I wish many of those in Congress would take the bold step and follow her example. -
Sarah Palin to Resign as Governor of Alaska
swamp thang replied to Habib's topic in Kentucky / National Politics
I think I'll accept her at her word. I believe she was and is way over her head in the national political arena. I also believe that she has strong family values and puts her family above everything else. Therefore, it's not hard for me to believe that she feels that by placing herself under this national spotlight, she has placed her children, friends and the people of Alaska in a position to be continually be rediculed and to become punchlines. So, basically, I think she may just be saying "leave me alone and let me lead a normal life for a while" -

Great pitcher's duel. LexCath seems to be on a mission. Once again, tradition always gives a team a fighting chance -
Danville vs Lexinton Catholic Predictions
swamp thang replied to ADopted ADmiral's topic in KY Baseball (High School)
I think the Knights win in three. Either way, great season LexCath. Many thought this would be a rebuilding year but tradition never dies. -
The thing that I noticed was that the players never seemed to come to the defense of the embattled coach. A similar comparison can be made to Rich Brooks. As I recall, his players always stepped up to rally around him whenever he was being criticized. I never saw this from the basketball players. I only recall them saying things like, "there's nothing we can do about how the fanbase is talking". There were opportunities where they could have come to his defense, but I never saw it happen.

I equate UK basketball fans with Alabama football fans. Greatest fans in the world when the team is winning, most impatient and critical fans when the team is losing. In other words, I don't have a whole lot of respect for either fan base. Just my opinion.

How about starting the tourney on Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Semis on Friday evening and finals on Sunday evening?

Congratulations for a great game. Good luck to the Knights Friday night -
I agree that quality teams are left at home and mis-spoke in stating otherwise, however, having said that, any way other than our current system would be subjective and would always be open to argument. As an example, many people believe that Scott County has a quality team and with another opportunity might beat Lexington Catholic but it isn't fair to randomly give them a second opportunity. I would go so far as to suggest that maybe the district runner-up doesn't deserve another chance in regionals

I think that Dykes comes up with a catch-phrase or word that he thinks is clever. He then seeks out some honest, objective, unbiased evaluation from someone like maybe his wife or kids and having been convinced the phrase is indeed as clever as he originally thought, he decides he should grace his listening audience by bombarding them for the next 2 hours.

If they were truly a quality team, they'd be playing in Rupp this week. I'm with "Thatswhatshesaid". Post the 8 quality teams that you think should be added and let the BGP fans of those teams not included let you know how they feel about this plan.

Who will be attending the Sweet Sixteen this week?
swamp thang replied to LionFan's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I'll be there from Thursday afternoon on, rooting for the Knights of LexCath. If they get eliminated, I'll be there just as a fan of the best high school basketball in America. Good luck to all teams -
Which School Will Bring the Biggest Fan Base?
swamp thang replied to King James's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Mason County always shows up big time and would expect nothing less this time around. I don't really how to measure this objectively, anyway -

Like I've said in the past, Billy Hicks is very gracious as a coach, as long as he's winning. When he beat LexCath earlier in te year, he had nothing but high praise for the Knights. By the way, has Scott County and Lexington Catholic ever played a game in which Hicks has not gotten a technical foul?
