  1. I don't count scrimmages..they're not played anythink like a real game type situation and alot of younger kids get to play so coaches can see what they can do....Do you think if the Rockets tried to schedule a Hoptown, Tilghman, Oboro Catholic or Trigg that these teams would play them?? I doubt they would, so, in Crittendens defense, I'm not sure who would be a real good candidate to fill the slot, do you?
  2. Actually, i have alot of respect for there program and recent success..Hey, I'm a Western Ky fan..I'd like to see 'em win it when they get there, but, at the same time, I'm gonna root against 'em if there playing a district 1 team.. Call me a homer, I guess :sssh: I'll be the 1st to admit that OCs offense is about as good as anyones in Rgn 1. The problem I've had in the past, is there defense stopping other teams. If they ever put the 2 together on 1 team, look out :thumb:
  3. Personally, I think Crittenden's got a pretty solid program and in the last few years probably deserved a little more state wide recognition, but, at the same time, when people see the schedule, they're hesitant to give em that credit..I can't really blame them, I suppose, especially when in most years, they get to Mayfield and get beat.. I, too, understand the neighboring Co rival games with Caldwell, Union and Webster and in some years, any of the 3 are pretty good, but, to me a Trigg, Hopkins Cen., Ft Campbell or maybe even an Indiana 1a-2a team like S.Spencer or Mater Dei would really help them, win or lose... My question would be, if crittenden did try and up the competition level, who would actually schedule them, as alot of teams are pretty locked in on there schedules too.
  4. Lex Catholic Bell Co. Russell Trigg Co. Christian Co. Dunbar LCA Ashland Somerset Newport TB : 49
  5. How does this Crittenden Co team compare to some other past teams?? Is this one of there stronger groups, somewhere in the middle or weaker than most? I ask this because it seems every year they come in with a 10-0, 9-1, 8-2 type record and its hard to guage them sometimes because of the competition they've played...
  6. Noone ever claimed Trigg or Ft campbell as the standard setter for all of rgn 1 either...
  7. Wouldn't you think a state championship somewhere, anywhere along the way would be a better standard for all of Rgn 1...About the only consistent state contender year in and year out in Region 1 is Mayfield, bar none and not even close and it's programs been doing it alot longer than the last 3-4 years..Hopkinsvilles been good, as well, but, 0 state championships, like OC just don't set well for a region standard setter, so to speak...
  8. Bardstown vs LCA - Bardstown wins 36-26 Ft Campbell vs Leslie Co. - Ft Campbell wins 35-13 B.Green vs Lex Catholic - B.Green wins 24-21 Male vs Trinity - Male wins 42-14
  9. I think LCA has been preparing for this game all year..They knew there district was weak, so they beefed up there schedule with Lex Cath, Desales, Corbin and CAL..yes, they were blown out by Lex Cath, but, so would Beechwood if they played them, imo. The Desales win was impressive and they dominated CAL right after Lville HCross barely escaped CAL a week before.. IMO, they've got equal talent, but, lack the tradition and big game experience, which may or may not be a factor, but, at least has homefield advantage and have seen teams of equal or greater talent throughout the year, so I don't think they'll be intimidated.. I've been picking LCA to make it to the Carpet for most of the season, so, i'm going to stick with 'em, right or wrong.....LCA 27 Beechwood 21
  10. Turnovers killed Marshall in the Apollo game...All year, they avoided turnovers and it hurt em in this one...They didn't exactly get pounded, they were ahead 20-14 midway thru the 3rd qtr when the walls caved in...As far as CC is concerned, its that jekyl and hyde thing with them..They looked great against Henry Clay, Hopkinsville and Henderson and then lousy against Marshall and Graves...WCentral is a more talented team than Marshall, but, they aren't so much better that you can expect a blowout...
  11. On point 1, it doesn't take a dominating line when you pass the ball 25-35 times a game and 400 yds a game is good, but, alot of that comes via big plays and not lining down and dominating in the trenches..My reference to struggling was Owensboro Sr and only 7 pts, however, wasnt aware of the 9 turnovers, but, also, Apollo wasn't exactly dominated.. On point 2, I disagree, with exception to OC, there isn't anyone else very good, in District 1, Caldwell, Heath,Lone Oak and Webster offer more competition than a Monroe or Glasgow does... On point 3, South Spencer isn't always a state contender..They've had better years, yes, but, this year, got put out in 2nd round of playoffs by +20 pts, finished 8-4 and never made a top 10 appearance in 2a, so, a 28-20 win, although not bad, also, isn't that good... On point 4, by this time of the season, everyone has 11 games under there belt and for the most part, the starters on all these teams got significant playing time last year and possibly the year before, so, a couple or 3 extra games shouldn't really matter..
  12. The way Apollo played against Marshall Co gives them a chance, at least..they've not been very consistent all year though..Same can be said for CC, but, they do have some very good athletes and should squeeze this one out...CC 38 Apollo 28
  13. FSimpson will not play as bad as they did against the Purples, but, will still be outmanned in the longrun...I like hoptown 28-13
  14. This won't be as big a blowout as most think...Caldwell has steadily improved thruout the season and they've been playing for the last 3-4 weeks of playoff atmosphere ball, just to get in the playoffs and that should help them be prepared..Ft campbells been on easy street since the early season game with trigg and this could hurt them..I like Ft Campbell to win, but, not a blowout, i'll say 28-14
  15. I can't really put alot of stock in OCs dominating offensive line..They struggled in nonconference games and the district 2 2a is very weak this year..I think Trigg or FT Campbell would have easily dominated those opponents in the trenches, as well..Its been awhile since OCatholics been challenged and this could hurt them in this game..
  16. Triggs passing game isn't too shabby either and i feel there a little stronger defensively that Oboro Cath while OC is prob. a little better offensively..They say defense win championships, so, I'm going to go with Trigg in a slight upset..27-21
  17. Rocket, i agree..i don't think they will, but, they have folded there tents in past games with Mayfield...Maybe they didn't, but, it sure looked that way. I don't think it was just that Mayfield was that much better..
  18. I'm looking forward to this game...I'll give Crittenden its due, they're playing very well and have a good enough offensive team and combination of skill players to give Mayfield some trouble. I like the way Mayfields playing right now..They are very balanced offensively and you really can't key on any particular player, because they can all hurt you..QB Shelton can hurt you thru the air but more with his running ability. He's deceptively quick and can pick up big chunks at a time..Rust is the workhorse back, who's going to give you 110% every play, Hatchell gives you the power back for short yardage situations and has great hands as a receiver out of the backfield, Dumas gives you the breakaway capability with his speed and they also have a couple of nice route receivers..i think the game will come down to whoever wins the battle in the trenches and can contain the others offense..I think it'll be a fairly high scoring game..i'm picking Mayfield 42 Crittenden Co. 21
  19. Sorry. Birdsfan, but, should Franklin Co win fri night, thats all it will be..I don't think too many people outside NKY would be in shock should it occur..Highlands has a good ball club, no doubt, but, they're very beatable and not beyong getting mildly upset
  20. I like Lex Cath by 2 or more tds in this one..Lets say 35-17
  21. I was going to pick LC, but, now that they're on the front page here, they're jinxed for sure...Paintsville 27 Lynn Camp 21
  22. I think alot of people have been looking forward to this game..OC comes in at an impressive 10-1 with its only loss at the hands of crosstown rival 4a Owensboro Sr, while TC comes in at 9-2 with its only 2 blemishes to 2 #1 ranked teams, BGreen and Ft Campbell and really the only serious challenge to the Falcons all year..OC was ranked #2 in the final BGP 2a poll while TC ended at #5 and both teams were impressive in there round 1 games..Should be one heck of a game...
  23. Probably not, but, truth is, Franklin Co. is a very solid team, playing very well right now and, imo, Highlands isn't the juggernaut it's been in yrs past and it wouldn't be a huge upset if FC took it..
