  1. The ending: After Calhoun celebrates the run back, the Cardinals, now desperate, go on the attack, down by a score with little time to go, Shelton connects on a long pass to get them out of a hole, on 1st and 10 at about midfield, the Tigers find thenselves back on the heals, Rust finds a hole for another 12 yards, then Hatchell 9 more, is it in the Cards? The clocks running down, so Shelton spikes it down, on 2nd and 10 he finds Freddie Brown, who hauls in it in and gets out of bounds. as the fans hearts are beginning to pound, So much at stake here in the substate, a trip to papa johns sure would be great, its 1st and goal at the Tiger 4. but, only 1:00 remains for a season no more, One team will be happy, another'll be sad, but what a great game War memorial just had, After 2 stops the balls on the 2, 20 seconds left, what will Coach do, he gives it Rust, whos stopped just shy, so they use the final timeout, before the last try, on 4th and 1 and everyone screaming, Hatchell goes off right side and now Joe's a beaming, with the cards down 1, they decide to go for 2, a very gutsy call, and everyone knew, The Tigers burn there final timeout, to plan a strategy to keep the cards out. the Cards line up with the fans on there feet, they put it in on a quarterback sneak. Great game by both sides, no need to feel bad, respect by both sides were certainly had..
  2. Mayfield dropped to 1a in 95 and won it the 1st year over the Beechies
  3. Why is that? I think I'm pretty right on..if you watched the 02 team play, you would know that they were pretty cocky and did take alot of plays off..They didn't always play with alot of enthusiasm and they did have some players, i won't mention names, who were not very team oriented..they were a sr dominated team that year and were very good, but, chemistry wasn't there strong suit, although late in the year, they picked it up....The 04 team was very young, but, were always giving it all they had every play and the nucleus of that team is still there and thats carried over to this year...just my opinion and how i see this bunch.....
  4. This years group is not the most talented Mayfields ever had, but, they have a very workmanlike attitude and listen to whats being coached...In 2002, the 15-0 championship team, had spells where they would take plays off and had alot of not so positive attitudes on the team, who liked to showboat a little..they were workmanlike and got the job done because they were talented and could afford too..then in 2003, the bad attitudes were still there except the talent wasn't and they were very penalty prone, albeit, they were young...then in 2004, although there record wasn't the greatest, the bad seeds seemed to have been gone, they played hard every play, listened to the coaches and you could more easily root for em because they played like the name on there shirt meant something. Now all those freshman and sophs from 03 and 04 are jrs and srs now..the leadership and "team" effort are prevalent with this bunch..I guess thats my thoughts of this team..This and bringing the pride back to cardinal football..
  5. You've definately owned the substate matchup these last several years, no doubt about it...I do think Somerset brings a more athletic team to the table this year than most in the recent past...I think NCC pulls this game out, but, I really don't think it'll be a blowout, by any means, and I give Somerset a good chance to pull off an upset...This team has flown under the radar pretty much all year, much like the 98 Middlesboro team and this team has alot of those same qualities..
  6. Okay, sorry you didn't get it this year..You guys must have a good core coming back next year
  7. Didn't realize all the bickering and going ons, but, do remember the uncalled for unsportsmanlike penalties.. in key situations, at that...How does this years team compare to that 00 group??
  8. The Northern Ky area is very solid in 1a, but, definately not dominant and have certainly not owned 1a, especially since Mayfield and Danville moved down a class, and as someone else pointed out, "don't you mean Beechwood", because I don't recall anyone else from NKy winning it in a very long, long time...
  9. Hearsay, I saw where you posted about the Danville comebacks in 99 and 00...I went to the 00 game at Danville that year...imo, you guys were the superior team and had no business losing that one...wasn"t it like 32-29 or something...I was doing a little scouting and after the 1st qtr, just scouted you guys, then, next thing I know, Danville won and i was thinking, what just happened...When you had the ball and the lead late in that game, what in the world were you guys doing passing the ball deep in your own territory when they got that interception...I couldn't believe it...Even so, you guys definately had the better team, maybe, not quite as deep as the Ads, but, overall, better athletes...I felt Mayfield was pretty strong that year too but the Ads put a pretty good whippin on us... PS: And it sure was cold that night in Danville..Thought i was going to freeze. And Lex Cath was playing across town against Boyle...That cannon of theres got annoying...
  10. Was it, could it have been, uuuuummmmmm, The Ads?? I think it was..Yeah, and the Cards put it to em a couple or 3 times themselves back in the 80's, early 90's, can't recall the exact years... Has NCC ever beat Mayfield or Danville or Bardstown, for that matter...I'm trying to think of a year and its not coming to me..
  11. I hope it is the Cards you face, but, either one, Bardstown or Mayfield will give you all you want, I assure you...Somerset will not be easy either..
  12. Mayfields kickoff coverage has been horrible this year...Almost everytime they do get a return, the other team gets the ball from the 35 to 50 yd line...I believe Bardstown definately has the advantage there>>>Great kickoff return team vs poor kickoff coverage team>>>If Coach Morris is smart, which i think he will be, he won't give the Tigers too many opportunities to return one...As a matter of fact, the Cards haven't been very strong on kickoff returns either...Mcnutt does have the leg to put em in the endzone, but, why risk it and give up a possible big play...It would be ashame to let a return decide a game of this magnitude...If the Cards can avoid the bigplay, they'll be fine and right there in the end..
  13. Mayfield Owensoro Catholic Lexington Catholic Newport Catholic Belfry Bowling Green St Xavier Henry Clay 31
  14. I think his question was, has Bardstown had to play from behind at any point this year...If not, you don't know how they'll react if they get behind?? Not saying they will, but, simply clarifying Snakes question..
  15. Trinity has had the luxery of playing in a very weak region this year..Yes, they're playing better than earlier in season, but, no, they're not nearly as talented as some past Trinity teams....Henry Clay will match up physically on both sides of the ball and possibly possess a little more athleticism overall..They too, are playing well right now and seemed to have gotten over that 2-3 game lull they were in during mid to late season...I see Trinity keeping it close due to Homefield but HC will pull away late...42-21
  16. I don't know who said that either...Mayfields not very big..They have a little size, but, to me are more on the smallish, quick side that get off the ball well. I don't believe it was a mayfield person who said that..
  17. I'm not sure conditioning was as big a factor as depth...Ft Campbell has some great players, but, most of them go both ways..OC definately plays more people... I've got a question though...Had they not made the 1st down and gave it back to Ft Campbell inside there own 20,and they lose, would everyone still be saying "Gutsiest Call","Layed it all on the line", "Great Coaching job", etc., or would they be asking for his head today and saying that was the stupidest call i've ever seen and that cost us the game? Granted, it worked, but, to me, it's insane to do something like that....
  18. I'd say they've seen as good a D with Danville...I wouldn't underestimate Somersets athletes..they have a bunch, too..
  19. Pretty good pronosticating there, 00rocket28...I guess since your team played em both, you had a pretty good idea about both teams...
  20. I think the Briarjumpers have a legitimate chance..They gave Danville all they wanted for 3 qtrs and then the Ads took it to em in the 4th...I think they have learned from games like that thrughout the year and are better now then at that point in the season..Offensively, they have enough skilled athletes to put points on the board, so, there key to victory will be if there defense can rise up and play better then they've played all year and getting some key turnovers...Thats alot to hope for, so, i'm going to go with NCC in a pretty high scoring game...40-27
  21. How would the Admirals know if Mayfields seen this kind of speed..Last i looked, they didn't have any common opponents...We all know about the speed, its been well documented, but, theres alot more to winning games than just speed...You might need a little size upfront and solid blocking or speed is irrellevent and, hey, if you got it and you come to Mayfield and lay the wood to them, more power to you and I'll wish you well in the finals, but, believe me, theres been many a team for many years, who's came to War Memorial with that same attitude and went home with there tails between there legs...Good luck fri night.. By the way, thanks for the bulletin board material...
  22. That 03 team that Mayfield had was very young and injury riddled all year..they took some thrashings from the likes of Hoptown,Tilghman,Eville North,Graves Co and i think was 5-5 in the regular season..that may have been one of the weakest Mayfield teams in a long, long time, so, staying with them then wasn't really that much of an accomplishment..
  23. Wow, I think this is a great idea and I commend the folks in Bowling Green/Warren Co for putting it together this way..WKU is a great facility for a game..It makes great sense and as Westsider said, whats wrong with a 3,4 or even 5 o'clock start in one of the 2 games...If Mayfield weren't still in it, I'd be tempted to make the drive myself and i'd bet alot of other folks from around Ky would,as well...
  24. Hey, thers still some traditional powers left, but, lets not forget some others who aren't there that usually are....Hoptown, Bell Co, Male, Breathitt Co., Corbin..Throw those into the mix with the ones you already mentioned and thats some real traditional teams out early, or, at least early for them...
  25. Since either Danville or Boyle weren't in the semi's in the same year?? Since either Beechwood or Highlands weren't in the semi's in the same year??
