  1. I know Mayfield has had a history with both Union City and Trousdale Co.. Mayfield played UCity 4 times in the 80's and 2 more in the 90's and, i believe have a 6-0 record against them and they took Mayfield off there schedule, however, in those days, they were rotating between 2a and 3a and had a large district schedule and had to take some games off there schedule to accomadate...Mayfield also played Trousdale Co in the late 90s on a 2 year contract, which we split the 2, losing the 1st at home 12-7 and winning the 2nd, on the road, 49-14... Alcoa was far and away the best 2a team in Tn this year..Goodpasture wasnt expected to be there, as most of the knowledgable fans from the area felt the Huntington/Milan winner in the final 8 would represent the west. Huntington won the Milan game 33-21 and led Goodpasture 14-0 early and then fell apart with turnovers and lost 17-14...Huntington would have also lost to Alcoa, but, it would have been a much more competitive game...
  2. WOW!! I'm shocked , not that they won , but, by the margin... Congrats LC and fans.. I know it's hard to take a loss like this, but, don't hang your heads, BG, you had a heck of a team and a heck of a year.. You should be commended, as well...
  3. Jack Morris , Joe's dad is in the Ky HS Hall of Fame, with over 200 wins himself and 4 state championships...Him being on that sideline is a big bonus...They also have Joe's brother and Jacks other son, David , who has head coaching experience, calling the plays from upstairs and then throw in Brad Lawson calling the defensive sets and you've got a very formidable staff..They may lose, but, it won't be from poor coaching. In addition, many NCC faithful have called for Edge's head, not just this year, but, in past years, for his poor play calling, and many hope he wins and goes ahead and retires. He may be a great man, but, I'm only going by what I hear and alltime wins only shows longevity, not neccessarily success, and 40 years is definately longevity..
  4. If you throw Brohm in the mix, then Michael Bush has to be there as well..As far as the 3 state championships, I wouldn't give much credit for that, considering how many Trinity has had before he was ever a part of it and there in it again twice since he's been gone...Couch, too, was on cover of SI
  5. Anyone remember Madisonville,UK and Atlanta Falcon star rb Sonny Collins from the early 70s...Hes gotta get some consideration..
  6. Can someone update me on the most recent weather forecast for Sat night..Expected temp, Rain, snow, clear, etc...
  7. We'll take all the edge we can get..We're going to pack it in....To the endzone that is....
  8. How bout Frank Jacobs(?) at TE from NCC, he was a Mr Football at TE in the mid 80s..had great size and hands and very athletic...Would be hard not to include him... I would prob put Hoptowns Miguel Merritt and Pad Tilghmans Kurt Barber at a LB spot...They were also a Mr Footballs and had very successful college careers at Alabama and Southern Cal, respectively...I think Barber also played in the NFL for awhile, not sure about Merritt...
  9. You may be right HD, but, save the congrats till they play the game. Thanks for the bulletin board material, though...
  10. I doubt that Mayfields Defense is much better if at all better than CCs..Don't get me wrong, they flat out hit ya and don't miss alot of tackles, but, I wouldn't expect the Cards to shutout NCC, like CC did, although, i don't think CC would shut them out either, at this point in the season...Matter of fact, i think they may have a good shot at em if they played again right now..
  11. Better yet, has there ever been 1 region win all 4 state games???
  12. Region 3 has 4 teams still represented in the playoffs and Region 1 has 3. Its quite an accomplishment for 1 rgn to sweep another and 3 of 4 isn't too shabby... Does anyone know when the last time there was a sweep..i think a few years ago, rgn 2 may have done it with Male, Boyle, Corbin or Etown and Danville, but, not sure if that was all the same year...
  13. No disrespect to last years teams, but, I think the 2 this year are better than the 2 last year...Highlands would give either a great game, I just think they may be a notch better this year...I definately think the contrasting styles of this years teams will make for a very entertaining game...
  14. I see what you're saying, but, i was looking at the bottom where it shows Diehl 125 of 198 for 1366 with 14 tds and 5 ints and then Sheltons were 91 of 169 for 1421 with 15 tds and 13 ints...Could be a misprint, because the team passing yards were quite a bit more from NCC...Do they have a backup who played in some of those blowouts that may have had those other yards???
  15. From looking at the stats, Mayfields QB has thrown for more yards than NCCs with only 1 less TD, but, he's got 13 ints to only 5 for Diehl...It appears that NCC has about 30 more completions, so, they may be more of a short, controlled passing game with the occasional bigplay, but, who knows...I agree, overall, the stats look very similar...Should be a great game...Can't wait...Go Cards!!!
  16. I think it'll be a good game for a half, then the cards will take over..Mayfield 31 NCC 14
  17. From what you hear or what you've seen...Sounds to me like you just pick whoever can come up with the best comments and have no 1st hand knowledge whatsoever...I believe Bardstown felt the same way and have alot more reason to feel that way than NCC does, at least from a statistical point, and i know the next comment is they didnt play anyone, well, You were certainly high on Danville.. Frankfort, Holy Cross, Larue, Campbellsville, Glasgow are pretty decent teams and they only gave up 34 to the 6 combined...
  18. St Xavier Bowling Green Owensboro Catholic Mayfield 52
  19. Its said that styles make a fight..Well these 2 teams are definately a contrast in styles, so, it should be interesting...Being a Mayfield fan and watching them play these last few weeks, I trully believe this group of Cardinals are playing better overall than any other Cardinal team going into the championship..I don't think they're the most talented, but, they play a very sound, swarming defense and the offense is a machine. What makes the offense click is there diversity, Shelton, Dumas, Rust and Hatchell are all go to guys in there own right..Shelton can pass and has 3 very good receivers plus these same 3 can catch it out of the backfield..On defense, they play a 3-5-3 and all 5 linebackers are fast, strong and athletic and there DBs are solid cover corners with good size who can also play the run and lay the wood to you..I know NCC is an outstanding team and are also on a serious roll and some of there schemes will probably cause the Cards some trouble..I just trully believe the Cards are playing with so much confidence and swagger right now that they'll get the job done..Good luck to both teams and may the best team win...
  20. Mayfields OL was awesome tonight and Dumas and Hatchell were picking up big chunks of yardage all night long...B'town had no answer for Mayfields size...The Tigers are cat quick but youve gotta have a hole to run through..I thought Mayfields defense played extremely well...Bardstown's opening offensive play went for like 85 yds and they scored on there 2nd offensive play...After that, they were shut down in the 1st half as they only had 1 first down in the whole half...They got a big return to start the 2nd half down to the cards 24 yd line and tied it up, but, Mayfield came right back with a score on 7-10 yd runs back to back to back to back, it seemed...Bardstown tied it on a nice pass play over the middle from the Cardinal 34, but, then again, the cards OL took control and pushed em all over the field to retake the lead...the defense took over from there to put the final touches on the game...Great win by the Cards and congrats on a great season for the Tigers...
