I agree that Owensboro improved quite a bit, but so has CAL. Keep in mind CAL was still rotating QB’s at the time. And that CAL held Hampton to 17 total yards *at* (your stadium is awesome, btw) Owensboro. A hypothetical playoff matchup with Nov/Dec CAL at CAL or at Commonwealth Stadium would be in clock territory…

J Burke is currently on pace to shatter the state record for completion % by 3.5 points ?. Not to mention if you apply Brodie Pfeiffer’s 6 TDs from when they were splitting time….not that unreasonable…would be at 51-1 TD/Int. That kid isn’t going out seeking any kind of accolades, but the hype train is going to discover him at some point. Absolutely surgical.

FWIW, CAL ended up picking up a game at Ballard and won 40-10...

Yup….Scott JV came down to CAL earlier in the season, CAL won 62-14. Understandable with the Saturdays, but CAL-Highlands/Beechwood/CovCath would be pretty fun to pull off even if in just JV capacity ?

CAL JV has an home game opening this coming Monday night October 27th, someone dropped out and I don’t think it’s been filled yet. If any of these NKY teams (or anyone really) is interested they should reach out to the CAL athletic department or football program.

Nothing, there were several varsity contributors playing both ways for Central, none for CAL. Next two years for CAL Varsity may surpass this current one, if that’s possible.

I posted on here earlier this year about that, they better clear some room in the record books for him. He’ll set the state record for completion percentage soon (I think it’s 79 or 80) and then prob break it again. Incompletions are pretty darn rare for him when he’s locked in, which is always. Very special player….

It was pretty telling in the 2nd half, stopped alternating and went with Burke and he answered the bell. Manages the O so well. The game icing drive that we had to have, Burke was cool and collected always. And that’s at 6A Ryle with the place packed and the cannon firing. No knock on Pfeiffer as he has played very well, but I would think it’s Burke’s show from here on.

He’s a good basketball player, I don’t know a lot on that end. But if that was the case I’d think he’d have stayed. He left immediately after being told he was no longer competing for Q.

Turner did not make the cut when the comp went from 3 to 2. It was a pretty wide gap.

For all the Boro line talk, a reminder that CAL is without its starting RG and RT….played a Freshman at RT and the long snapper at RG tonight. Chemistry and sum of parts-wise, this CAL team eclipses last year’s by a decent margin…

With some key injuries coming in, CAL really pulled away convincingly. D was flying around and physical. Backs were running *angry*. Q’s didn’t do a ton early, but Burke was throwing gas in the 2nd half, and Pfeiffer added a beautiful bomb. Some very physical play from CAL’s seniors Hilliard/Vazzana/Stoner. Awesome matchup with Owensboro coming up!

There is really no limit to how bad CAL would have beaten Franklin Co. in a real game….part of that being how good CAL is, but part Franklin was pretty bad.

CAL is taking JV to EKU, same as last year. JV actually fared pretty well then, beating some good teams and taking Ryle varsity to double OT in the tournament portion. Varsity just returned from BG and Hoover tourney, and is at LCA and St X this week.

Don’t they have a decent Q? And Garyon can play R, in fact he can be a stud there. He’s a top shelf elite athlete, period….

Bad luck to an extent. Some may have not been allowed to come back, and some were looking pretty hard go to prep school. Can draw from that.

Burke was at just about everything, save a couple of segments due to baseball. Reps for everything have been doled out very carefully and judiciously by Cantwell. Whoever he decides will be very well thought out on his part. Any of the three can lead this team to a 4th straight title. The two transfers are well liked/integrated well into the program. My guess, and that’s all it is, is that it will be Burke. His accuracy/intangibles/ownership of the Cantwell offense are all off the charts and that has been on display in the spring. Pfeiffer’s cannon and Turner’s run/pass are strong attributes to be sure. But Burke’s plusses are elite. Despite the big name losses I think this team posses a significantly bigger amount of chemistry than the last. Starting 3 receivers are elite, and next 3 can all play ball. Very solid SR TE. Very deep at RB as well. All pieces there on O. D has a few more questions to answer but crazy good up front. I think they have the pieces just figuring out where they fit. I would think a couple losses along the way are possible but very difficult to stop them from winning #4 in a row.

I don’t disagree. But IMG offered him despite the measurables being pretty obvious on the lower end. 5’10 180 with thicker build and if I had to take a stab at a laser 40 prob in the 4.6++ range. It was surprising, given what the CB spot requires these days. Aspirations/Vaughn seems to have an inordinate amount of pull around here, at least for “offers” so maybe there’s a connection there too, but I don’t know that. I would have thought staying here and building name recognition would have been the play, but his circle was shopping hard to get into a bigger fishbowl. All the best to him.
