Best JV Football team in NKY?

Featured Replies

Covington Catholic, Highlands Bluebirds, Beechwood Tigers, Ryle Raiders have all had successful JV seasons but which one is the best? I would have to say the Tigers.

Welcome to BGP @Thespade!

Thank you! I'm excited to be here.

Whichever one brings down the most varsity players. Why have to take JV results with a grain of salt.

CAL JV has an home game opening this coming Monday night October 27th, someone dropped out and I don’t think it’s been filled yet. If any of these NKY teams (or anyone really) is interested they should reach out to the CAL athletic department or football program.

Rex, the issue with that is in NKY we all play on Saturday mornings... except for Scott High who inexplicably stopped two seasons ago and started playing Mondays.

Yup….Scott JV came down to CAL earlier in the season, CAL won 62-14.

Understandable with the Saturdays, but CAL-Highlands/Beechwood/CovCath would be pretty fun to pull off even if in just JV capacity ?

Yes that is the case for some of the less talented teams but I feel like JV games for schools like Cov Cath, Highlands, Beechwood who let the younger kids play helps us understand how these teams could perform when they get to the varsity level. I remember last season when Beechwood was able to pull off the upset against Covington Catholic who ironically had Emmett Queen starting that game against the tigers and it came down to the final 2 point conversion in OT and I remember Queen playing well against a stout tigers defense who only allowed 14 something points against Highlands and that was the first game I pointed to when I found out he was taking his talents to Fort Mitchell.

CCH JV finished a great season yesterday with a big 33-7 win over Moeller. Overall record of 7-1 with wins over Ryle x2, Highlands and Beechwood. Only loss came to Elder in OT by a FG. This team is mostly Sophomores and Freshmen. Sophomore QB Dylan Courtney had an outstanding year. He finished the season yesterday by throwing 3 and running 2 TDS against Moeller.  A great team with a bright future.

Cov Cath is much deeper than they usually are and should be extremely good the next two seasons. Guys like Jason Fedor (Jr WR/DB) would be starting on varsity most seasons instead of tearing up JV for the 2nd year in a row. 3+ TD wins over Trinity at the freshman level and Moeller on JV is no joke.

Having players like Brandon Smith (WR/DB) and Kiyan Miller (RB/LB) enroll as freshman are the types of guys that Cov Cath typically doesn’t get and can get you over the hump against really good competition in future years.

When you see it on paper like that, it’s no doubt the Colonels are the best JV Team in NKy.  I also agree on the earlier take, that JV results are always with a grain of salt.  Go Colonels!!

I don't think Cov Cath has been short on getting those type of guys? I think that's exactly why Smith and Miller are where they are because their families trust the process of what Cov Cath has done for those type of guys before them.

On the roster yes, but not those positions is what I meant to say. In the JV game Kiyan Miller outran the Moeller defense and then trucked some kid at the goal line on a 60 yard screen for a TD. We’ve had some good RBs, but no one that can do that as a freshman athletically.

We’ve had a lot of good players, but no one at WR/DB that is playing as much early as B Smith. I don’t think we’ve had an FCS player or higher at those position under Eviston that stuck there (Coldiron moved to TE at Miami after playing WR in high school). IMO adding those guys in to a normal Cov Cath class is how you go from really good to great and over the hump.

Is he playing DB? I thought he was at LB but I say that without much due diligence done lately. I don't know if he is a receiver at the next level. Well a receiver at a high next level. But I could see him playing LB or TE at a high next level.
