  1. Everyone I know who has actually studied medicine disagrees with you. Any face covering at all can stop droplets that carry the virus when you cough, sneeze, or even breathe on something. It may not stop you from getting it, but it's extremely effective at preventing you from spreading it to others if you're an asymptomatic carrier.
  2. Good capicola is the best when I can get it. Gabagool! I'll always appreciate really well-prepared ham.
  3. First major sports league to come back in Europe kicked off today. No fans. It’s weird. 17-year-old American Giovanni Reyna (son of US legend Claudio Reyna) was scheduled to make his first start for Dortmund and got hurt during warmups. The possibility that these guys wouldn’t quite be ready to come back seems to have been a legitimate concern.
  4. I haven't read enough about it yet, but if that's coming out fully above the line, it's possible that this could be a real tax savings. If your loans are that small, then your interest deduction could probably be smaller than the overall reduction of AGI you'd get if your employer was willing to sign on. I have a lot more catching up to do on this. So much weird little tax stuff packed into that bill. Speaking of "above the line", you -- and everyone else for that matter -- are getting a $300 charitable giving deduction for 2020, regardless of whether you itemize or not. That's a fun one.
  5. Yeah it's a strange distinction. They're only required to report the account as "current", but that has evidently included at least a couple separate terms for the particular accommodation. The one that's interesting for me is the new employer-pay provision, in which an employer can pay up to $5,250 in student loan payments this year, tax free to the employee. If a borrower is in a position to make it work, you could potentially be talking some serious savings. Lots to still work out on this one, but student loan payback is starting to become a serious selling point for companies looking to hire. This is only going to accelerate it, especially if Congress makes it permanent, like a lot of experts think they will.
  6. Hey I got 33 from Liberty Bootchamul myself. What a relief. As easy as that was, why is it that when I call insurance companies in a professional capacity, they never seem to have any money?
  7. Yeah I'm definitely curious to see how much they'll play. Teams in the relegation zone are going to lose their minds if the season gets cut short and they were anywhere near the line. Same for the teams coming up from the Championship. I saw weeks ago where a couple teams made a no-relegation proposal for this season and playing a 23-team premiership next season. I doubt that's gone anywhere, but it's an interesting idea.
  8. Jesus that's awful. How did I miss this one? Was it much reported in Louisville?
  9. It's not about moral high ground. It's about what the educational mission of the university should be. For me, that involves the funding of women's athletics and the non-revenue sports of both genders. It creates opportunity for all sorts of student athletes. If the football team feels it owes nothing to the university mission, that's fine, but I don't then see why they should benefit from the educational status of the university as a whole. I'll also say that I don't see college and professional sports in remotely the same way. Business is business and those need to stand on their own. College sports may look like business, but they're something else, complete with the tax exempt status that goes with it.
  10. Luckily for UofL, "Lack of Institutional Control" is not among the list of "charges" in this notice. That would have been very bad. Not that the sole Level 1 allegation isn't bad enough, but at least it wasn't that.
  11. As a fan UofL sports, I hope we're to the point that we can talk fines and maybe some scholarship reductions. I don't imagine that's what will happen, but I'll remain hopeful until it's pointless to do so. In reality, it's hard not to just brace for what's coming. We had what we believed to be a justifiable sense of pride during "The Year of the Cardinal" in 2012-13. That pride has been revealed to be hubris in the years since. The culture around the university lacked any accountability and leadership ignored problems in favor of convenience at every turn. Pitino ignored his assistant coaches, Jurich ignored Pitino's continued issues and ran the athletic department like his own little fiefdom, President Ramsey turned the other way while his underlings used the university foundation as their own private piggy bank. It was a mess. I'm glad the notice didn't include "Lack of Institutional Control", but heck, what other phrase should we use?
  12. Hmm... Caddyshack Monty Python and the Holy Grail Rushmore That's with no thinking. Like all these lists, that might change in an hour.
  13. I completely disagree with this. You want your football and men's basketball team to function as a government-backed not-for-profit entity (as all university presidents do), then you suck it up and fund smaller sports, you fund women's sports, and you thank your boosters for helping out. Now if we want to spin major college sports away from the tax-exempt, not-for-profit education area, then we can talk.
  14. Pulled pork and wings from Eli's BBQ Riverside in Cincy last night. Along with a new discovery, the beef hot dogs topped with pulled pork, slaw, and pork cracklins. They were outstanding.
  15. Tagliatelle bolognese. Spaghetti carbonara. I'm going to one of those, entirely dependent on whether I want tomato sauce or not in the moment. Definitely my two favorites.
  16. I made it through two minutes. She's clearly brilliant and quite probably delusional.
  17. I had that on my list to take with me to Michigan this summer. That trip isn't happening now, but I'm really looking forward to getting into it sometime this summer.
  18. Kansas NC State Louisville Oklahoma State South Carolina USC TCU Those are the ones we know have received notices so far on this Adidas business. It's been widely reported that the NCAA is still working on Arizona and LSU. It honestly looks like they're working from the easiest cases to the most difficult (or at least most complex and far-ranging).
  19. It's darned if you do and darned if you don't. A friend of mine was working as always (being at UPS at Louisville Int'l Airport, which is nearly as busy as ever) but those guys aren't getting anywhere near what they need for protection and contracted the virus from a guy on his team, who got it from his wife. Now an entire 8-man crew is in the middle of a 14-day mandatory quarantine. His symptoms are minor (thank heaven), but it's just insane out there.
  20. That gif is ALWAYS ready to go on my phone. It's an all-timer.
  21. Mike Rutherford lied to me!?!?!?! Got that from his article yesterday. Must be an error. Didn't know this is going to be the 100th game. That's fun.
