  1. Looking at all the talent they have year after year, not to mention the size they have, not sure the name of the young man this year, but boy was he a big guy, and it seems to always be that way. It is clear their coaching staff does a poor job. And this isn’t just coming from me looking from afar, this is from football families of Ryle, who agree with me. As far as measuring wasted talent, definitely a tough one to put my finger on, but I’d have to say, the Morgan’s, Chisholm’s, Ross’s, Bisek’s, Savage’s, England’s of the world, it’s quite a mystery of how they are not the top of NKY every year. Engler has been mediocre since day one, blessed with talent, and done nothing with it. Like I asked earlier in this thread though, if that’s success for Ryle, that’s fine. At least the kids are having fun. And I see why they fired Warner, it’s all about having fun.
  2. Story of Engler’s career. Never win, but “dang good team.” IMO, most wasted talent year in and year out is at Ryle HS.
  3. Now the 2nd time I’ve heard the same name for this job: Brandon Bargo. Heard only good things about him, hope to see it work out. Seems like a no brainer.
  4. Heard nothing but good things about the kid. And that he will be on the field a lot whether that is at QB or WR and defensive back.
  5. Dixie must have fired all their coaches, brought in a new roster, and been practicing everyday since their last game of the season.
  6. Tough to say as I’m not sure of who all got an interview. Of the names I believe did sit in front of the committee: Pence and McMillen are teachers. Shelton is not.
  7. Tend to agree. I know there is/was some extra due diligence being done with one of the applicant’s current school’s AD, HC, and Principal. If I had to guess, he’s the front runner.
  8. 35 is listed in max preps, which is always off by a guy or two either way. Last years roster on KHSAA website listed 29. I think if done correctly, the new coach should look to get about 35 guys on the team.
  9. I wouldn't expect to hear anything until tomorrow.
  10. What is a successful season to Ryle? Year in and year out, it seems like they have top talent, and can’t do much with it.
  11. Just told the turf being torn up in the upcoming weeks, with a plan in place where new turf is laid during dead period and ready to go for July Practices. The old turf’s first season was 2015, Eviston’s first year.
  12. Brandon Bargo - Believe he has stops at Berea College, Union College, and I think currently at Barbourville HS.
  13. I do know it was college coaches galore. Some really big names and schools in to see Willie. And some good exposure for the younger guys. No spring game was held, so never got to see the early product like years past, but all I've heard was good things. Stacked at the skill position, and trying to piece together an OL. If the Colonels can find an OL, they will be scary this year.
  14. To your first point, I totally think its possible you miss out on those type of guys. I am all for giving young guys a chance, and am not in the camp of "oh he's too young." I think if the coach aligns with your vision and you believe he is the best man for the job, go for it. Regardless of age. But, realistically, I do believe some of those "prestigious" jobs miss out on those types of guys now and then. But at the end of the day, it's a we'll never know kind of thing. Secondly, agreed. That is part of my reasoning for allowing younger coaches to have a chance, even if they may be a little too young on paper. Closer to kids age, more in the know on all the social media fads, what is popular, and potentially more pathways to connect with the kids.
  15. Whoever it is, will have to hit the ground running. I'd assume we'll hear Friday, or the decision will be made on Friday, and the announcement made early next week on Monday or Tuesday.
  16. Great topic to discuss. I think I will start off by defining what I beleive "young" coach means, as a lot of people throw it out there, but have yet to define exactly what that means to them. Feel free to pick this apart, but my thoughts is that their need to be two different definitions of "young." Non- Coaching world young: 21-30. Coaching world young: By default, as you have to be 21 years of age to coach in the state of KY, I have to include them. 21-45. As always, their are some exceptions to the age. I think when this topic is dicussed, it is often paired with "energy". It is no secret that their are plenty of coaches who don't fit within this age group that bring an incredible amount of energy to a program. A common mistake I've seen others make, as I am guilty of myself, when a job opens up that isn't necassarily a "KY Blue Blood" job that has years and years of proven success, that we label this job a great job for a "Young and energetic" coach to come in and bring some excitement to the program. Simply mentioning that is not the mistake, but I know what I have in mind when aligning with that kind of speaking is mentioning that with the idea that a younger coach could potentially be in that position for ahwile, could grow with the school, reset or set the culture, and build something special. BUT, I think we need to realize the days of coaches staying in one spot and being a "lifer" are long gone. As far as head coaches, I commented the following in the Open Job: Beechwood thread earlier this year in response to what Beechwood should look for in their next head coach. It is important to note, that I realize Beechwood would be considered a "KY Blue Blood" so this may not be the best example, but I do believe this holds up for most schools. "HC experience 1a) overall record, year to year record improvement, enrollment numbers (+/-), state championships, regional championships, overall record compared to previous coach 2) Teacher - ability to be in the building 3) Assistant coach 3a) What program we’re you apart of, success of program while you were on staff, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, overall record while on staff, success of your side of ball while on staff (O, D, ST) 4) Ties to Beechwood/Fort Mitchell/NKY community 4a) Will you be a good steward in the community, be active, and promote other programs, events, and teams 5) Coaching ties 5a) who have you coached for, coach with, played for, played with. The success of the programs you have been apart of and the connections you have. What will your staff look like 6) Tradition 6a) Do you understand tradition of Beechwood football, are you prepared to continue that. Have you been apart of tradition rich programs in the past. Are you prepared to bring in your own system, culture, and tradition while still honoring and respecting the past. Just some things I’d look for if I were Beechwood decision makers." Now, nowhere in there was a mention of a young coach. Why? A couple things, a young coach could very well fall within one of those "requirements" or "criteria". Also, as for a first time head coach, I beleived the Beechwood job is too prominent and too good of job that was going to attract some very good candidates across the state in which a first time head coach was going to be overlooked. In summary, you are correct. Every coach is different. Every school is different. Each position is unique with their own hurdles, obstacles, and benefits. At the end of the day, as the years go on, I am all for "young" coaches to get a shot, as the profession is shrinking and the oppurtunities are growing. Everyone starts somewhere, whether good bad or indifferent, even if a first time head coach comes in and does a poor job, I believe it is far to early to label them as an unsuccessful coach. Failed at the job at hand, sure, but a failure overall? Too early to tell. Just my two cents. (Reader beware: Length of my reply may be painful for some and most importantly, no comments made about who is considered "young" was intended to call out the old guys. We're all young at heart, some just older than others! LOL ? "
  17. I usually don’t turn on my Anti-Beechwood rhetoric until the season starts!
  18. It was a joke. I’ve heard nothing but great things about Logan, and have yet to hear anything bad about Volker. All in good fun.
  19. Not well, already ran the strength coach off?!
  20. Believe he made an appearance in the weight room as the guys were working out and talking with a few of the previous staff members. Not sure if that means something or not, or if that’s standard procedure for all those applying. But if they expect a decision by Friday, I’d have to assume they need to wrap up interviews by today or tomorrow at the latest.
  21. Was told this morning with only a few coaches getting interviews to begin with, they hope to have a decision by Friday. Rather quick 1 week interview process leads me to believe they already have their answer.
  22. Thanks for sharing. Only heard good things about the young man, he will be missed at Beechwood I’m sure.
  23. Where is Logan Neff off to?
  24. 100%. Those days are over. You don’t want to be used as a stepping stone, but you also have to admire the coaches work if they are being sought out by bigger and “better” programs. No one wants a loser.
