Since the early 90s, there have been 4 games go over 20k.* Since 2007, there have been 2 additional games go over 12k.* It is also worth noting that the Trinity/St. X regular season game consistently goes over 12k. This season I believe the attendance was around 16k. The data would suggest that the move to Lexington did a number on state championship attendance. Also, in my opinion, Louisville has a much deeper football culture than Lexington. I believe a move back to Louisville would drastically increase attendance—so much so that if it were held in Lynn Stadium, a title game would sellout once every few years. *This data is all pre-pandemic. I do not like the idea that there’s a chance—although outside—for a state championship sellout. I understand that the environment would be awesome, but I would hate to see someone miss a game because the crowd was at capacity or because they got priced out.

Berea would’ve been the 3 seed in their district—slated to play Paris in round one. The KHSAA Scoreboard makes it seem that due to Berea’s withdrawal, Frankfort will take the spot of the 3 seed and will play Paris in round 1, thereby giving Raceland a first round bye.

I am of the opinion that strength of schedule is an overhyped metric. If you lose the tough games you play (especially if you lose them badly) I do not think you should get credit for it. Quality wins matter more than quality games played. If EKU played a full SEC slate, they would still be EKU. No disrespect to the Colonels.

Pikeville has beaten 1 team with an above .500 record. 2/3 of Pikeville’s losses were an RC Cola. Certainly Pikeville has had a tougher schedule. But does that toughness equate to a real “battle-test” if you’re getting blown off the field? Does any of this actually correlate to making a run in the playoffs? Maybe… But I don’t think it matters as much as people like to suggest.
