Ashland has the big shoes to fill with the next man up. Ironton will be in somewhat of a rebuild year but with kids still not close to being approved for Covid vaccine the WV schools aren’t playing out of state for the most part. Ashland and JC probably won’t happen but part of the deal there goes back to when matteny was coaching Sheldon Clark and they were in Ashland’s district early 2000’s. We were playing on 2000 at home and SC was up 34-0 late 4 quarter(under a minute) matteny called a timeout and ran full back trap and the kid went 17-20 yards for TD and matteny went for 2, the next year 9/11 happened the week we were suppose to play each other and of course it was to be rescheduled for the next 3 weeks matteny refused to play us until state forced his hand. We played game of Friday night then Monday night we played SC(killed them and even called a timeout because play that coach Hart called was going for TD, irony we called fullback trap went for TD) and then we played 3rd game that next Friday so we won all 3 games big allowing starters to rest from mid 3rd quarter on. Ever since then the guys still on staff at Ashland have always held a grudge towards matteny and now Tony I believe is only one left from that era. I filmed for the coaching staff from 1998-beginning of 2018 when I left for second cancer surgery, I also filmed for my brother his junior and senior years 89-90. He and the rest of the 90 core group used my film to know exactly what coach Marsh would rip them for those 2 years on mondays.

I download the NFHS app and switched to watching game on there and I’ve not had the buffering problem.

You’d think being at Kroger field the KHSAA would have an uploading problem with a video feed ??‍♂️ I could use my phone as a hotspot and do better I think.

If Coach Chirico’s kids play anything like he did at Marshall they should get their first state championship.

They practiced Tuesday at Coal Grove’s field. I had figured they’d done all week at BC but seen Chad post pic from Tuesday evening.

Ashland has seen the wing-t for years thanks to Russell and a few other schools and they’ve played the WV schools because the play wide open spread offenses and granted this year they didn’t face either George Washington or Spring Valley they still played Raceland and Bourbon County that tried to throw it everywhere and Raceland being the only team to score twice in a game. Don’t underestimate the team speed Ashland has on defense and last week they stood toe to toe against Belfry for 48 minutes and didn’t waiver. Still I think it’ll be a close game possibly decided by who makes the one mistake. I’ll take Ashland but won’t be surprised to see Etown pull out either.

There’s been talk for a few years of wanting to change it back to Ashland High School as most members of the Blazer family have pasted or no longer live in the area.

I use to paint the field from 1999 thru 2008 in addition to filming for the coaching staff from 98 thru the start of 2018 when i left for cancer surgery. Plus filmed for my brother during the 89 and 90 seasons before he went to Marshall to play. As for tonight it’s going to take a game like 88 or 90 semifinals for Ashland to win. They done great so far considering the lost the 2 kids they thought would be their qb’s before the season and had Jake Gregg transfer to Wheelersburg in the off season. Tonight we’ll see how good our defense really is.

I’ve not walked up to Putnam to look at the field but if it’s worse than after the Bell/Ashland playoff game we lost 13-3 on a rainy night, footing in areas could be dicey but with dry weather and warming temps later this week it should be fairly dry. We’ve put down rye grass before after tearing up the field in November games but I don’t think it would do any good this time around. Now if Ashland matches Belfry physically and doesn’t turn the ball over it should be a great game but if Ashland turns it over I don’t see them being in it at the end. Also got to give Pittman credit in signing with Army.

Ashland @ Bell Co 2pm kickoff. Didn’t see this one coming with Greenup not cancelling until Thursday evening. Should be a good game not sure Ashland can get the win, always seems we get snake bit playing there.
