  1. Could you explain why you added Beechwood to this? Sorry, wouldn't there be a larger potential impact to Cov Cath, Brossart and NCC? I think most would equate this to a potential large scale impact to Cov Cath, NCC or Brossart. NCC should probably be most concerned with the constant talk of dropping attendance and championship draught. Geographically, Cov Cath would see the largest impact. Its going to take more than 10 years to derail that train. Can't see any potential impact to Beechwood unless there is a massive unforeseen change.
  2. I can speak to part of this ... how is the new coach and previous staff not getting along? Coach Volker brought every single Varsity coach back ... Hergott, Berger, Burnett, Bruno, Fisher, Baugh, Mercer ... D. Mescher is back and he originally planned to finish his final year of college eligibility. A new strength coach has been hired and is an excellent fit. The kids obviously will always have special feelings for Coach Rash. Interesting thing ... the kids seem to really like Coach Volker as well. So excuse me for being dumbfounded ...so far I haven't seen or heard anything similar to what you claim. I can't speak to the Coach Rash aspect ...I am not in that circle.
  3. Hardge played 1 game last year and 5 games the year before that. Last year he had 1 carry for 2 yards. Has he been hurt the last couple years? If he was one of their two best players, why didn’t he get more action?
  4. Sorry to hear that ... from my dealings ... Coach Kemp is a good dude and a good Coach.
  5. Cameron Boyd was just announced as the 9th Region Player of the year. Congrats to Cam on an incredible baseball career thus far. I can’t wait to watch him at the state tournament and Southern Indiana.
  6. Love it! Looks much cooler than I thought it would.
  7. Yep, down 2-0 headed to the 7th. Had men on 1st and 3rd with 2 out, down 2-1 and Landon Johnson was down 1-2 in the count. Worked it to a full count, and then roped a bases clearing double into the LCF gap. Tigers tacked on an insurance run to make it 4-2, and Torin O’Shea got Dixie out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 7th. Brach Rice and Sam Stacy both pitched really good games. Rice only gave up 2 hits through 6, but seems like he ran out of gas in the 7th inning. It was a helluva game!!
  8. Quick question ... do you ever wonder why LCA quit running the ball against Mayfield in the Semi finals? I understand how good Boley is ... at the same time ... sure felt like that game could have been closer if LCA would have kept running the football. LCA had great size and were solid run blockers upfront. Is it all in with Boley taking them to the promise land? This may not be the place, but that game makes me scratch my head everytime I watch it.
  9. All good .... heck I knew I knew it. The staff and Logan have been the common denominator through the changes ... the kids have handled things well. Changes like this are life ...they usually don't happen so quick!
  10. Seriously ... please stop. Logan had a tough decision that was also an opportunity. I am sure you were having fun ...but lots of changes for that group ... no disrespect intended. Coach V has fit right in since the beginning. Nothing but good so far.
  11. Wow. Thank you -- after 30 years in this sport -- I finally have someone who is willing to teach me how things REALLY work! First -- colleges very much want "large framed" fast, quick kids. Notice the word "frame"? Or -- maybe you can understand the word "long". Show me a top tier college or any pro team -- I will show you 85% of the team that is "long" or "large framed". I am not really sure how you can't make heads or tails out of the words "large frame" ... but to each his own (I guess). I do find this comical -- do you really believe that college assistant coaches are scanning twitter or any type of social media to find "fast" players? Seriously? To start -- pretty much every bowl series team assistant today has either recruiting assistants or their secretaries handling their social media. Smaller schools -- it probably happens more often. Let me give you a quick reminder -- the topic of this thread basically about bogus 40 times. I know there are some pretty impressive football minds who read this site -- if there is frustration from the common, every day fan, high school coach, etc as to how some of these times are basically impossible or are captured by a stop watch or flat out lies ... Do you really expect a big time college football coach to be impressed with 40 times that they see on social media? Do you really think big time college coaches can't look at the competition that a "fast" player is playing against and realize that the competition is really good ... or really bad? No offense -- but college coaches are a little more talented than you are giving them credit for. As I said earlier -- I have been deeply involved in the game for over 30 years. How did schools figure out who was fast BEFORE social media? (I hope you absorb this answer for your own sake ... which = FILM and seeing a player play in person). Combines ... hmm I would say that every once in a while -- a large school will find a diamond in the rough that they may have missed if the player would not have shown up. Again -- the odds are probably better that a player at a combine may interest a coach at a smaller school. Do you know why college assistants like camps (and why people who love "combines")? Because it is usually means extra income for the assistants on staff ... yes ... its actually written in some of their contracts. Most persons who run combines -- whether you agree or not -- its a freaking money grab. Nothing less/nothing more. "Recruiting sites" -- seriously? While I am sure college teams pay for access -- they are usually only subscribing because all of the other schools that they compete with are. At the end of the day "Recruiting sites" fall easily into the "Money Grab" trash bin. Specific camps that are ran by schools -- usually invite guys they want to see -- but that isn't the same as a combine -- or camps where schools let in 300 kids for 3-5 days of Mommy and Daddy throwing down their hard earned dollars. Your analogy about track -- and kids running the 100 meter dash is bogus also. It doesn't take a genius to know that the fast heat is either the very first heat (more common now than in the past) or the very last heat (not as common as it used to be). It isn't hard to see that a kid that wins any of the other heats is significantly slower than a runner in the fast heat (unless a coach fudges a time -- which also doesn't happen as much as it used to thanks to FAT). Not to mention, I have never been to a track meet where I didn't have a stopwatch, watch or a phone with a stopwatch. Its pretty easy to see who is fast and who isn't. The 40 is a gimmick. It is put on for a show in the NFL combine -- and it is part of the show to make parents feel good about shelling out money for little Johnny or Jack who just has to play college football. Why would a P5 college coach give a damn about an offensive lineman running a 40 yard dash -- when the OL player needs to be quick/fast for 5-10 yards on each play? Why would an NFL coach care about players running a fast 40 when less than half the players on the field at any one time could potentially run 40 yards? (At that level -- they are ALL fast). They don't. Yes, fast players are great -- but the best players have the ability to hit another gear when they are in the heat of battle -- and that can't be measured in a 40 yard dash. We don't have to agree (matter of fact -- I really hope we don't). The really interesting part -- is that with the transfer portal -- all of this conversation about speed will continue to evolve. Colleges now spend approximately 75% of their resources on transfers. Which leaves the high school athlete having to not only be fast and large framed -- but ready to play immediately. More importantly, college coaches who build and develop relationships will be even more important in trying to get those players to stay. I will end with this -- in reality the current high school football recruiting landscape is about 2 things ... winning and money. Kids post their "offers" on social media to brag or show off and to make Mommy and Daddy feel proud. The reality of the situation is -- there are basically no committable offers anymore. And -- most "offers" that parents and kids are hung up on -- are basically "offers" for that player and/or parents to pay $40-50K a year to be on a college football team that rarely lives up to the experience they had in high school.
  12. Not to specifically disagree with your point ... but the thought in general ... I have been involved in the game at the high school level for 30+ years -- I haven't met a single college coach at any level who specifically asked for a players 40 time. Those players stand out against most high school competition. Most importantly ... 40 times are a gimmick/marketing scheme used by camps and fraud trainers who sell kids, but more so parents, on the idea that colleges and college coaches care about 40 times. They don't. College coaches want to see players with large frames who are not just vertically fast ... but laterally quick/fast. A friend of mine has a relative who plays across the river. He has dropped fast 40 times, average 40 times and everywhere between. Not much interest. When college coaches started to see film of this player leaving Lakota West and St. X players behind ...it was a game changer.
  13. Good point to remember -- in the state of Kentucky for track -- when they moved to FAT (fully automatic timing) the standard deviation for stopwatch sprint times = .24 (then you would still officially round up to the next tenth. So 4.5 = 4.74 -- then rounded up to 4.8). So -- anytime you see a hand time -- add a .24 to it and you are a lot closer to reality. I did also just see a dust up from a big camp -- where the laser wasn't calibrated correctly -- and 40 times were approximately .3 slower than what it technically should have been. First time I have ever seen that happen in the real world.
  14. So, what is your definition of young? No offense, but a "young" coach with 10 years experience isn't all that "young" Best case we are looking at 31 to 35 years old ... which still isn't all that young. Ten years experience isn't young in football years. As I have said before ... the most energetic coach I have seen was on the backside of 50 ...and nearly 40 when he got his first head coach job. Aren't the "young" guys the ones who usually use jobs like this as stepping stones? At the end of the day, I don't think we are far apart in our logic. I think there are great coaches out there who are waiting to be found. Schools can look for the right fit ... and truly scout the area for the right person. They don't have to settle for only the coaches who apply. I think this is an intriguing job due to the people and players at Ludlow. All I am saying is search and look ... don't just wait for the miracle worker to apply.
  15. How is that better than finding the absolute best coach possible regardless of age? Ludlow could be on the verge of taking things to the next level. New field, more winning than losing, solid support ... how is a "young coach" better or most importantly, a better option than finding a really good coach who knows how to get over the hump. Taking some time and really looking around the area for the best possible option may turn the program into more than a winner. Think bigger. There are some great coaches around who can take things to the next level. The "young" path rarely produces the desired outcome. A knee jerk decision isn't needed here. Find the best coach.
  16. It’s 100% Ross Hart’s job and it always was.
  17. I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to know who the person is that would get involved and make this entire thing a mess.
  18. Here is a tidbit for you. In 1993, Cov Cath beat Beechwood in the regular season 31-3. Later that year in the district tournament, Beechwood beat Cov Cath 4-0, knocking CCH out of the post season. Brandon Berger hit a home run up 2-0, that may still be circulating the moon.
  19. Amazing is it not? Maybe those "in the know" aren't really "in the know"
  20. I know for a fact that none of the current staff applied for the head coaching job or had any desire to. I talked to 3 of them and they all said the same thing; everyone is a paraprofessional and couldn’t swing it to be the head man with their careers. As usual, you couldn’t be more wrong.
  21. I believe Beechwood is opening the season against McNick this year. I heard that the over the weekend.
  22. Especially at closing time, those 5’s becomes 7’s!
  23. They are really “in the know” after they have a few pops in them!
