  1. The job is still posted. Will start interviewing after the post comes down.
  2. Johnson Central always tough especially with Joe Jackson returning to the mix but I think Greenup can be competitive with Ashland this year. Talented group of seniors who’ve played together since 1st grade. Should be an exciting year for the Musketeers.
  3. Thoughts What positions will need to be filled? What do they have returning?
  4. Once a team is up 35 points the running clock starts. Once a running clock starts, it cannot be reversed even if the opposing team closes the gap. I have no idea what was wrong with Greenup in the first half (I have my opinions but will keep them to myself) but they decided they needed to play basketball in the second half instead of tiddlywinks and started closing the gap on the score but it was too late for them to make it respectable with a running clock. Ashland has definitely improved their game from last year. I don’t think they missed a shot in the first half. Those kids were pulling up from half court it seemed like. Anyway, hopefully Greenup gets it together to have a decent season.
  5. Any team can beat any team on any given day. There were 4 teams last night who won but lost to that same opponent in regular season. With that being said, I do believe the system is broken and needs to be fixed. I like taking the top 3 with the #1 seeds getting a bye. I think that gives everyone something to work toward. Having 4 teams from each district in playoffs is too much. You had teams going to playoffs and didn’t win a single regular season game. You had teams in other districts that maybe had a 4-6 or even a 5-5 season and didn’t get in. They need to reclassify the schools and each district should have the same number of schools in that district instead of this district having 6 schools and that district has 4 schools.
  6. Why not have top 2 seeds of each district play for “state championship” and the bottom 2 seeds play in a bowl but not called state champs just AA bowl champs or whatever. The games would be more competitive and interesting instead of team 1 seed beating team 4 seed by 60 points. Just a thought.
  7. I believe we (GC) have that same ref in common. I truly believe he looks over the schedule from our JFL to Varsity and laughs an evil laugh with a “i’ll get you my pretty” when he sees GC. When he is announced you can hear the GC fan base collectively sigh because we know we are in for a long night. He has followed us and reffed games out of region. He even uses his nickname when announced especially when GC/Raceland play each other because he doesn’t know which fan base dislikes him more. There should be a system in place to evenly rotate these refs. It seems like we have the same crew every Friday Home or away. I look forward to playoffs with different officials, don’t know if it’s any better but at least there’s not a bias I hope. This one ref in particular has reffed our boys since 2nd grade and he’s not a fan.
  8. Playing at putnman is at least worth 12 points and you have to play against 15 on the field with every spot of that ball being backed up at least 3 yards.
  9. Greenup will continue to get better and better. The young qb is very talented but can get rattled. In time he will learn to handle the pressure. I do believe Ashland was not expecting Greenup to give them a challenge. We could go back and analyze the plays, the calls, and so on and so on that could have swung it Greenup’s way but what I take away from that game is Greenup is no longer a guaranteed win for some of the teams in this area.
  10. it was a very interesting game, EC coaches on the field during their offensive plays and no special teams.
  11. JC needs to move into another district that will challenge them. Ashland may give them an ounce of competition but not really. I don't know what they feed them boys in eastern Kentucky.
  12. I believe Champ is doing great things with the East Carter program and there's no doubt they are more competitive this year but I'm going with Greenup on this one.
  13. Greenup does want this one for the W. But I hear the main goal for the year is to give Ashland a loss. Alot of friendships and close ties between all the players on both teams...Always loved this match up because its good clean football. The way they have prepared for this game is like any other but the head coaches in this county are related and or worked with each other for years. Should be a heck of a game. Still see momentum being the wick to the dynamite. Who ever gets fired up first >> "Wins The Day" - "Wins The County".......
  14. Totally agree. Greenup was not mentally prepared for Fleming. That and the short rest was a factor as well. Their DB's looked sloppy and the Qb was out of sorts but I believe it was a good learning experience for a young team and they should look different this coming Friday against Raceland. The long ball threat wont be as big of a factor in this game and greenup looks solid on Run Defense. The Halstead kid has produced 90-100+ yd games in every outing and The receiver group for GC is well balanced and the Qb completion percentage is well above the average for this area. The transfer kid from Boyd County to Raceland has proven himself to be a major asset on both sides of the ball (Dalton?). It'll be a close game .... wouldnt bet the bank on either side. Should be a great atmosphere with a great turnout.
  15. Absolutely. That game could have easily gone either way. Terrible news for the Alexander kid. Tremendous ball player and really hate to see him have to sit out his senior year. That kid made the most incredible catch against Greenup last year in the endzone. Just amazing. Good luck to Fleming on the rest of their season.
  16. I don't want to take anything away from Fleming Co. they played great and capitalized on Greenup's mistakes however Greenup was all out of sorts last night. They played a tough game on Saturday full of emotions and then had an unexpected turnaround of playing on Thursday having to travel 1.5 hours. They'll regroup and be ready for the next one. They are relatively young with a young QB at the helm. It was an unexpected loss but you'll have that. I look for them to have a good season. Congrats to Fleming Co.
  17. Ashland is going to be hungry for a win. Playing at Putnam is always tough. This is a toss up for me but I'm going to go with Ashland...home field advantage.
  18. I think Greenup has this one this year. I really hate it for Stump to be out his senior year. That's a huge factor in the game. He's a great player and they will miss him on the field.
