Ashland looked like they were going to run Greenup out of their own gym, leading 50-16 at halftime. The Musketeers got the better of the 2nd half to make the final somewhat respectable.

He finished with 19 points. When I saw the halftime score, I wondered if he was even playing tonight. Ashland just completely shut Greenup down in the 1st half.

 

Chase Villers led the Tomcats with 22. Devaunte Robinson added 19. Ashland is now 6-0, Greenup falls to 2-3.

Ashland is looking pretty solid at the moment. The score in this one could have been much worse but Ashland let off the gas. Up 33-9 after the first quarter and the mercy rule started in the second quarter, after that it seems that Ashland just coasted to the win. Coach Howell likely isn't happy with that but I'll take it as a road win.

I'm not really sure when that started, I didn't know they had one either until Monday's game with Rose Hill. The running clock starting in the first half has been mentioned on the radio broadcast the past two games though.

Once a team is up 35 points the running clock starts. Once a running clock starts, it cannot be reversed even if the opposing team closes the gap. I have no idea what was wrong with Greenup in the first half (I have my opinions but will keep them to myself) but they decided they needed to play basketball in the second half instead of tiddlywinks and started closing the gap on the score but it was too late for them to make it respectable with a running clock.

Ashland has definitely improved their game from last year. I don’t think they missed a shot in the first half. Those kids were pulling up from half court it seemed like. Anyway, hopefully Greenup gets it together to have a decent season.
