2016/17 3rd Region Preview....
This may be the least amount of talent in the 3rd region in 20 years. Even the best player is a Doss transplant. There aren't any Holmans, Millers or Wrights walking through that door.

2016-2017 12th Region Season Preview
I wouldn't say University Heights is good. They have 3 good individual players on their team but they basically played park ball while their coach sat on the bench and hung out with his assistants for the whole scrimmage. Steven was very impressive in the scrimmage. He had a streak of about 15 points in 2-3 minutes. Danny had some nice passes. Sylvester definitely needs post touches though. He can give them an inside presence that most teams in the 12th lack. Don't confuse my comments as critical. Just my observations of the scrimmage. And the main thing is that they are ready in February. I do think they are the best team in the 12th.

2016-2017 12th Region Season Preview
Observation from watching Pulaski on Saturday: Landon Powell barely touches the ball. And when he did, he shot some pretty atrocious bricks. Danny Butt was playing the 1 and bringing the ball up while Landon played off the ball. Also, they never look in the post to Sylvester. He even yelled "Give me the ball" one time when he had the post defender on his back. He didn't get the ball..... The concern would be if they will have long term chemistry issues. Long season. Lots of time to get stuff fixed.

Lex Cath / PRP scrimmage
Not many D1 kids only getting 2 points in any game. Scrimmage or otherwise.

Who will become the next UK player from KY?
His recruiting confuses me. I think he's much much better than his current offer list.
-
Basketball Scholarship Offers
Agreed on all points. The thing that separates so many D1 athletes from the lower levels is foot speed and the ability to guard (especially laterally)

Scholarship.

Who will become the next UK player from KY?
I think Tandy, Dontaie Allen, David Johnson and Moreno could all be candidates for a spot in 2019. I know Johnson and Allen have already been evaluated by UK in the past 6 months or so.

Who will become the next UK player from KY?
There was a long running thought on Kentucky Sports Radio that this would be the year that Calipari offers and takes a kid from Kentucky. Which makes sense with Willis and Hawkins graduating. A lot of folks thought it would be Tay Hollingsworth but he's going off the board tomorrow. Most of the top kids in the Commonwealth are already committed. Is there a kid in 2017 who could wind up playing at UK? I say no. Are there kids in 2018 who could play there? I say maybe. Are there kids in 2019 who could play there? I say there are potentially 2-3 who could (depending on development over the next couple years). What say you, the BGP faithful?

Taveion Hollingsworth - '17 Guard, Dunbar - Recruiting
He is WKU bound. Smart money always on Rick Stansbury in recruiting.

Basketball Scholarship Offers
Ryan is physically weak for sure. He's skilled but I don't see him ever being anything more than a D2 prospect at best. He would never sniff being a top 100 player in the class even if he added 60 pounds because he is a below average athlete. To say he would be a pro prospect and top player in the country with added weight is completely nuts. He'll never even be a top 20 player in the 2017 class in Kentucky. Potential only gets you so far. At some point, there must be results.

Johnson Central Adds 7 Footer From Germany
Because it's Kentucky basketball, you can park him in the lane or in the middle of a 2-3 and he can just get in the way on defense. Now Mason Blair can continue doing the Mannequin Challenge on defense and only worry about offense.

Paul Laurence Dunbar 2016/2017
Completely agree with this assessment. Not much help on that roster. I'll take Lexington Catholic or Scott County to win the 11th. Doubt Dunbar even makes the regional tournament.

Cats Pause 12th Region rankings
Addition by subtraction, I believe. Steve Wright, in my opinion, is a terrible coach and a jerk. Having Danny and Steven leave means that the ball will move better. They have a tendency to only pass to each other.

10th Region Cats Pause Player Rankings
This is an opinion I agree with wholeheartedly. I think Allen is a better high school player and is a potential high major college player. I think that Ohmer and Crawford are good HS players but if you drop them into a good basketball school in any region with athletes and length, they are very average. Dontaie would fit right in on any good team in the state and still be elite. The kid was putting up 30 in games against some of the best AAU teams in the country this summer.

And how does such an athlete just arrive in the school district?

2018 SG CJ Fredrick (Covington Catholic)
I think Kentucky has enough talent, size and athleticism that you can put together elite level teams that can compete nationally. Imagine a starting five like this: C - Jake Walter or other big PF - Mickey Pearson SF - Trevon Faulkner SG - CJ Frederick PG - Andrew Taylor That's a team that can score in bunches and switch 1-4 defensively and has an anchor in the post.

2018 SG CJ Fredrick (Covington Catholic)
I wish he (and all the best kids in Kentucky) would play AAU in Kentucky.

Is 2019 the best class to come through Kentucky in recent memory?
I assume he just moved in?

6th Region Cats Pause
I agree they are too low but on the surface they don't return much experience, no (consistent) starters, and not much scoring. The Couch hire doesn't inspire confidence. He's done less with more even dating back to his Eastern days. Having said all that, Bullitt East should always be top 5ish in the 6th. I'd bet they'll be a factor by region tournament time.

10th Region Cats Pause Player Rankings
I do think he is light years ahead of the other 2 by just about any criteria you want to use. If you want to debate college prospects obviously he's on another playing field than Crawford (slow) and Ohmer (short). It all depends on the evaluation criteria. And I'm sure you and I could go point/counterpoint all day but at the end of the day I think Dontaie Allen has the potential to be a professional (not necessarily NBA) player while I think the other two will be living legends in their communities. And there is nothing wrong with that. And I expect Crawford and Ohmer to have great years. But I think Dontaie Allen is better than both of them.

Jake Walter - CCH (Class of 2018)
Offers are nice but we'll see where he actually signs.

Cats Pause 12th Region rankings
Keep in mind that these rankings are simply an average of what was returned to Les by the coaches. So, if you know any 12th region coaches, your beef is with them.
