Should we just go ahead and mail Beechwood the 1A trophy?
You won't jinx it if you say Beechwood will win. Best combination of coaching, talent, and toughness in their division and, relative to the size of their school/squad, possibly the state. What I mean by this is if they had a varsity roster the size of Trinity's they would easily compete for the 6A title. I look at it another way - have you ever seen Beechwood beat themselves? They win all the games they are supposed to win, and more than their fair share of games where they are the underdog. This is program that has maintained their culture and commitment to excellence through the years - a credit to the coaches, kids, and community.

Ryle 49 Highlands 27
How many times has Chisholm been caught from behind? That's all I need to know about his speed. Kid's a football player and a winner - pure and simple.

Beechwood 36 Corbin 29
All well and good - but hypothetically, had Beechwood been required to get on a bus and go play at Corbin...?

Moeller (OH) 38 Scott County 28
I'm quite familiar - Moeller won state championships in 2012 and 2013. I also know that Moeller went 4-6 last year and 5-5 in 2015, and will likely finish 5-5 this year. They are not a regional let alone a state power this year, nor have they been for the last several years. It is what it is.

Top players in NKY
Long player - some people say maybe too long - but can't help but keep growing. Sets the pace for the game. A few years ago people might have said he was too green - now has a deep-rooted sense of responsibility and leadership.

Moeller (OH) 38 Scott County 28
Not sure what the fuss is about Moeller - they finished 4-6 last year and are projected to be the #6 playoff seed in their region (not state). Moeller is a good team but this is not the Moeller of yore...

Beechwood 36 Corbin 29
What does it say to the rest of 3A that the #1 team in that class lost to a 1A school?

Covington Catholic/Kings (OH) Updates
Convincing victory for CCH. This team is for real.

Calvary Soccer strong in nky
Time for Calvary to raise their game. Given their schedule/results to date it is possible they have become a bit complacent. Could be the HC game is the wake-up call they need to be successful through the upcoming stretch. It will all play out. NKy soccer seems to be one big toss-up this year...

St Henry 1 Dixie Heights 0
Dixie has some playmakers on offense but lacks consistent cohesiveness. I could see how on a night when things are clicking they could be very competitive, on other nights not so much. I actually heard that the long turf scored the goal for St. Henry - is that not the case? If so, would certainly support the thinking that the St. Henry grass is actually their secret weapon...

5A # 9 Highlands vs. 6A #9 Ryle
Deleted.

5A # 9 Highlands vs. 6A #9 Ryle
It wasn't kool-aid - Highlands was for real. Best-coached, toughest, most confident team in NKy and - most years - the state. The pride and culture of excellence once associated with the program seem to have eroded. It will take more than an infusion of talent to bring those characteristics back.

5A #1 Covington Catholic at Kings (OH)
My prediction: - If Bowling Green DOESN'T show up to play in Kings' place - Cov Cath wins - If Bowling Green DOES show up and tries to play in Kings' place - things get really weird really fast - could go either way - especially if BG and Kings join forces Anyone know if BG is planning to be in Cincinnati tomorrow night?

Calvary Soccer strong in nky
From my original post: "Very good team - with soccer as a primary sport the AD should find a way to play the strongest teams in NKy every year. It could be that those teams are pushing back. " I don't know that CC didn't try to schedule harder but I did say it was possible teams were pushing back on scheduling CC...

How will Beechwood react come playoff time?
A more complete illustration: - They will board the bus at BHS - They will get off the bus and warm up - They will play the game - They will win - They will board the bus and come home Different process and location - same outcome.

Calvary Soccer strong in nky
Very good team - with soccer as a primary sport the AD should find a way to play the strongest teams in NKy every year. It could be that those teams are pushing back. Regardless, a squad this talented should be rewarded with playing the best competition year in/year out. Mercy rule games aren't a good use of anyone's time.

5A # 9 Highlands vs. 6A #9 Ryle
A lot of information - but good news for Ryle.

5A # 9 Highlands vs. 6A #9 Ryle
It's not often I say this about Ryle, but they are tougher than Highlands and will win going away.

How good is Covington Catholic?
I like Shearer a lot and think he brings another dimension to SK's offense. That said - I think CCH is the class of NKY this year. Too many ways to score and more than enough D to create separation.

Moeller (OH)/Trinity Updates
Moeller rolling so far - sounds like complete domination. Is Trinity any good? Discuss...

Simon Kenton 13 Conner 6
Ryle beats Conner by 2 TDs - too much Chisholm, too much depth. If Trosper has any sense he will just put Simpson in the wildcat for the whole game. Simpson is as dynamic a player as Chisholm but somehow I think Conner won't be as efficient getting him the ball.

How good is Covington Catholic?
I disagree with this point - I think Cov Cath suffers from the fact that they haven't been as good as people thought they should be for the last 5-10 years. As a result I think they are getting more scrutiny and their success is being met with more skepticism. Now if Highlands were rolling like CCH is...

How good is Covington Catholic?
They have a legit D-I QB - that's a great place to start on offense. They have a D-I linebacker - that's a great place to start on defense. They are very good up front on both sides of the ball. They can run and pass - and defend the run and pass. They are legitimate state championship favorites. If they didn't have "Cov Cath" on their uniforms there wouldn't be so many questions. The fact base is pretty clear, but people don't seem to want to believe.

Simon Kenton/Conner Updates
I think the playbook is always limited. Conner dominated the first half last year. After halftime, they kept running the same plays - SK had adjusted and shut them down. Sounds like the same story this year. A pretty good football coach once told me he put together a different play script for each half based on the plays he knew his team could run successfully - and assuming the plays that worked in the first half would set up the plays for the second half. His team scored A LOT of points. Conner just keeps running the same plays.

Simon Kenton/Conner Updates
Same story as last year - SK makes adjustments at halftime, Conner doesn't. Can't run the same 4 plays the whole game...
