Holy Cross has plenty of new blood themselves returning only 3 players that had significant playing time last year. The glaring difference was the Holy Cross defense. At one point Ryle turned the ball over on 5 straight possessions. However HC had a hard time stopping Jones who had half of the Raider's points. McClain was held to 6 I believe maybe 8. I was surprised they didn’t get the ball into her more. She was being guarded by 5-8 Ella Lehmkuhl a senior who has missed the last two basketball seasons due to soccer injuries. So she had 9 inches on her. Holy Cross was lead by Aumani Nelson who had 32 points. Holy Cross was up by 14 with 1::45 left in the third and Ryle made a run cutting it to 9. HC put in Rhodes who is a lock down defender with a huge wingspan who forced some turnovers and HC stretched out the lead to win by 18. I imagine both teams will mature throughout the season and improve.

Agreed. It's at least three hours for NKY. I liked the RIchmond location, although I am not sure how far that was for Western Kentucky

The Holy Cross boys and girls team played a doubleheader against Walton up there a few years ago. They did charge to get in, but I don't remember how much. It wasn't anything too much. I think the hosting school got part of the gate to help cover the cost of renting the gym, but the details are a bit foggy. It was a fun experience.

Has anyone seen the full list? I have seen some teams putting out their players but no cohesive list. I would say first, a perceived advantage in sports is not why most people send their kids to private schools. In NKY, most "private" schools are actually parochial schools that parents send their kids to for a faith-based education. There are certainly parents who do so for sports, just like they go to different public schools for sports, but sports are not why there are so many catholic schools in NKY. I would argue that sometimes in sports there is a disadvantage. Parents pay for every facility or piece of equipment directly in tuition or sports fees or through fundraisers. My kids have a grass soccer field that isn't in the best shape and no home football field because our school doesn't have millions of dollars for a turf field. My tax dollars, however, built beautiful facilities for the Kenton County schools. I chose to send my kids where I did so no sour grapes, just facts. I would say the schools with an advantage whether public or private are those with involved parents and or a tradition of success. Success breeds success

Dixie defeated Holy Cross in PKs after a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation and overtime. It was 0-0 at the end of the first half, but Dixie had many more shots on goal. Dixie senior and Eastern Michigan commit Abby Parsons scored with about 25 minutes to go in the second half. Holy Cross started to get a few shots on goal but couldn't put it into the back of the net. With 14 minutes left in the game, Dixie got called for a foul, and Holy Cross senior Ella Lehmkuhl scored on a free kick from the 35-yard line. Both teams had a few opportunities but there was no more scoring through overtime. For PKs Dixie started with a nice shot in the corner. The Dixie goalie stopped HC's first kick but moved early and HC put the rekick in the back of the net. Both teams made number two. Dixie made number 3, and HC was off the frame. Dixie missed number four and stopped HC, but then their goalie was early again, getting a yellow card and some instructional time from the ref on what she was doing wrong. HC hit the rekick. Number five Dixie made, HC was stopped this time the goalie did not jump early. Dixie will advance to play Highlands in the semifinals. It was an awesome game to watch. The HC girls should hold their heads high.

The first round starts on Monday Top half Notre Dame vs St Henry Conner vs NCC Bottom half Highlands vs Cooper Dixie vs Holy Cross There could be several really good games in the first round. It looks like all of these teams have played each other in a regular season. Two were ties and another was 2-1. Connor NCC was the only lopsided victory at 4 to 0. Good luck to all the teams.

NDA wins in the finals 3-0. NDA scored in the first ten seconds and dominated the first half leading at halftime 3-0. HC settled down and played better the second half but just couldn’t get much offense going. HC defended quite a few corner kicks well and didn’t give up any goals in the second half. I believe the draw is Saturday. In the opener NDA takes care of business beating Holmes 10-0. The second game was a battle. HC and Beechwood have already faced each other twice this season. Beechwood won the All A regional finals 1-0 and won the district seeding game in PKs after 0-0 in regulation and overtime. Beechwood has won the last 8 meetings. In the first half Beechwood had two opportunities to score when the HC goalie came off the line to attack the ball. The first was a shot hit off the near post and was cleared by HC. The second was stopped by defender Lehmkuhl clearing the shot with a header. It would definitely have gone in. The game was pretty much back-and-forth. Beechwood had two corner kicks that were stopped by goalkeeper Klais. Holy Cross finally scored with about five minutes left in the game. Tetzel passed to MacDonald who to Craft back to MacDonald, who crossed the Donnellan who got off a shot after the ball bounced around and put it in the back of the net. HC held on for the last five minutes to advance to the district finals for the first time in four years.

Is there a max-margin they use, like in basketball or soccer tournaments? If not, it seems like a somewhat flawed system with no out-of-state teams and rewarding teams for running up the score. Although there are definitely flaws in all the systems.

Holy Cross has a nice crew of freshmen. Morgan McDonald is a stud. She blew by NDA's defense but, unfortunately, didn't have enough help. I really thought she was going to get a goal towards the end of the second half, but unfortunately, she was fouled, stopping the breakaway. HC was unable to convert the direct kick they were given for the penalty. Ellie Tetzel is another freshman that we should see scoring this year. HC needs to get more than 1 or 2 down there on offense, crashing the goal. NDA had 7-8, putting pressure on HC's defense. Our defense was exhausted by the end of the game. It should be an interesting year.

Holy Cross is doing some rebuilding after graduating all-time leading scorer Ivy Hoffman and the three Saalfeld cousins that anchored the middle. Luckily, they have several talented freshmen who have been looking good in Bluegrass games and now Soccerama, who will help fill the void along with several returning upperclassmen. Today's game started out fairly evening with a lot of back and forth in the first half, with the half ending at 0-0. In the second half, the Indians scored first on a free kick by Ella Lehmkuhl from about 20 yards out. The Indians followed with three more unanswered goals. Senior Campbell Christy scored the loan Walton goal with about 2 minutes left in the game. The first regular season game for the Indians is Monday in a district-seeding game against Holmes. Right?!?! My daughter was screaming at the TV “that was a great screen”. That was absolutely terrible. UConn got screwed.

This is the first woman’s college basketball game I have seen this year. I am generally not a fan of woman’s bball but wanted to see what the hype was about. Iowa is getting a lot of the calls it seems. I am assuming Clark in the finals is the storyline that is wanted by media and the NCAA? The free throw discrepancy is crazy.

I have mixed feelings about that. It would be fun to have it close so more fans can come and not be as expensive, but some of my best bball memories with my kids involved roads trips with hotel stays at the All A.

When we were at the All A this year, the talk was that there wasn’t a host lined up for next year yet. The renovations at EKU were allegedly running behind and it would not be ready. Memorial Coliseum would be awesome but imagine it would be hard to work out.

We will have the same thing in the 9th. Cooper vs Holy Cross in the semis ranked 2 and 4 in the state media poll. Then if you look at the actual state tournament draw, the lower bracket is loaded. Our districts are seeded but nothing else. ?‍♀️
