Great job this week, as always! McCracken is really good and very fun to watch. Their game Thursday against Marshall County was a great watch from start to finish. Marshall County is a really good team as well and as good as Langhi is this team as whole is very formidable. I’m excited to see what this St. Mary team can do in a couple of years.

How will the offensive line look? I know they’re loosing both Jarvis Strickland and Ben Myers but I don’t know anything about who they return or younger players coming up on the o-line.

Final from Bowling Green. I watched the live stream on the Sporting Times website. Both teams looked good. McCracken County had too many turnovers to win against a team the caliber of Daviess County. Jonathan Moss from Daviess and Myles Woodfork from McCracken were the players of the game. I believe Woodfork had 27 points I’m not sure what Moss finished with but it had to be around 20. Both of these teams should be heavy favorites to win their regions and could potentially meet again in the Sweet 16. Very enjoyable game for anybody that would like to watch it I believe you can watch it on demand on the Sporting Times website.

This game is available on YouTube on The Grind Session’s page. Daviess County looked good against a really good team that has multiple D1 caliber players and several players between 6’7”-6’10”. Also of note is Daviess’ only real big man, Watkins, was in foul trouble for most of the game and didn’t play much in the second or third quarter. Daviess has 3 losses on the season and all have come against strong out of state competition. This is probably the best team from the 3rd region since the 2015 Owensboro team that won the state championship.

Excellent job as always! I think if Langhi had played Marshall probably beats North Laurel by 10 or so. McCracken had a good performance at Lexington Catholic as they played Boyd County closer than anybody else in the tournament so far. We’ll see how Boyd does against Daviess in the championship game. I’m very excited to see McCracken play Daviess and wish Graves was fully healthy to see how they match up with McCracken when they’re at full strength. I agree with your prediction that the region 1 champion will be either McCracken or Marshall and I give the edge to McCracken at this point. It’s an exciting year for region 1 basketball and thank you for your work with the weekly reviews!

I’m extremely impressed with Spurlock so far. I had not seen him play before this tournament but he is fantastic. This Boyd County team has impressed me overall.

I don’t believe Marshall County’s best player, Matthew Langhi played against North Laurel in the first round game. Does anybody know why? Is he injured?

Thanks for the reply and from I saw last night I would agree. If they play, and shoot, like they did against McCracken they’re going to be a tough out in this tournament.

I watched the game on Prepspin and I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a high school team shoot the ball as well as Boyd did. Spurlock is a fantastic player with a high basketball IQ. I enjoyed watching him play. Can anybody that is more familiar with Boyd tell me was that performance the norm for this team? They shot the ball extremely well.

The second half was a completely different game from the first. McCracken started playing better in the second quarter but I believe they scored more points in the third quarter alone than they did in the entire first half. They looked like world beaters in the second half.

The rankings look great too me. Good job as always! Additionally I agree, PT’s schedule is brutal for a first year coach and a program that lost their best player.

Per yoursportsedge.com Bray Kirk led Lyon with 29 points. It was a 54-50 game going into the 4th quarter before Lyon pulled away.

I was impressed with PT’s resilience after trailing 17-0 early. Finishing the game 48-10 is impressive against a really solid Logan County team.

Carterville is a really cool place to watch a game! The cannon they shoot off when they score can get annoying if you’re the opposing team and they’re scoring often but it’s still really unique and fun. Also per the John A Logan College Little Egypt Football Poll Carterville is ranked as the number 2 team in Southern Illinois behind Benton and per the IHSA they are number 7 in the state of Illinois in class 4A. This was a high quality team Hopkinsville faced on the road.

I believe Matthew is Dan’s son. I know the Langhi’s have had quite the history at MCHS. Dan’s brother, Bob I believe, also had a solid high school career and was probably 6’7 or so. He was an assistant at Lyon County when I was in high school. Either way Matthew has quite the family tree.

I agree with your rankings. I think McCracken is going to be head and shoulders above the rest of the region and Marshall could be vulnerable if anybody can find a way to slow Langhi down but good luck with that. Good job!

That’s huge news for McCracken and really bad news for PT.

Per PTHS Davis played at Meridian IL and led them to a 1A state runner up finish in 2015 and then returned as head coach at Meridian and led them to a 1A state runner up finish in 2021. I don’t know much else about him but this appears to be a strong hire.

Your rankings look very accurate to me. I think there will be a slight gap between 3.McCracken and 4. Tilghman and a bigger gap between 5. St. Mary and everybody else.

Calloway County returns their top 3 players and I would pick them as favorites to win the 1st region next year followed by Marshall County. Henderson County returns Davenport and Suggs and should be the favorite in the 2nd region. Lyon County looses a lot but they have a really good sophomore class led by Kirk, Breedlove, and Defew that should keep them competitive at the top of region 2 for a couple more years. Bowling Green only looses 2 seniors and returns Bailey, Barber and Wardlow from a top 10 team this year. I would expect the Purples to be the heavy favorite in the 4th region next year with all the talent that Warren Central is losing. Some other western Kentucky teams to keep an eye on would be Paducah Tilghman, McCracken County, and Madisonville North Hopkins. PT only loses 2 seniors from this year and return their 2 best players in Woodfork and Thompson, a sophomore and an 8th grader respectively. McCracken loses 3 seniors but one of those didn’t play this year due to an injury and they return Klope, Fulcher, Jackson, and Martin. Madisonville only looses 2 seniors and they improved significantly from the beginning of the season to the end this year.

Good win for McCracken as they look to still be the leader in the 1st region. Mayfield looked good and I think they’re going to be competitive with the other top teams in the region.

I was able to watch this game on McCracken’s YouTube page. There were a couple of times where McCracken started to pull away but UHA kept coming back. Enjoyable game to watch but I think at some point during the broadcast they said McCracken was like 13/30 from the FT line. I feel like as of right now UHA is probably the biggest threat to Lyon County in the second region and McCracken is as good as anybody in the first region.
