Good win for Paris. Still not sold yet on them. Need a win against a big school or against GRC with Igo. Haven’t seen Strings yet. Not to bring up old discussions but I’m not sold yet. Her getting big stats versus the teams they play doesn’t impress. Who does she play for in summer? What college offers does she have? Has she picked a college yet?

Seems like NDA is the team to beat in the 9th? AP poll has them in top 5. Ryle not even top 10. Saw Scherr had a triple double recently on Twitter. Been watching basketball for a long time, had to go back to Jaime Walz days to remember a high school player with a triple double. Those happen much? Anyone remember any in recent past?

Scott is really struggling without Meredith. But they seemed to hang with Brossart in this game? I was not there, sluggish game for Brossart?

Lady Camels were not themselves vs Brossart. Take out that loss and Campbell could be considered a favorite for the 10th. CC has just as good a shot as Brossart or GRC to win the region. It will be one of those three. Paris is good, probably one year away though from making noise at the regional tournament. Beating GRC without Igo is fine but not a statement.

The Lady Camels will not be an easy first match up. We have some shooters and excellent players this year. Holbrook was a leading scorer for all northern Kentucky last year. She won’t be easy for Ryle to stop. Ryle with the win, but Mallory and Jayln won’t make it easy for them.

I think there are probably two. Lawson for sure. Lockard probably. Reinhart maybe.

Last year at this time I was strongly suggesting that Mya was not a top 5 player in the region until she had proven it on the court against the good teams in the 10th and the top players in the summer (See Zoe Strings). Last year Meredith was impressive. Very impressive. I heard she played top EYBL team this summer and was further impressive. I’ve read of multiple high D1 offers. Igo was good last year but nothing great. Igo did not play summer supposedly? Igo is attending a below average mid major school. In my opinion the torch has been passed.

Geez... cmon coach. We’ve been over this. Just cause 11/12 coaches of the not so good teams in the region think Zoe is good doesn’t mean she’s actually a top player. Coaches are hesitant to vote for multiple girls on one team early on so they don’t. In my opinion (and others who watch a decent amount of basketball in the 10th) Zoe is not better than the five 2nd team girls listed by coaches. Only because she has not shown anything against strong players and teams. How can that not make sense? Just cause she the “top player” and “highest scorer” for a small school does not make her better than players pricing themselves on the court across from top girls. GRCs second string could probably beat Paris and stop Strings. And does Paris play Scott this year? Do they play Campbell? Do they play Brossart? How can you say the team or its “Star” player are any good without playing the best teams in the 10th. And to add to that Paris and Strings have been demolished by GRC (who is on their schedule) so that only proves the point. Again before you get sour I’m not saying Strings is bad. Or maybe she’s really good. But how can we ever know if she doesn’t play on any summer teams and never plays against top teams/players (except GRC that shuts her down)?

Who does she play for in the summer?

Guess depends on how you define impact. Creech has played three seasons now, headed into senior year. Her career averages - 5.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.3 app. Starts at PG for an average non power 5 team. Last season she was 2 for 10 from 3 pt for the whole season. 2 for 10. After all the hype about her scoring she clearly is not allowed by her coach to shoot the ball. What else is she going to do besides get assists. Being a starter and a passer only (and average at that too, 2.3 apg) for an average non power 5 team is “not making an impact” in my opinion. Especially after all the hype coming out of the mountain areas about her, people actually think she deserved Miss Basketball over Boley. Boley starts for the number one, best team, the whole country. She has gotten to play in a final four. 12.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.1 apg. 108/251 three point shooting. 43% 3pt shooter. Best team in country. That’s impact

To ge fair I haven’t seen her play other than video now. And as mentioned By others her lack of exposure to bigger schools and in the summer do matter when ranking the top 10 players in a region. How can you be confident she belongs if she’s never gone against the better players of the region? Just your “eyeball” test? That seems unreasonable. To say she is better than the Byars girl or Flowers and is top 3 at GRC without seeing her play them seems silly. It DOES matter that a girl plays at a small school because they can put up stats that other players cannot. Whitney Creech scores more points than any player in KY history (and one of the top scorers EVER in the whole US), yet didn’t win Miss Basketball and is not even making an impact at a non-power 5 school WKU. So who Strings plays against does matter. Of course any team they play will “try to stop her” because she’s their best player, so that argument means nothing. Especially if the team trying to stop her are players from Pikeville, Augusta and Model. Against GRC she averaged 6 pts, 4 rebounds and was 3/15 FG in two games. And she’s the 5th best player in the region? Being a top vote getter for 2nd team? What does that mean? She was 6th in voting you mean? She will stand out against 11 of the 17 schools in our region and all those 11 small schools are happy to vote for her. The reference to her not playing summers or college is obvious. The other players in the region that do play year round will get better exponentially faster than Strings. Strings won’t improve by not playing. And college offers represents the talent evaluators (college coaches) that get paid up to hundreds of thousands of dollars to evaluate the girls. If she is good regardless of her intentions they will offer and pursue. Which they of course haven’t because she’s not that good. Players like Allen, Byars, Jackson and Taylor are having interest or offers from colleges and that does matter because it tells you and me (people who are just armchair evaluators) who the experts think is good. And the other posters reference to the other small school Miss basketball winners makes my point. All those young ladies played in the summer and had offers. They also won games against big schools and averaged more than 6 pts a game against good teams

Great information! I do think you’re being generous by using stats from Nicholas and Bourbon, two mid-level, decent, but not really top 10th region teams. If you take out those teams I think that gives a better picture of where she’s at relative to the top players. I’m sure Paris will be decent this year. And I’m sure she’s the best player on the team. But I would find it highly unlikely, nearly impossible, for a girl that doesn’t even play in the summer to be a top 10 player in the region. There are probably 25-30 girls better if she’s only playing school ball at a small school like Paris.

Haven’t gotten to see Strings play. Not sure why Paris isn’t ever on Camels schedule? Who does she play for in the summer? At her age does she have offers? Most all the girls in the top 10 will play college ball, so I’m not convinced she’s there yet. Last year around this time there was some discussion about whether Mya Meredith was a top player in the 10th. Up till then she really hadn’t proven or shown it against the top teams in the 10th and against real competition in the summer. Mya was the best player in the 10th last year IMO and I heard a lot about her amazing summer against top players in country. If Strings wants to be a top player in the 10th she needs to show more against the top teams in the 10th. And she needs to play well against top competition in the summer and have offers from colleges to play. Till then she’s outside my top 10.

When I saw Ryle play last year I thought Schwartz and McGregor were as vital and as good as Scherr. It is going to be tough sledding without those two. I think Ryle is like Harrison County with Kellione last year. One great player but not enough to make a huge impact. Nothing against the cast surrounding Scherr at Ryle but when I’ve watched them play IMO they were just ok. Take Scherr out of the game like we did last year and make it a game. NDA almost beat Ryle last year in the region with Schwartz and McGregor! So in my opinion I think Ryle could win the region but I think Highlands is the favorite. It’s been awhile since crosstown foe Bishop Brossart has started the season ranked ahead of the Lady Camels! IMO it’s wishful thinking. I know Campbell sustained a tough loss to close the season but the Lady Camels have a strong veteran group to lead the team this year. I’d have them ranked 3rd in the region to start and they have a decent chance to play spoiler and upset GRC or Scott this season. GRC lost too much and Scott is unproven. Keifer is a fine player but one dimensional. Tall and tough to stop near the basket. Brossart won’t have the shooters to take the pressure off enough this season IMO. Who has “moved in”?

Yes. Has been more for years. And significantly more the next two seasons

Seygan Robins did it but it’s probably rare. Erin Boley’s Team was heavily favored but was upset. Last one before that was probably Makayla Epps. Ryle loses too much to really contend. GRC has all star youth coming up in addition to solid upperclassmen. I see them contending. GRC, Sacred Heart, Mercy or Southwestern. Mark my words, one of these four teams will win the state this year.

There could be things I’m not aware of but from what I’ve heard from folks is that he stepped down on his own. Some outside of Alexandria might not care for his style and passion but within Camelland it was embraced.

Campbell County coach Beau Menefee has stepped down from coaching the Lady Camels after five seasons. His five year stretch was the most successful five year period in Campbell County girls history! Best of luck to Coach Menefee in his next endeavor!

Just to be clear, I’m not saying Boyd was not a good team. They were a great team actually, top 25 in the state probably. But not top 10 in my opinion. I was looking forward to the LIT because it was a great chance to see where Boyd stood against the best Kentucky teams. Boyd County with Wheeler beat every single Kentucky team they played including Ryle. But why do you think every ranker in Kentucky always ranked them below Ryle and others, and not #1 or #2? I’m not the only one with this opinion. They were getting ranked in the top 5 because rankers had no reason to not rank them there because of their record. Like a non power5 school that has a great record and it’s hard to know where they fit. My opinion this whole season has been that they were being over ranked. They are not big enough. Rely on 1-2 players too much. Rely on 3ball too much. Any good coach with some talent could stop them. In my opinion the Male game showed this to be true. Without their leading scorer Male handled Boyd without issue. Not even a close game. Boyd’s shooting percentage wasn’t unlucky either, it was forced by good defensive pressure on the shooters so they had to attempt more difficult shots.

Sorry, don’t mean to strike a nerve. Just my opinion. I will address each of your arguments. Making it deep in the state means little cause there’s no seeding. Losing to a good out of state team certainly doesn’t mean your good. Beating Mercer County who lost every key player and lost first round of their region absolutely means nothing. (And also Boyd had to go to overtime to beat them) Dixie is an average team, never once ranked in top 25. And despite upsets in their regional tournament would still be considered the 4th best team in their region. I understand that it’s hard to schedule tougher games where your located but that doesn’t change anything. If Boyd loses that overtime game against Mercer County or doesn’t get “lucky” (my opinion based on shooting percentages) against Ryle and Highlands they never crack the top 10 in anyone’s rankings all season.

Boyd has been probably over ranked all year, so there was more pressure on them to do well at state than reasonable. They shot way over their average against Ryle and Highlands in Lexington and suddenly they're a top team in state. With their schedule they were not prepared for teams like Male, who even without Browning, punished them inside. Live by the 3, die by the 3.

Really? There is a HUGE difference. A huge difference for the kid! The player who has earned being a top team in the state. If you read what we were discussing, its about what good for the kids. Its all over twitter right now too because a Wyatt Foust, girls coach at Murray, commented about the "unfairness" of the current set up. I am fine with you wanting to keep it the way it is because you are a Sweet 16 purist/traditional guy, but you have to acknowledge the lack of fairness for the kids who work their tails off all year to be a top 10 team only to get to the Sweet 16 only and be punished by playing a top team. Its more fair for the second best team to be in the other side of the bracket than the best team. Thats why every single college or professional or AAU or anything non high school does seeding in tournaments. This is not rocket science.
