  1. The AAU culture is what I was talking about. In your response, you basically made my point for me..."a lot of kids usually switched AAU teams multiple times". My point is that everyone involved (parents, AAU guys, HS coaches) are to blame for jerking these kids around. They tell them what they want to hear, instead of what they NEED to hear. This kid, and I will freely admit that I don't know him at all, has been to 3 schools in 2 years. The adults are the main engine behind this, and that is killing that kid's present and future. You don't think college coaches, some not all, look at 3 schools in 2 years...soon to be 4, see that situation and put that kids' info either on the bottom of the list or throw it away all together? Parents and HS/AAU coaches that promote all this endless transferring are all doing it for selfish reasons for the most part...now, sometimes a transfer situation works out for everyone, but it's getting too common where most times it doesn't. It hurts the kids and the game.
  2. Whatever happened to penalties for transferring for non-legitimate reasons? This is one (of many) way AAU has hurt/changed the game. These kids up and leave a school whenever they don't get their way, or their AAU people find a better fit for them. Could also be a big reason why the level of play is way down in this state. I could go on and on, but this is my biggest pet peeve with high school sports these days.
  3. Coach Just probably coached circles around that guy at Waggener.
  4. Crews is probably the best pure coach in the 6th region. How can he run football players off when they are still in their season? I'm pretty sure if football/basketball players decide not to play basketball, then it probably means they know there won't be much playing time for them and they may as well concentrate on football. Desales will always be in the hunt and very tough to beat with Crews there.
  5. I just think any 6th region Top 10 that doesn't list PRP in any year is ridiculous. Like them or not, no matter what kind of talent Mabry has, his teams are always tough to deal with. I think Desales would be higher than 10 just based on having Crews. His kids constantly overachieve and he may be the best coach in the 6th region as well. Moore and Southern IMO are way too high for a preseason ranking. Bottom feeders the last few years, so what has changed to put them ahead of PRP and Desales?
  6. HS coaching seems to have become "who can you get in, or get to transfer", rather than actual coaching ability. Some schools and coaches get transfers every year and never win a thing. There's also entitled kids that want everything handed to them and transfer multiple times. To be honest, AAU has fed this transfer monster because kids bounce from AAU team to AAU team like crazy just to get what they want. I think the whole scene in Louisville basketball has gone down in terms of coaching and development. I could be wrong, but that's what I see from a distance.
  7. I went to the National AAU tournament in Louisville last year, and from what I saw most of the coaching was a joke. There's a reason why there's a running gag trend on Twitter making fun of AAU coaches. Now, that's not saying all of them are bad and all high school coaches are great. High school coaching has gone down considerably in recent years, and may have AAU to thank for some of that. It's all about getting kids & talent, which AAU drives that train, and less about actual X's and O's and teaching the game.
  8. Terms?? What kind of terms are there for high school coaches? Isn't it either take it or leave it? Male seems to be making this a total trainwreck of a process. Seems to be the norm for JCPS anymore though.
  9. Has to be the strangest job opening in a long time...meaning the amount of rumors, the length of time and still haven't found a coach, etc. My guess is with the transfer & recruiting culture that is so prevalent now in high school sports, that no one wants to go there because that's harder to do. But that's just simply a guess in the dark...
  10. Whose name hasn't been mentioned for Male's job? Can they have a reality show contest to see who'll get it? :lol2:
  11. I think Billy Donovan is taking over at Butler, Shaka Smart at Male, and Richard Pitino at J'town. Geez, rumors are crazy. Sorry, just had to poke a little fun at all of this...no malice intended.
  12. I don't know if I would leave a college job for Butler HS. I'm just saying that sounds far fetched.
  13. I'm curious about these as well. Other than Renner being mentioned on this thread about going to Male, there hasn't been any other buzz. Do any of these schools have assistants that might move up, or are there any coaches from out in the state looking to come to Louisville?
  14. Post the score and location of the game but this author wanted to leave the school's name out of it because he hadn't talked to them "yet"?? I'm not saying it didn't happen, but this story is awfully one sided, and has been unknown until now?? Seems to me that if there were lock down procedures, cops called, police escorts in the gym, then this story would've gotten out 3 months ago. Again, I could be 100% wrong, but I always look at things skeptically I guess.
  15. Coaches can get up and leave at anytime to go to a "better" situation without any repercussion, so why shouldn't the kids be allowed to??
  16. That's interesting. That coach hasn't been there long has he? Male and Butler both open. I wonder who's the top choices for those jobs.
  17. Owensboro was a matchup nightmare for everyone in the state. There aren't too many teams around that can handle one 6'10 guy, but then they also have a 6'8 270lb kid also??? That's tough to beat, and tough to prepare for within the Sweet 16 with zero practice time. They may not have been the best team all season per se, but they were best equipped team to win the state and they did.
  18. Why would anyone make that move? It wouldn't be for more money or more talent, or easier region. I would be shocked if this move were to happen.
  19. It will definitely be interesting to watch from afar to see any and all changes in Jefferson County. Keep us updated if you hear anything on any school.
  20. I think I know which one you're talking about in the 7th. Honestly, it doesn't surprise me if we're on the same page here. He may be looking to move up levels...
  21. This is a bold statement considering only 4 schools were left playing as of yesterday and all their coaches are either in their 1st or 2nd year there, not counting Crews' and Blackburns' first stints at those programs obviously.
