  1. Oh nevermind...was typing that as the previous post was entered.
  2. Does anyone know anything about the out of state teams? Any top players?
  3. HaHa...yeah, it looks like they did great. You know, since the kid is actually playing somewhere right now and all.
  4. How come no one has mentioned the "adults" jerking these kids from place to place. I realize every situation is different, but these kids are being told some misleading information and letting them bounce around like they're free agents.
  5. A lot of coaches, with the game comfortably in hand (no matter when that occurs throughout the game), will take starters out so as not to risk injury. It also allows younger and less experienced kids to get some valuable game minutes under their belts. I don't think it's because they are soft. The really good coaches that want to build a sustained program will do that for the future of the program. To me, what are you proving by leaving your starters in if you are blowing a team out? And I respectfully disagree about "wait until the other coach pulls his starters"...I simply say this because as a coach, your job is coach your program and not worry about what the other coach is doing. Maybe that other coach has things he wants to see out of his starters, maybe he doesn't have a deep bench, etc. This is just my opinion though.
  6. The KHSAA says that a student must be passing two/thirds of his/her classes and be on continued progress during the school year. For each year, an athlete has to have earned a set amount of credits and be on pace to graduate in 4 years. This is a basic explanation. Each school board has set parameters as far as GPA, but schools can set their own as mentioned above.
  7. I just don't get that. It amazes me how many coaches just coach "their" style no matter the personnel. And of course, I say this with little knowledge of Eminence's program...but to me, if you're not deep, then pressing is kinda like having a baseball team full of slap hitters and trying to get them to hit home runs every time haha
  8. So, with limited depth, Eminence pressed all night? Is that what I'm gathering?
  9. That's crazy...why would you quit after practice had already started??
  10. I wouldn't take much stock into what the Cats Pause says about any region. But I do think it's funny watching coaches, parents and fans get their feelings hurt by random pre-season rankings. I would say it's pretty damn hard to do any kind of season preview anymore because of the tons and tons of transfers that are occurring everywhere...(might be a reason why the quality of play in this state is way down too)
  11. HA!! If that were only the case. Unfortunately, most schools are making their hires now based on what kid or couple kids can they get in via transfer from AAU connections. That's probably why the state of KY is lacking major talent...because transfers, AAU and the constant merry go round of players and coaches leave little room for skill and program development and it shows.
  12. How many transfers did he get into Casey County?
  13. Any names floating on this one? I would think a ton of people will apply.
  14. Unfortunately, @Basketballfan2 is right. Just by reading articles online in the CJ, you can see where kids are transferring at will. Doss had ton (to and from), J'town, Moore, PRP, Fern Creek, Ballard, and on and on and on. It's becoming a joke. HS coaches are more worried about who they can get in from wherever than developing a strong, consistent program. Jefferson County has let this happen, KHSAA has let it happen, parents, coaches, AAU frontmen...you name it.
  15. Didn't he live with the coach of Taylor Co.? These kids change schools like I change the oil in my car...once a year! :lol2:
  16. Seems very quiet across the state so far...especially in Louisville.
  17. Man, that seems like a ton of openings? Hasn't there been quite a turnover in Louisville the last few years already? How many jobs, typically, come open each year throughout the state?
  18. Haha True true...I can admit when I'm wrong. I was shocked when I saw that score this morning. Crews is as good as they come, I just didn't think they'd have a shot based on their record and some of the scores I saw. But, this time of year, anything can happen.
  19. There are, in my opinion, many reasons why it seems officiating is worse now than it was in years past. 1.) Social media and forums like this one polarizes everything instantly. Outside of games that you are witnessing or a part of, how often did you hear about officiating of other games throughout the state 15 years ago? Rarely, if ever, unless you were coaching or officiating. Now, EVERYONE sees stuff written about games and officiating, etc. 2) There are more games nowadays. There's more JV games, Freshman games, JV and Freshman tournaments, Middle school basketball is more widespread now and they play more games as well. This stretches the officiating crews very thin and thus causes a need for more officials with less qualifications. 3) The game has changed. Basic fundamentals are not taught as much as they should be and this junks up the game and makes it very hard for officials to call a great game. I've seen some games so handsy and physical that if the refs called everything, it would take 3 hours to play. Blockouts are very uncommon now, which leads to a lot of pushing, grabbing, and jumping on or over people for a rebound...More teams press now than they ever have, and defenses for some are more complex than in the past. This makes consistent officiating very difficult as well. 4) I think with the economy changing, yes, you get more guys that are simply doing it for the money and aren't trying to learn the game and get better. And one bad official in a crew sticks out way more than one good one. These are my opinions on the subject. I think there are some very good officiated games as always, but I think everything being magnified with the internet puts a bigger spotlight on the bad officiated games. Those have always been around. And very rarely will you find a coach that blames a loss totally on officiating.
  20. PRP wins this region. Mabry is by far the best coach of the 4-5 contending teams.
  21. I would venture a guess and say most, if not all, of these coaches couldn't care less about these awards. If you get into coaching for personal awards, then you're doing it for the wrong reasons. In high school sports, most awards are political and name recognition anyway. I'd say any coach worth his salt would much rather win 10 region titles as compared to 4 or 5 COY awards.
  22. I blamed all three. Take out the words "AAU Culture," fine, and just describe it as a selfish, entitled culture with varied suspects to blame. To be honest, the parents are the most to blame. I'm definitely not going to sit here and say that high school coaches aren't to blame either. The recruiting, and attitude of "I have to have the top 10 players in the state so I can win" has become ridiculous. I watch a lot of high school games, and there are tons of guys that coach their way out of a paper bag, but yet they get in 2-3 transfers every year to mask that inability. Needless to say, it's crazy how many kids switch teams/schools nowadays.
