@Purple88great point about Owensboro scheduling- to which you have been saying for years. O scrimmaged Mayfield, Boyle and Central Hardin. They played BG, CAL and Ocath. That’s what prepared them for SW. Atherton has had a phenomenal season. I think they will compete early, especially with a very defense in rebuild mode and missing starters. Atherton has good athletes. I think they will be somewhat in shock by the power if the Owensboro offense though. I’ll roll 35-21 Owensboro.

Mayfield will not lay down for anyone. Playing in the heart of Graves County at War Memorial is a tough venue. That said I think LCA has a more high flying offense, Mayfield counters that with good speed across the field. I think Mayfield slows the game down but can’t match offense to offense. But, I think Mayfield gets a special teams/defensive TD or 2. Mayfield scores late, goes for 2 and gets it. Cards in a last minute upset 29-28.

Coopers. That’s probably just a function of I know Owensboro’s team and don’t know Coopers.

Yes because it was dominant. Young team with many defensive starters out- I agree. Although that Douglass team would have killed this South team.

I say yes. Play calls, execution, game plan, adjustments. Entire staff deserves big time praise. This is a very young and rebuilding squad - we all knew it.

As much crap as everyone has given them (rightly so). They got several stops tonight, punt block, 2 or 3 4th down stops, forced punts. Excellent job defense

I’ve thought all season that there is no elite defense in 5A - lots of good offense but no elite D.

I’m guessing Hampton had over 200 yards rushing. Heck he had a 35 yard TD called back with a late flag way behind the play. I would guess O had 250 yards rushing. Gave up a dumb snap safety. Fumbled going in for another score - that was gifted right back by SW with a fumble on the 5 returned for a 95 yard run. O just seemed to be a bad matchup for South.
