The Cardinals graduate 14 seniors from a talented squad that was good enough to contend for another state championship. But, instead, were knocked out by the eventual state champions in the third round. While this may be celebrated at some places, it is not viewed as successful in Mayfield. This has led to some movement by some experienced players out of the program. Not sure what the issue is, but the Big Red needs to figure it out.

Coming back for 2026 is another group of talented athletes. Gray Robbins will be back for his senior year as quarterback. This is a big plus for the Cardinals as Gray was consistently good and only threw one interception the entire season. Josiah England will be back as the lead ball carrier, and hopefully he can stay healthy because he is a dangerous weapon for the Cardinal offense. The question will again be the offensive line. If Mayfield can put together an effective offensive line, they have the skill players to contend for another title.

The only place for players to move to that has even a shred of reason in it is Paducah Tighlman. No other program in W Ky makes sense.

Who has left the program?

Microwave society? Foolish to chase the shiny toy when Mayfield is the Standard in Western Ky.

I haven't heard of any players actually leaving just a bunch of threatening to leave.  How many starters is Mayfield returning on each side of the ball?  I thought they lost a majority of their WR and Secondary as well as the entire DL.

That’s the problem. We are not sure yet if some players are returning. I have heard from more than one very reliable source that two of our players have left (or are going to leave). So, we will have to update this thread as we find out.

One more thing, the cupboard is not bare. There are good young players just waiting to get their chance to start on Friday nights.

No doubt on the talent at Mayfield and I am expecting the "Josiah England Show" this year. ?

That district schedule is gonna make it hard for the cards to crack the top 3 in RPI. Unless some of the other big ones stumble out of the gate with some losses or are upset at some point during the season. 6 team districts hurt when they aren’t competitive.
