Hearing rumblings something's coming soon.

In the past 20 years there have only been 2 of 40 finals participants that would qualify as All A participants as well (Shelby Valley in 2010 and Paintsville in 1998). Only 6 total of the 40 would be classified in the current football alignment as 3A or less, including Lexington Catholic and E'town who both already had a "Sweet 16 pedigree". Since that 1976 Edmonson Co team the numbers are even more staggering. 3 finals for Lex Cath (3A), 2 for Paintsville, 1 each for Louisville Central (3A), E'town (3A) University Heights, and Shelby Valley (which had enrollment over 1,000 students in the early 2000's). 9 "small school" finals appearances out of 80 totals finals participants. The past 5 years finals have features 6-6A schools and 4-5A schools if my math is correct. I wonder what the vote would be now?

Right now if you have a 28 game schedule, a 16 team region, and are in a 4 team district you really only have 6 games that matter. Truly only those 6 district games for seeding purpose count because tournament success is how your season is judged in the end. If you are unfortunate enough to be in one of the remaining blind draw districts then only 1 game really matters and that's the district opener. March Madness (including late February for high school). You want to build excitement around team all year? Scrap the 4 team district and play each team in the region once thru the year. You just made 15 of your 28 games mean something to both the players and the fans. You get to host 7-8 "district seeding" games per year. Set up boy/girl double headers when travel would allow for it increase the attendance at games. I bet those "old" district games are still heated contests because the vast majority are border county schools or even inter county/city for bragging rights.

I think you mean shouldn't be in the 16th and yes I agree. They are a 10th region team.

The state is full of district and regional folklore from years gone by. Epic district battles in front of standing room only crowds deep in the mountains and Cinderella buzzer beaters...but those days are almost gone. It is time to seriously sit down and look at a new basketball alignment for the entire state. As much as many would like to to be "like the old days" it simply is not nor will ever return to those days. I am much more familiar with the eastern half of the state but you may get all of Franklin County back. Something has to give. Fayette is set to open the 9th overall high school in the county this fall. Rumors continue for a 2nd high school in Scott County. There are 4 in Madison Co. The population of the state is shifting to the golden triangle between Lexington, Louisville, and NKY more and more each day from the eastern part of the state. Shelby Valley's enrollment in the late 90's was near 1,200 students. It now sits at just less than half that. Ashland Blazer and Boyd County were 4A schools in the old football alignment in the late 80's and 90's. They are now mid size 4A with 6 classes. Those are just a few examples. There are many more schools of legend that arent even around now. Wayland with King Kelly Coleman. Virgie with Todd May. M.C. Napier. Warfield. Elkhorn City playing their way out of 2 feet of snow in March 1993 to play in the Sweet 16 just a couple of days later. The only constant in the world is change. It is time to look at the options.

I actually think baseball may be the best sport the region has. There are many competitive teams from top to bottom and in every district and it is producing some players at the next level.

No but if it hits those rocks by the way it looks it's going to scuff them up pretty bad.

Will be interested to see the actual stats but in watching this game I feel like Bath County literally shot 30% from the floor. Bath Co was down 19 in the 4th and went off for about 3 minutes and cut the lead to 2 with 6 seconds left.

Sounds like Russell had a good night and Bracken had a bad night and they happened to be playing each other. I would also venture to say Bracken was ready to go home too. Reading way to much into BOTH TEAMS with a this game.

It is going to a 3 night event but I have not seen the new schedule. It would have been announced at the banquet recently. Does anyone have the schedule?
