After watching the SK/Lafayette game on the Internet Lafayette had a tv and would watch replays while the defense or offense would be resting. I never seen a team have a TV on the sideline and watching plays is against the rules? I'm surprised this was never brought up when everyone was watching the game.

It is not against the rules anymore. Hudl has a new program called Hudl Sideline and I think you will see more and more doing it in the near future.

This technology has been legal for a few years now at high school level, this was first year that it was legal in college. At Fern Creek we used Hudl Sideline, it was the first year Hudl offered it to public, had a limited beta in 2015 ( we applied were not selected). When it worked it was great, but it was buggy with connectivity issues and we had issues with the streaming kit from the endzone cam, had 3 go bad on us, but Hudl does ship you free replacement.

Hudl Sideline is an add on to their normal service, While almost everyone uses Hudl ( our only opponent in last 4 years that doesn't is DeSales) not many have adopted Hudl Sideline yet.

There are other companies with same or similar service, Edge Replay, Smart Video Replay, and Echo are a few.

I've seen quite a few teams either use TV's or more commonly, Ipads for replay purposes. As was mentioned, it's been legal for a few years now. HUDL sideline is very buggy and frustrating to use. Sky Coach is another company that provides the service, and works very well.

Maybe the visiting team should have their qb take a throw at the home teams TV.

Boyle uses an IPad or a tablet of some type to do the same thing with Hudl Sideline.

Other teams using Ipads is probably why I never noticed this on any other sideline.

Yes, how Hudl Sideline works is you record on an iOS device either iPad or iPhone. You can use that devices camera or have video streamed from your existing camera(s). Then it streams out from the recording device to other iOS device up to 8 viewing devices depending on your package. To hook to a tv you have to connect the iPad to a tv from a dongle, or stream via airplay to an attached Apple TV.

 

At Fern Creek we got the premium kit, we use our existing endzone and Pressbox cameras, but hook up Teradek streaming kits to both that stream hdmi video streams to the recording iPad (my iPad Pro 9.7 inch) and then my iPad Pro streams out to the coaches iPads in the Pressbox and on sideline. We use 4 iPads to view, 2 in Pressbox for the two coaches on headsets, and 2 more on sideline. We sometimes used a 25" pc monitor and connected to one of the iPads via the vga adapter for ipad

I noticed this in a game that I was at in Tenn. That was the first that I had seen of the TV's on the side line. But like WestDanville said, Boyle started using them this season and they seem to like them. Would be surprised if you start seeing them more and more team using them.
