Only people who don't truly understand high school football and coaching are bashing the staff. This team isn't as good as the Tyler Morris class but they do remind me of them a lot in the fact that there is talent... it's just talent that hasn't seen a varsity field. Coach Borchers and his staff will get this team going and they will develop nicely as the year goes along.. but you already know that! Glad to see the Jags getting better every week!

Did the players ask why they were benched? I'm guessing not. I'm going to call the bluff on whoever told you that as well seeing as every time Coach Borchers made a change, he told the players why. EVERY TIME. As for it being a paid job.. do you know how much coaches make? Here I'll tell you. I had 8 years of coaching experience, was a coordinator, and I received a pre tax lump sum of... ready for it?! $4,100. After taxes, I cleared 2,400. Coaches lose money coaching. They do it because they love it. They do it to impact kids lives. When I left coaching I wanted to know that one day, a kid would go through a hard time but come out on top because of the values they learned in football. This is a young team that will take its lumps and end up being very good down the road but they need support from parents. Remember this is high school ball, let the kids have fun and make memories playing and EARNING their right to step in between the white lines.

You seem to have great ideas, you should present them to Coach Borchers... I will put my two cents in though, if you want the opinion of a former coach that is. First off lets get this out there-if you are a junior or senior and you pout because you lost your spot and you don't fight with everything you have to earn it back, you deserve to sit. You shouldn't even be on special teams in my opinion. Coaches game plan everything and after coaching with Coach Borchers for 8 years at Cooper, and being with some of the current coaches on this staff, you literally have no idea what you're talking about if you think these guys aren't gameplanning and sticking to it. I have seen Coach Borchers make changes on Thursdays before a game with personnel... and 100% of the time it was an effort/attitude issue with a player. Do you want to know what can kill a program? Parents that don't buy in. Parents that think Jimmy or Joey should be playing because they see with their hearts and not their eyes. I'm no longer associated with the Cooper program as I'm out of coaching all together, and what I say doesn't reflect what the Cooper coaches feel. But I can tell you this, if you think you have the answers, get into coaching. Put in the multitude of hours that go into developing kids, studying film, being away from your family... and do it all so people can get on a forum and bash every move you make while essentially knowing 0% of your game plan or what you're trying to accomplish. To any players who get on here and read this, buy into your coach, buy into the program, and buy into the pride that comes with wearing the Jaguar uniform. This is a program that in ten years has accomplished more than some programs have accomplished in thirty. If you've lost your spot, earn it back. If you've won a spot, don't give it up. You have one of the top head football coaches in the state leading you with a staff that will work as hard as possible to make you successful. And So my post is on topic with the thread... Tough loss for the Jags. Great win for NCC. Cooper is very young right now. They'll have these growing pains this year but if the kids buy in and believe I expect this team to pick up towards the end of the year and carry that over to next season.

Is Coach Burnett still coaching at Beechwood? I know he went back last year, if so, I'll have to stop by a game and say hello.

They could do that... but with how well I know Coach Borchers and his staff, they'll probably break down film, come up with a game plan, and then decide what's going to work best to beat NCC. If that's getting the ball to Perry, hey! I'll bet we see that. If it's getting the ball to someone else, that's what they'll do. Fortunately, knowing what I know about Cooper and the offense, everyone on the field will eventually have an opportunity to make plays for the team.

Wow. Good for Jim, I worked for his wife at the Rec center at NKU and really got to know Jim and the family because of that. Amazing family in my opinion and happy for the success that Jim has had. So now two of the top division 2 coaches have stepped away as coaches in Rob Stoll at Turpin and Jim at Lasalle.

I've heard there are a few alumni that currently coach in the area that could be interested.

These games are always fantastic. I'm taking Cooper by 14.... but they don't get that lead until late. Go Jags!

Lol. This post is fantastic. I'm not even the worlds biggest Lickert fan but you're so off base it's not even funny. The guy was successful at Dayton and Holmes... two very tough schools to be successful at. Lickert isn't going anywhere, the guy can coach. Just might be having a tough two seasons.

Sounds like a good ole fashioned Ludlow Bellevue game. Doesn't really ever seem to disappoint.

But here's the thing... as a parent, you don't know that those aren't the best 11 out there. You aren't at practice everyday evaluating players. You aren't watching hours of film deciding how to improve or what to do with players to make them better. Just because you've known some of these kids their whole life and have watched them through pee wee doesn't mean you're fit to evaluate a football program. Highlands was outmatched. You don't lose by 20+ and say a few changes or adjustments would have fixed it. Covcath is a very good football team, and they put it to Highlands. Eddie is a great football coach and he's getting CovCath where they should be as a program. Schools are going to have up and down years, it's okay it's part of the game.

Absolutely not. Covcath is a very good team and they are loaded at the freshman level as well. Personally I think a high school coach should not be fired over W/L unless they are losing complete control of the team. I haven't seen Highlands this year, but as far as I know they are just outmatched.

So... does Highlands head man survive this year?
