Solid hire for Bath County in my opinion. Not sure if the timing was right with Pike Central just officially coming open yesterday if he would have been interested to make that jump over there to be able to stay in Pikeville, but that is neither here not there now. I do believe from a very reliable source that he also has family in the area around Bath County, that may have also helped somewhat.

He said he wanted to spend more time with his family as well as pursue a degree in admin to make his way towards being a principal.

What obstacles are out there for them to overcome outside of the obvious creation of the new school Thomas Nelson High School? Do athletics have the support from the school, district, leadership, superintendent? etc................

My experience with Ohio transfers has been eye opening. I have had several students transfer from my school to Ohio & I never received paperwork on any of them. I called the AD of the new school about the first kid that transferred & asked if I needed to fill out anything for them & they said "No, its an out of state transfer, as long as they provide factual info to the receiving school that they have indeed made a move & can show a water/power bill, etc..... they are ok" It blew my mind honestly since I had to jump through 20 hoops to get a kid cleared from Cali to here..... like he was gonna fly in every morning from there to here or something. :no:

Not saying you're wrong with experiences that you have seen, but I have been in several appeals hearings of transfers that were ruled ineligible with the student-athlete, their parents & attorney were present & were still denied. Like I stated though, just from my experiences.

Then the sending school is not doing their due diligence with their end of the paperwork on the transfers then if it is seen as "at will" I'm just saying its pretty simple to do these days & I am talking about paying attention to the details. In my former life as an AD, I included social media posts or emails in transfer paperwork on student-athletes who were boasting about leaving school A to transfer to school B because 1) I'm not getting enough playing time, 2) the coach of the school B team was my summer coach, 3) emails from parents saying they were going to leave our school to play @ another school.... It was astonishing to me honestly the amount of info they would put out there in all its glory for everyone to see.

I give the KHSAA credit for what they get done with the limited resources they have with the commissioner, 4 associate commissioners 5 administrative assistants, & a few other staff (staff attorney, communications, IT media, etc.... to do what they are able to do at the moment. When full implementation of the Middle Schools comes under their scope, who knows what they are going to do at that point. All in all, they have 2 associate commissioners that handle ALL of the transfers throughout the entire state, 1 handles Regions 1-8 & the other does 9-16. They go with what they receive from the sending & receiving schools with each transfer. The sending school can include as much evidence as it wants to include in a transfer if they want to contest a transfer if they feel that it is being done for athletic advantage.

I find this very hard to believe honestly. Any student-athlete that has made a name for themselves & is recognized as being a varsity member of school A will not be able just to go & play for school B without the KHSAA approving the transfer. I know that this state is crazy about basketball @ all levels, but it still isn't the wild west where we can do whatever we want. The public would police this better than anyone & before the ink is dry on an enrollment sheet, someone would have dropped a dime on them & called the powers that be.

With the family ties that he has within the Pikeville community, I will find it hard for the "natives" to get rid of him over something like this, he would have to royally screw something up for them to jettison him this soon.

They have not hired anyone for the new school, including the administrative team. They had someone within the district help with the 2017-2018 football schedule since the school will open fall of 2017 & scheduling was occurring currently for that two year rotation.

This is correct. He will be returning to coach.

Thanks to everyone who has given Sweet 16 updates for the games on BGP, it is much appreciated. I attended the late game on Wednesday night & it was a barn burner to say the least & probably the only game I will be able to catch this week.

Collins High missed the boat by not naming their mascot the Governors or Trailblazers (1st woman governor of KY)

yeah, there is no timeline for a name as of now. The elementary schools that will open in the fall of 2016 were just named a few months ago, so I would say that it will be closer to the fall/winter of this year before a name is decided upon. I can almost guarantee it wont be Fayette County High School, lol.

All of the high schools will shift attendance areas somewhat, but the majority of the students will come from Henry Clay & Bryan Station @thehotsnakes

My thoughts in no certain order Color Schemes Midnight Blue / Baby Blue / White Black / Orange / White Purple / Gold / White Forest Green / Orange / White Mascot Names Monarchs Royals Racers Thoroughbreds If anyone has any thoughts, add them onto the thread.

So far there has been no public discussion on a name/colors/mascot, etc....... Back when Dunbar was being built, I was told that the school colors & mascot were chosen by a student vote that poled kids that would be attending the school, BUT that could be not true, I wasn't around during that time. Not sure what, they will do this time in regards to naming/colors/mascots, hopefully if its someone from the district, they have a little aesthetic sense to them & pick a good color scheme. :thumb:

you are correct @gchs_uk9 they will be in that district. They have yet to hire a principal for that school. I am seriously doubting that they have outside facilities completed for the opening as well, & if so they will be the Fayette County Travelin (insert mascot name here). The school will have 2 gyms, which is impressive by many standards for FCPS.

I have nothing to offer on this other than an opinion since I know absolutely nothing about the facts in this case, but 99% of the time, once you leave under a circumstance like this, the ship has sailed. This isn't the same situation like a Chuck Smith leaving Boyle Co. to go to UK, then come back to Boyle Co. & be welcomed with open arms. Being let go, whether its being fired or forced to resign is a totally different situation altogether. Only way that I would even think about going back into my former position is if the administration team was completely gone from there & I resigned on my own with no pressure from the top to do it, just their micro-management style & overall lack of athletic department inner-workings (even though they were all former coaches) was too much for me to keep on being miserable under their leadership.

You are correct, for what reason it escapes me, but Coach Mays has been trying to get into Kentucky for quite some time.

@FBI, who would you have rather played for then? The previous coach possibly?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ i will just say good luck with that. He can hire 11 assistant coaches for his team in Fayette County. He can even bring all 11 from Greenup County. But I bet he wont have all 11 in that building, he will be lucky to have 1 or 2, & I am betting just 1 if any.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^cant hire people for positions that you don't have places to put them in a school. Having worked in FCPS schools, honestly there is very little movement of staff from many of the schools year-to-year. Couple that with tenure & job openings are slim to none, even @ the large 6A 175+ teacher schools. Unless those assistant coaches are willing to work as a para, instead of a classroom teacher, its not easy. Much easier to fit them into another school in the county (not the best situation for them to be around the student-athletes during the day, but with 37 elementary schools, 11 middle schools & soon to be 6 high schools, there are jobs out there......just probably not @ "that" school for an entire staff. I coached a varsity level sport as an assistant in Fayette County with 5 other coaches & not one of us worked @ the school we coached for.
