Open Job: Greenup County

Featured Replies

Coach Mullins told his players today he was leaving Greenup to coach at Lexington Dunbar High school. Hate to hear it because Greenup County is going to have one of there best season in years for 2016.

Hate to hear this but they need to start the hiring process soon. They need to build a relationship with the new coach and staff. It's a possibility that a few of Mullins staff members are headed down 64 with him. I hope the team stays strong and looks to each other during this time of transition because when it comes down to it, it's that team of brothers that put the work in and sacrifice for each other on the field. Other than that it's X's and O's....

This is a tough blow to a program that's starting to gain some traction. Greenup County is a difficult program to win at and Mullins looked to be building a perennial winner(something the Musketeers have never been on the gridiron). Hopefully, the next coach can step right in and keep the forward momentum going.

Good Luck to Coach Mullins and also to Greenup County on their hire. Hopefully they hire a coach who will continue to help Greenup get better. I like the close games we've saw recently against Greenup when we play them, much better than some of the blowouts in the past.

Hopefully Dunbar gives him the opportunity to bring in some assistants but that's very doubtful

If Dunbar allows Coach Mullins to bring someone with him that would be a major surprise. Fayette Co is notorious for not working with coaches to bring in assistants. Have talked to many coaches in various sports stating the struggle.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^cant hire people for positions that you don't have places to put them in a school. Having worked in FCPS schools, honestly there is very little movement of staff from many of the schools year-to-year. Couple that with tenure & job openings are slim to none, even @ the large 6A 175+ teacher schools. Unless those assistant coaches are willing to work as a para, instead of a classroom teacher, its not easy. Much easier to fit them into another school in the county (not the best situation for them to be around the student-athletes during the day, but with 37 elementary schools, 11 middle schools & soon to be 6 high schools, there are jobs out there......just probably not @ "that" school for an entire staff.

I coached a varsity level sport as an assistant in Fayette County with 5 other coaches & not one of us worked @ the school we coached for.

Great Post and agreed jobs out there because more and more people don't want to teach and coach.

I was told he can bring his own staff.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ i will just say good luck with that. He can hire 11 assistant coaches for his team in Fayette County. He can even bring all 11 from Greenup County. But I bet he wont have all 11 in that building, he will be lucky to have 1 or 2, & I am betting just 1 if any.

This is a terrible loss for GC. Coach Mullins got a lot out of his players even though he didn't have a lot of overall talent to work with. His focus on defense really turned Greenup around, their D was the real deal and made up for the lack of firepower on the other side of the ball.

On the other hand, Dunbar made a great hire. Mullins could do some really big things with the talent pool Dunbar has walking the halls as long as he can get the kids to buy into his system. If the kids buy into the defense first philosophy they could jump up pretty quick in the Lexington 6A region, where defense seems to be an afterthought.

Hopefully Greenup can recover from this and keep the momentum going. They were really starting to turn the corner in my opinion. I'm not sure who is out there this late in the game that would be a good hire, but I hope they find him. If they don't make a good hire and have a bad season this year it would be devastating to what they have built on the past couple of years.

Good luck to coach Mullins but he isn't nick Saban buddy lol

Good hire for Dunbar. I hate it for Greenup, I remember a few years ago when Mullins was in the hot seat. A couple of years later and building a winning program, he's a hot commodity. Good luck to the Musketeers and good luck, Coach Mullins.

Thank's captain obvious, lol. He is a great high school coach though and I'm curious what he can do with more talent/athletes at hand. Either way it's a big blow to Greenup.
