Does Bell County wish they could turn back time?

Featured Replies

Given the direction this search for a new coach has gone, do the Bell County faithful wish they could just turn back time and never let Coach Mills go in the first place? What about the administration, are they to the point yet where they wish the same?

Hypothetically, if Coach Mills would agree to come back, (and I doubt he would) is that something the fans would want? What about the administration?

I have nothing to offer on this other than an opinion since I know absolutely nothing about the facts in this case, but 99% of the time, once you leave under a circumstance like this, the ship has sailed. This isn't the same situation like a Chuck Smith leaving Boyle Co. to go to UK, then come back to Boyle Co. & be welcomed with open arms. Being let go, whether its being fired or forced to resign is a totally different situation altogether.

Only way that I would even think about going back into my former position is if the administration team was completely gone from there & I resigned on my own with no pressure from the top to do it, just their micro-management style & overall lack of athletic department inner-workings (even though they were all former coaches) was too much for me to keep on being miserable under their leadership.

Define who the faithful is first.
It's high school sports, I think we all know what someone means when they say faithful.

How about taking a stab at the question?

Agreed and I rephrased the question.

This is all hypothetical. I don't have any information that says Mills would consider returning, and he probably wouldn't.

I'm just wondering if our Bell County folks are at the point where they wish they had never let him go.

The Superintendent is running this show right now and wants his guy at the helm. Problem has been "His Guy (s)" have all said no.

My understanding is that all asst coaches were told they are not to be involved in any of the offseason program. If that is the case they have Zero HS coaches and Zero Middle School coaches right now. Not good.

Right, and given those turn of events, I have to wonder if they regret firing Coach Mills in the first place.

You have multiple questions out there, but lets give it a shot.

do the Bell County faithful wish they could just turn back time and never let Coach Mills go in the first place? -- Hell yes they would rather have Coach mills back and his staff.

What about the administration, are they to the point yet where they wish the same? -- This is a two fold question. Administration in the school building (principal) Maybe, but they know darn well that if they did have Mills back, they would be out of a job. Administration at central off (Super and staff) Heck no they dont want Mills back, they would rather have (insert favorite cartoon character here) coach this team than Mills.

Coach Mills will not be coming back to Bell Co.

Right, and given those turn of events, I have to wonder if they regret firing Coach Mills in the first place.

Short answer, Hell no.

I was in Bell Co last October (they hosted the Middle School Regional Finals), great updates to the facility, Coaching staff was great, they did an awesome job hosting. However, when talking to Bell Co staff and parents you could see the tension in all of them, as they say, you could cut it with a chainsaw.

I feel bad for the previous coaching staff, but especially the players and fans.

I feel bad for the Asst. on the staff, they IMO are getting the shaft because of association. In some cases that is warranted, in this one IMO its not, its agenda based.

They did offer it back to him but he declined. I think that shows how bad this administration is.

Wow, thanks C25. I don't blame him, that would be almost impossible to accept.

That is very telling, though, and pretty much answers the questions at hand.

That brings up an interesting question I have had

Why has Bell just not promoted an Assistant to HC? If for no other reason as an "Interim" type of deal until they could properly find someone or better options opened up?

I have heard 10+ names of HC's linked to Bell and they haven't pinned one down yet. I have heard how there is no pay for Assistants and how one of the biggest hurdles to luring a coach, this would seemingly help alleviate some of those issues?

I still think Bell's biggest mis-step was "Moon Gate". To hitch your school system's wagon to the guy taking YOUR Head Coach to court said it all. That single event single handily showed all the the cards and in the process became a glowing example of why "you shouldn't coach at Bell".

To say that the powers to be at Bell has made this a goat rodeo is an understatement.

Four years ago this would be viewed as one of the pinnacle coaching gigs in KY, now Bell can't even find a candidate to give the job to.
