Call it "breathing", "emotional letdown", "hangover", "laying an egg", or whatever. The end result is the same. i thought LexCath benefited from whatever term you want to use when they played Central and when they played E'town. Conversely, they suffered the same thing against Belfry.

By your logic, LexCath loses to Lawrence County by 3 or is it 40. This whole thread is hypothetical. I think that is the point. I guess that NCC in 2A was better than any team in the west of 2A less Mayfield? I call bull. What you completely fail to see is that teams that play quality competition in consecutive weeks get worn down, and have to "breathe" somewhere. Look at Belfry's schedule (you act like you don't know it), Knoxville (9-25-15) a 38-14 win, then the next week Midland (10-2-15) a 49-7 loss in a horribly played game by Belfry, then the third week Lawrence Co (10-9-15) a 27-23 squeaker where Belfry trailed at the half, only to later throttle this same team 52-12 (can you say running clock). This shows me that after two tough matchups Belfry "breathed" against Lawrence Co the first time. I know you hate to think that anything other than Belfry being the most dominating thing since sliced bread is impossible, but that just simply isn't the case. If the teams on their side of the bracket was as tough as those on the west side, somewhere along the line Belfry would have had to "breathe" again. Does this mean they lose, definitely not. Hypothetically possible, YES. Fact is that Belfry had a cake walk to the title game, and no matter who came out of the west was going to fight tooth and nail to get there. I agree Belfry was the better team, and have said so a thousand times. But, turn the tables, and you see a much better title game in 3A just like you did in 2A.

You have a point in that LexCath won games on the field. BUT, winning a game does not necessarily make you the BETTER team. Several games every year are won by teams that were not the better of the two teams playing. Heck, I am not positive Belfry is in the title game playing out of the west.

Let's make no mistake about it. Belfry proved to be the best team in 3A in 2015. It appears they may very well be just as good, if not better, next season. I do not think any team out of the west makes a better showing in the championship game than what LexCath did, although I do not feel they were the best team in the west. Kudos to them for a coming out of a loaded bracket.

@Watusi. I feel that Central was the best team in the west. Their letdown cost them a title game appearance. Wouldn't it have been sweet to see a final 8 with Belfry, Central, LexCath, E'town,Caldwell, Boyle, PT, and Lawrence. What a playoff!!!! Opportunities to see that many good teams face off in one class are few and far between with a 6 class system.

@Watusi. Here it goes. I know I am opening myself up for bashing, but that hasn't stopped me yet. Lol. I thought that even though Belfry slammed LexCath in BG, won their way convincingly to the title, and looked totally dominating doing so that an easy path to the title game worked in their benefit in a huge way. The west was totally loaded, no doubt about it. I felt all of these teams suffered from let downs off their previous games. A problem Belfry didn't have to face. I thought Central showed it first, after a big game with Boyle Co, the looked lethargic against LexCath in their next match up. E'town was next, after the hail Mary win at Caldwell, they were sleepwalking in the semis. LexCath suffered some of the same in the title game. A bad match up for them in Belfry did nothing but enhance that. BELFRY IS A VERY DESERVING CHAMPION AND PROVED TO BE THE BETTER TEAM IN BG. I believe that if you look back at their season schedule you will see they too suffered through this during their tough stretch of games in late September -early October. Win over Knoxville, loss to Midland, and narrowly escaping Lawrence Co who they later blew out. I thought Mayfield suffered the same problem against NCC, after a battle with DeSales, they too were flat in the title game. I don't think many would disagree that DeSales was a much better team than NCC. LET THE BASHING BEGIN.

How about this then. Since all you eastern folks want EKU to host, let's add Murray State to the list and make it 3 locations. 2 can host the semis every year and the third can host the state title games.

It is great to see Shane Burns get some recognition for his play this season. He was nothing short of amazing.

OKAY. I have a question, and someone please answer it for me. Those with first hand knowledge please. i understand that in the Louisville area there is school of choice. Is that the same for Mayfield/ Graves County, Paducah Tilghman/ McCracken County, Belfry/ Pike County, and other like areas. I believe that in Hopkinsville/ Christian County this is not applicable.

I think the point may be that the whole world DOES NOT revolve around NKY. I doubt an incident in an obscure game in Kentucky set a standard for the whole country. LOL

EVERY other level of football "grades" officials, and has a set way of determining each officials score. This is a tough process with so many games on a given Friday night throughout the state. However, i am sure there are plenty of qualified individuals to handle the observation portion of grading officials in the state. Probably need use regional "all star" crews at the regional title games, and allow them to stay together throughout the rest of the playoffs. Ensuring that no regional crew refs their own regions teams from there on. Just another reason to centralize the semi finals. 24 crews, then cut to six, then to 2 or three depending on how the state finals work out. This year would have been three. I do not think that doing it on an individual basis would work out, as crews seem to work better as a whole. Deciding who gets the white hat, and their own crew would be based on performance and ability also. If a ref doesn't make the cut, it is up to them to improve their performance, as pay will work accordingly.

@ATLCat Don't get me wrong, I too realize that this type of dominance is cyclical. Caldwell (my home team) has had a great run the past 4 or 5 years. No titles, but for Caldwell County a great run nevertheless. I believe EVERYONE here was pleasantly surprised as to the level they played at this season. After losing Mr Football last year, along with several other very talented players, hopes were not very high at the beginning of the season for this squad across the state. BUT, yet again this team not only competed well, but was in the mix again for a run to BG. I expect next year to be another successful campaign.

The first three would be great. Throw in Mayfield and Lex Catholic. That would be my fourth match-up. Mayfield for the win.

After watching the championship game, Lex Cath was a terrible match-up for a dominate Belfry team. I think Central was a better "match-up" as far as style of play (don't think they possessed the fire power), but doubt the outcome would have been much different. Belfry was clicking on all cylinders this past weekend. They did have a cakewalk to the title game, there is no doubting that. The west was definitely a "gauntlet" of teams desperately fighting for a shot a Belfry. Tough to argue that point with E'town, LexCath, Central, Boyle, and Caldwell making for some GREAT games. It is a shame that there is not more games like those on the east side or a mixture of east/west games to improve the competitive field. Having said all of that, hats off to Belfry. Very dominating performance in 3A this season, and by seeing their youth, I look for more of the same coming next year and beyond. Belfry IS one of the best teams in the state regardless of class, if not the best. The questions should be: "Is Belfry in a class too low for their abilities?", "Is the 6 class system working with these types of games in title match-ups?", " What can be done to level the playing field further?".

4) not any of the 6 games were won by single digits. Does this signify too many classes. 5) Should the Semi finals be seeded to insure the best 2 teams make the finals. 4.) I, for one, like a 6 class system in Kentucky. Maybe instead of showing the lack of parity in each class. it shows the schools that should be moved up a class or 2. 5.) YES. The semis should be seeded. i do not think it would have a made a difference this year, and maybe any year. But, it would be a step in the right direction. The logistic stuff is a line a crap.

I plan to attend on Sunday. Lets see how my weekend goes. The only more central place would be in Elizabethtown. Now, all those that want it moved to there need to find sponsors for the event, and i am sure that KHSAA would look at moving the venue. Other than that, they have made an excellent choice of venues and location in my opinion, and I seldom agree with very much that they do but this one is spot on.

I think macdon covered the longevity thing pretty well. Very nice work. Not quite my point though. My point was the lack of parity or depth of talent. Take any class in Kentucky that you want, does not matter. There a few (an average of 5 I would say) that could be considered the "haves", and the rest are the "have-nots". A couple of those in each class are perennially there, and the rest seem to come and go. The depth of quality teams just isn't present in Kentucky like it is in some other states (i.e. Florida, Texas, California, etc.).

Isn't this list just as much about the lack of parity in football in Kentucky as it is about longevity? By looking at a list of the top 50 dated Sept. 2, 2015 Kentucky has 6 schools listed (Highlands = #2 1,111 games - 868 wins - 78.13%, Male = #4 1,215 games - 844 wins - 69.47%, Mayfield = #5 1,116 games - 833 wins - 74.64%, Paducah Tighman = #25 1,096 games - 757 wins - 69.07%, Danville = #35T 1,018 games - 742 wins - 72.89%, and Saint X = #42 1,036 games - 731 wins - 70.56%). That is three schools in the top 5. Traditional powerhouse states like California ( 2 teams with the best being Long Beach Poly = # 21T 1,091 games - 756 wins), Texas ( 4 teams with the best being Amarillo = #26 1,112 games - 754 wins), and Florida ( no one in the top 50) listed in the top 50. Now, I am not trying to downplay the accomplishments of these teams, what they have done is nothing short of being dominate.
