  4. If your driving time is the measurement we get to go by, anything more than an hours drive from Paducah isn't in western Kentucky either. Which moves Madisonville, Henderson, Hopkinsville, Elkton, Owensboro, Bowling Green, and several others to the eastern part of the state?
  5. YOU ARE CORRECT. I am going to give you the same crazy answer I keep hearing from others. Owensboro identifies better with central Kentucky than it does western Ky.
  6. Only 45 years. I guess I am still a Newby. Maybe you should read my other posts and see how those divisions are geographically made.
  7. WEST - Henderson, Hopkinsville, Princeton, both Paducah votes CENTRAL - Bowling Green, Owensboro, Elizabethtown, and Russellville N KY - Frankfort, Maysville, Ashland, and both Lexington votes EAST - Corbin, Pikeville, Harlan, and Middlesboro LOUISVILLE - both Louisville votes **** I moved Ashland
  8. For you geographical buffs, using longitudinal and latitude lines that cross the state: anything West of 87*W would make up western Kentucky, most of the area From 85*W to 87*W would make up central Kentucky (excluding the 7 counties that make up the Greater Louisville Metro area and anything north of 38*N), Louisville area is pretty self explanatory, 38*N and north of that point (again excluding the Louisville Metro) would make up Northern Ky, eastern Kentucky would be south of 38*N and east of 85*W. of course counties along these lines are subject to go either way. Can't be perfect. I include Owensboro and Russellville in central Kentucky since most of those two counties are east of 87*W.
  9. I have also always thought that was funny. However, at the time it was created it was the furthest west of any college in the state, and trying to "sell" themselves to the western region of KY. For you history buffs, prior to 1922 Western Ky University was named Southern Business Normal School and Business College. Under the pressure placed on it by Senate Bill 14 of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky which made for a western Kentucky school and a eastern Kentucky school; the school then changed its name to Western Kentucky University and out of Senate Bill 14 Murray State University (1923) was born (the other school in Morehead).
  10. I don't know either, but I live in western Ky (Princeton), and I have never considered Russelville, Bowling Green or Owensboro in western Ky and don't think many over this way do. I have always considered that central Ky. If I split it like ATLCat did you have 5 in west, 4 in central, 5 in east, 2 louisville, and 4 in NKY
  11. Where do you get 8 in western Ky? I see the tables being turned on some of these folks. That east bias has to have it their way. This is the funniest thing I have seen all year.
  12. This system would look like this. #1 Belfry vs #8 Corbin #4 Lexington Catholic vs #5 Central #3 Caldwell Co vs #6 Elizabethtown #2 Boyle Co vs #7 Paducah Tilghman
  13. Seeding based on combined averages of three polls, and leaving one poll out for tie breakers. Calpreps, BGP, Max Preps, and AP would be my polls. Who knows who comes out? Would be one awesome tournament though. Central would be my favorite.
  14. My argument for Central over Belfry is a simple one, and for playoffs once regions have been settled. I didn't go back as far as you did ATLCat but the point is there I think. 2009 - East Somerset advancing by avg difference of 22ppg. West - PT advancing by Aug difference of 5 ppg. Champ PT. 21 to 0. Advantage west 2010 - East Belfry 16.5 ppg. West Central 17.5 ppg. Champ Central 46 to 7. Advantage west 2011 - East Belfry 11ppg. West Central 28 ppg. Champ Central 15 to 14. Advantage east 2012 - East Belfry 22ppg. West Central 5 ppg. Champ Central 12 to 6. Advantage west. 2013 - East Belfry 24 ppg. West Wayne 17 ppg. Champ Belfry 3 to 0. Advantage NONE 2014 - East Belfry 34 ppg West Central 3 ppg. Champ Belfry 14 to 7. Advantage west. PPG represents score difference in regional finals and semis. ADVANTAGE represents the more perceived parity based on score. What I get from this is Central's three-year run and return in 2014 are weighed heavier than Belfry's 5 year run to a title game. Just slightly, but only because of the quality of opponent in the previous two rounds. We both agree on 2013 and 2014. I add 2012 while Belfry definitely met the challenge in the title game, their road there was considerably easier. 2011 goes to Belfry having a tougher road there, Central snuck past them in the title game. 2010 shows a similar path to the title game as far as difference, but a convincing Central win showed their total dominance this time. 2009 gives the edge to the west again as PT snuck by and Somerset had a realitively easier road. Please correct any misstated info. It's late.
  15. I don't know if neutral sites are even necessary. Would be nice, but not totally necessary. Maybe if travel is over a certain time or distance one way. Mayfield and Corbin accomplished that. Boyle and Central wouldn't require that for instance.
  16. ATLCat here is my version of Belfry. They are the reigning 3A state champions. Back to Back. No doubting it, and set the record straight as far as i am concerned Belfry and Central are the tops of 3A. PERIOD. My banter is for seeded playoffs once regions are settled. I think it would do great things for KY football in general. I love to research these topics, and debate them with knowledgeable individuals and do it in a respectful way. Sometimes that is tough as fan bases are soooooo do or die, and wear their hearts on their sleeves. That is great in its own right. Without these folks sites like this one are gone. That would be a shame. Belfry, for me, is a prime example of why seeding is necessary. My point is not to degrade what they have acomplished, but to improve the process as a whole. While doing this, regional Champions would get the acknowledgement they deserve and further stress each of their accomplishments. I feel like now a regional title is nothing more than another game in a playoff system. I mean heck we seed each region now, why not seed the region champs? Kind of a FINAL FOUR in 6 classes.
  17. #3 Typically although a team may not directly strip a ball, a defense that is able to force it's opponent into an uncomfortable situation leads to mistakes on the offensive side of the ball. Whether that be with speed, toughness, score, or whatever. #5 I agree we will never agree on this one. I think the stats speak for themselves. #7 I don't know if that could be considered a totally neutral site, but it is better than a home game. I also think that Mayfield may disagree that Bright isn't a big step up. #10 I almost agree, but you are dismissing PT, and they have the ability to make a run themselves. Just as much as does Caldwell. From there on we are pretty much in agreement. Other than if you put Belfry in Regions I am sure they're the preseason favorite, but Caldwell sure wasn't and honestly not due it. They had to play their way there. Picked no higher than 3rd preseason. Add Belfry to a Caldwell, PT region and it becomes the toughest pound for pound in the state or at least rivals region 2. I did diminish Belfry somewhat over their accomplishments. Shouldn't have done that, and didn't intend that. More of the despairment mentioned in #5.
  18. I don't mean to sound complaining about the divisions. Heck, I think it is great to see such quality and be able to play such teams. I also see the need to establish a better method that encourages those type of games, especially when you are talking state championship playoffs. At least to the best of the ability of all involved. Such a system would better solidify how the rest of the country sees KY football and the talent contained here. Isn't that what we all would like to see. It's about exposure plain and simple. The kind of exposure reserved for games where quality competition face off. It's not about devaluing any accomplishments. It's about placing a higher value on future accomplishments. For the record, as I and ATLCat have said before, it's not bout 3A it is prevalent in every class, almost every year. There are few times in recent history that both sides were even remotely equal.
  19. #1. I don't think anyone has been eliminated YET. #2. No need to legitimize a team, they will/won't do that for themselves. #3. I am guessing that you are insinuating Lawrence Co had nothing to do with causing those fumbles. Last I checked the defense gets a lot of credit for that in most situations. #4. Belfry deserves a lot of credit for holding them to 16 pts off those turnovers. Would be pretty tough for most any team to do, but I am not up to date on Lawrence Co's efficiency rate in the red zone either. Just by going by their game scores (other than their blow out games) i would be surprised if it was very good. #5. Belfry is playing in what seems to be a "down" season for the east. As do many other recent seasons in 3A (take away 2011). #6. Nothing against Belfry. Geographical location is just what it is, but don't knock other teams for the same thing. #7. I believe their is quite a gap after #5 in 3A. Please remember Mayfield was without Bright vs Corbin. Pretty sure that Caldwell won't be as fortunate. Wasn't that game played in Corbin? #9. you are correct that ANY team put in with Boyle and Central would be lucky to get out. Again, however, geographical location is what it is. #10. I believe that Caldwell is in the process of making a pretty good run in their own right. Although, coming from 2A they do have some (not quite as much as you would like, 2A isn't full of slouches either) to prove. All in all, I am not trying to knock Belfry and what they have accomplished. Nor in any way shape or form knocking Central. They have both accomplished great feats. To me, Central coming out of the west 4 of the last 5 years and winning 3 of those is much more impressive because of the level of competition faced to get there. Again, all I am saying is that typically the east is easier to reach the finals than it is in the west. The competition is tougher in regionals and semis in the west than it is in the east. #5.
  20. Is the round 3 game on the road regardless of who it is?
  21. Seems as if beating that Caldwell horse has become just as popular. PT will be tough to handle come playoff time.
