EXACTLY CORRECT. MAYFIELD would have been a force in 2A. AND 3A since it was by far the weakest division in the state AGAIN. But never mind, because we are talking about the west and no team from the west will get any respect on this site. The east bias is rampant on here. Most posters think there is no football played in the west side of the state. Too bad for them. The west came close to dominating the state this year.

That still leaves about 500 out there.

All I can tell you is go back and look at the games. Hard to believe that Murray even gets to the state finals with a healthy Sindelar. Probably a DeSales - Caldwell match up that everyone wanted to see all year. Shame it didn't turn out that way, but Murray was no slouch. Done a very good job against DeSales and COULD HAVE come out of there a winner. Don't knock it till you tried it. I agree that Mayfield may not have dominated 1A, but finished it off nevertheless. And according to you played in the toughest division. 3A was down this year, and that hurts every team there. Therefore, the rankings I posted earlier. 2A was MUCH stronger than 3A. The east side was LOADED. I would take 5 teams out of the west in 2A against Belfry any day. Add in Mayfield and there is 5 that would compete with or beat Belfry on a regular basis. Keep on with that East bias all you want. 2014 belonged to the west. 21 points overall from having a west sweep the state titles. No west team lost by more than 7. All losses were heartbreakers.

That would be hard to believe that out of the whole state which put on approximately 105 games each week that there would not be 12 of the best crews on the job for the semifinals. This was a bad one to be missed, but missed it was. Referees should not call a penalty if they do not know haw to properly enforce it. That would be like calling a holing call on an offensive lineman and backing the ball up 60 yards.

I don't know how you figure that. Caldwell beat Murray in the first matchup and was up 14-0 when Sindelar went down in the playoffs. As we all know now, Murray gave DeSales all they wanted and then some (given that Murray COULD have won that game barring a horrible call). DeSales then goes on and demolishes NCC in the finals. I would definitely say Caldwell was as good as Desales, but we will never know. Mayfield and DeSales were obviously the class of the field.

I will go with this list for the top ten teams of the small schools. #1 - DeSales - No doubt here. Probably the most impressive team in the state this year. #2 - Mayfield - Very good team. Not as explosive as in past three years, but nevertheless super strong. #3 - Caldwell Co - explosive offense. Somewhat weak defense that was exposed by Mayfield in last week of regular season. Injury ended season. #4 - Murray - Surprised many of the people in the east. Very strong team with plenty of bulk on both sides of the ball. Just came a little short of a state title in 2A. #5 - CAL - had an awesome year. Ran into the buzzsaw we know as DeSales in the playoffs. GREAT SEASON #6 - Belfry - Super run through the playoffs. Strong team in 3A. Just that 3A was down this year. #7 through #10- Could be many teams. Big grouping here. My top 4 candidates would be S Warren, Central, Corbin, and Beechwood.

Sindelar has dominated as QB for Caldwell. He is a very integral part of his team's success. Without him, although they gave a valiant effort, Caldwell had no answer for Murray. Career leader in TD'S. Second in passing yards. If Harris stays healthy he wins by a landslide. Very talented kid, and him being a UK commit doesn't hurt either. Sindelar would have been next in line. Harris' s injury really opens the door for Sindelar. Two wonderful players.

Murray was overlooked all year, but gave Desales all they wanted. They were suppose to be weak in the west (not my opinion). Murray was a big smash mouth team with plenty of talent as usual.

All 5 much better than anything the east had to offer. Sad how the playoffs are done. Only way NCC gets there is by having to play a bunch of nobodies.

For me Harris is the question. No doubt he was a shoe in while healthy. The question is did Sindelar do enough before getting hurt to win the award himself. It is down to those two for the simple fact of name recognition. Whether you like it or not, it plays a major factor in this type of award. Sindelar has won the Gatorade Player of the year for 2014 in Kentucky. Harris going to UK makes him the leader in my opinion. It just depends on how much his injury factors in the decision. There are I am sure other players out there that are very talented and put up some awesome numbers just as Sindelar did, but that pesky name recognition thing is still there. Barring injury who is to say harris and Sindelar aren't playing for titles this weekend?

Not Bitter. DeSales just that good. Didn't think Caldwell had a chance either. Actually believe that DeSales is a step above.

The only upset possible here is Shelby Valley over NCC.

While the Sindelar injury dramatically changed the game, Caldwell was up 14 - 0 at the time. They were able to hold that lead into the third quarter. Dee Cain played like a beast, as he had in the previous game against Union Co. With him still playing both sides of the ball, it came back to haunt the Tigers. Cain just not in that type of shape. Once he cramped up, the game turned once again and Caldwell just couldn't recover. Until that point it seemed as if Caldwell had the game going their way despite the Sindelar injury. Murray played extremely well in the fourth quarter against a gassed and undermanned team. I would put a lot of the loss on the coaching staff of Caldwell. They had a good game plan coming into the game, but were not able to adjust. The lack of key players playing the whole game the entire season showed up in the fourth quarter. I realize you can not run the score up on weaker opponents, but you can play defense against them. If the D scores so be it. By letting some key players play some defense in the 8 blowouts the Tigers had this year you not only let them get in game time, but get them much needed experience for situations just as what happened Friday night. I absolutely believe they would have had their hands full with DeSales this week, but might have come away with a win in what will be the 2A championship game. Murray could again get crushed this Friday night.

It is hard to believe that this thread has very little action on it. This may be the premier game this week. They have yet to impress in their last few matchups.

CONGRATS dmh115. Very impressive. Toughest contest on BGP. Thanks AJG for running this contest. Has to be a lot of work, considering what the contestants put in with their effort. Keeping up with it all must have been wild also. I love this contest just wish I had submitted my entry on time a couple of weeks ago. I too would have been in bad shape with the lack of picks now.

Friday night we will find out the HEART of Caldwell. Huge game. Will be the game of the year for Caldwell if they show up and play. Otherwise it will be a replay of Mayfield.

And for that reason I hope that Caldwell, Murray, or O Cath can pull an upset it the semi finals. I believe it will be Caldwell's chance to have, but you never know and I am partial. I don't mind the big playoff format, but wish it could be more evenly distributed instead of east vs west. Maybe not in the first two round but once down to eight a neutral site and a remix would make the playoffs even better.

Its not too many teams, its the way they are classified. Reclassifing teams would be the best answer and end with more competitive first round games. 192 is perfect.

The current system stinks. Why not have the Fulton's playing like teams? Isn't that what the class system is suppose to be doing? Shouldn't BG be a 6A school with their current domination of 5A? Why not level the playing field for everyone. Do it on an individual basis, and look at each school, it's history, it's current program and evaluate them in that way. For instance, Mayfield is a perennial powerhouse for a smaller school, and can compete with any 2A or 3A school in a given season. Another would be Bowling Green, no way they are not a 6A school. BY reevaluating each school in this way, you would force each school to have an exceptional year in their respective class to become a state champion. Isn't that what we are after in the end?

Evidently you haven't seen any of these teams play and are strictly going by posts on here. The west is LOADED. I agree that at present CAL and DeSales are the cream of the crop in 2A and the road to Bowling Green goes through Louisville this season. heck, everyone in 2A and the rest of the state sees that. The true title game in 2A is the third round matchup of those two teams backed up by the semis that would place one of those two against a Caldwell, O Cath, Murray winner. I understand the east bias on here, and especially the N KY bias as most on here feel no football is played outside of that area, and that is fine. But please be objective in seeing that the best 2A teams in the east while they might give the second teir teams in the west a game for a while they would fall very short this season. NCC and Newport seem to be the best two in the East, but they just don't match up well with any of these teams. Weather would help them, but not give them a W.

Come on guys. I understand the west bias, but lets be real here. NO west team gets out of the second round in the east. Lets see, they would have to beat one of DeSales, CAL, Caldwell, Murray, or O Cath. Not happening. Sad that the east will have to lose so many good teams this week so that eastern teams can advance to the nest round.

In 2A the toughest road would be Murray's path. Although they should get through the first round pretty easily, after that the road to BG is full of talent for them. Their second round matchup would be against a powerhouse offense in O Cath. If they survive that, their next game would be more of the same in a Caldwell Co team that has already beat them at home. Should they find a trick there and get by, they would next travel to the big city to face the CAL/DeSales winner (no treat there either). An impossible juggernaut to get by IMO. The west side of 2A is LOADED. Not an easy path for anybody. 2A state champion comes from the west, and it is wide open.
