I haven't really studied the prior formula completely but they don't include margin of victory for in state games either do they? If they do not then I get why they aren't using that formula for out of state games as well. Basically this looks like a compromise to me. They don't want to do the bookwork to actually calculate an accurate winning percentage from out of state teams, so this is what they gave us. It's a step forward, obviously not perfect but still better than treating all of the out of state opponents as barely mediocre.

The article explains it further but the gist of it is that the KHSAA "determined" that using the prior seasons RPI is better than giving all out of state teams a .500 record. They also "determined" that the difference between out of state teams actual winning percentage and the new, adjusted RPI based off from KY teams prior seasons results is negligible at best. Doing it this way takes the extra bookwork out of it, compared to using out of state teams actual winning percentage. It's not perfect but certainly a step forward, imo.

There are several RPI threads already started but I could not decide which one this would fit in the best. If a moderator would like to merge it into an already existing thread feel free to do so.

Starting this season the KHSAA will adjust the owp (opponents winning percentage) for out of state games. For 2019 all out of state teams were given an RPI of .500. Going forward the RPI will be adjusted to the winning percentage of all Kentucky schools the season prior. For the 2020 season out of state opponents owp will be adjusted to .5106. What are everyone's thoughts on this? I think it's a step forward in keeping some of the out of state play alive, rather than coaches just deciding to only or mostly play in state teams. Trinity's defense alone is enough to keep them in most games, if they're hitting 90% of their shots on top of that they're gonna be hard to beat.

Butler has a really solid team regardless, but when they're hitting their shots I imagine they are about as good as anyone. They remind me a lot of Ashland to be honest. Ashland consistently shoots a bit better than they do but Butlers speed caused Ashland problems. Similar teams, Butler just didn't shoot all that well against Ashland. Ashland didn't shoot as well as usual either, but imo that was due to Butlers team speed, they closed out quickly on Ashland's open looks.

Thanks for the updates @Tigerpride94. As an Ashland fan I have really been interested in Butler since the AIT. They won't win this tournament but they have a solid shot at winning the 6th region imo. Very quick, disruptive team that can cause a lot of teams problems due to their speed.

@MJAlltheWay24 I still have it and absolutely love it. The DVR alone makes it the best streaming service out there. You can literally record everything if you want and it will put things like sports into groups for you so that it's not a huge, cluttered list of shows.

Yes I can! It's even on the wall in James A. Anderson Gymnasium. So I'm not the only one counting it, it may not have been part of my lifetime but it's still part of the tradition.

Butler has a really solid team from what I saw out of them in the AIT. Very quick and athletic, but probably lack some size compared to other teams in Louisville and their region. With me being in the other half of the state I'm hesitant to try and place them in the region but having seen them play in the AIT, as well as their other scores I really believe they are a legitimate threat to win the 6th. I'm curious to see how they do in the LIT.

Likely not. But they are a win away from reaching their best start in a storied history. They wont be able to top the best start though as is was an undefeated, national championship season in 1928.

I'm not trying to pick on your rankings, trust me I know it's hard to even attempt to get them right. But my biggest thing with the 9th is that Beechwood lost to Lex Cath by 19, then six days later St. Henry beat Lex Cath by 11. A 29 point swing doesn't correlate to one team having home court advantage in less than a week, imo. Throw in the total losses between the two teams and the fact that their strength of schedule is comparable and feel like Beechwood isn't #2 in the 9th. If they are then the 9th is really down this season, which would be odd.

I'm not sure anyone can convince @PP1 that Beechwood won't be #2 the rest of the season. They have 15-20 point losses to teams that St. Henry has beat and they (St. Henry) have the best overall win between the two teams with their 11 point win over Lexington Catholic. But this week a one point road loss to a 10th region contender was enough to keep them from jumping Beechwood. Beechwood will stay #2, I dont care if they lost 10 games, they will stay number two lol.

It's nice that MyTownTV has picked up the rest of the games, they do a great job and it's always a quality high definition feed without any buffering. I wish Mark Swift would allow them to do the football games as well, maybe next year.

Honestly I feel like you could flip a coin for the top 5. I just don't see a clear favorite. Butler has been as impressive as anyone in that region, imo.

Condensation on the floor. The floor had recently been resurfaced as well so that probably didn't help. For anyone that doesn't know Ashland's campus all 7 buildings are built on stilts that go down to bedrock, due to the ground below them being mined years ago. I'm not an engineer but the theory is that when the gym is packed you're going to have some moisture just due to the number of people is a small gym, then add the outside air below the gym and it multiplies the condensation. For what it's worth Ashland had people with large push broom/mops trying to dry any condensation anytime there was a stoppage of play but it didn't seem to work last night.

While I won't ever rule out an upset and someone in the 16th will surely hand Ashland a loss at some point. But imo, Ashland would have won this one by 25-30 had it been finished last night. Ashland, in close games has shown that they are a second half team. Coach Mays makes halftime adjustments and turns the press up, they seem to have an extra gear that most teams they've played simply don't have, Boyd included. At the time this one was suspended Ashland was on a 19-6 run and Boyd was falling apart, then they started falling down. Starting with fresh legs today essentially allowed Boyd to play like they did in the first half last night.

Final after last night's game was suspended. A night's rest and fresh legs worked to Boyd's advantage as they cut the lead to 9 early in the fourth. Boyd County has a really solid team but one thing I've noticed in their play in the AIT as well as against Ashland is they struggle in the second half against quick, athletic teams.

Most want Bruce Hunt. I don't know much about him other than he's been involved in coaching for around 30 years.

There was one suspended in the early 70's I believe. It was mentioned by Dickie Martin earlier but I forgot the exact year he said.

Boyd and Greenup have the largest gyms in the 16th I believe.
