  1. I think we all know they aren't the best team in the state. It is nice to see them get some recognition though. They're gonna be fun to watch the next few years, this team is really young and the next couple of freshman classes have quite a bit of talent as well.
  2. Get to know your butcher then ask if they can get you a hanger steak. If they're actually butchering the meat themselves they can get you the hanger steak. It's just a cut of meat that most people don't know what it is so they shy away from buying it. Hence why you don't see it on display very often. I'd venture to guess that the owners or employees typically are who gets it, at least I found that to be the case at the butcher I frequent. Once I asked the owner about it while checking out one day he told me to just call ahead a day before I wanted it and they would have it ready for me.
  3. That would depend on the thickness of the meat but in general if you have a 3/4-1" piece of flank or skirt steak it won't go all the way through. I would avoid letting it go all the way through if possible, you could always just press it down halfway or so if it's a thin piece of meat. I do flip it over and run a cross pattern for the other side of the meat before putting in in the marinade though. Even if by some chance you did pierce the meat all the way through just remember that its gonna cook a little quicker, but will still be really tender. Using a jaccard in general will cause the meat to cook slightly faster, but it's easy to learn and even if you do overshoot the internal temperature it's still gonna be tender.
  4. That's the most important part, same with brisket. But a marinade is essential as well, imo. After being introduced to the jaccard it's essential for me. But a marinade and a fork will give similar results, I just prefer the jaccard for convenience and you don't see the holes it makes. When I use a fork to poke holes the meat generally looks like a lion pawed at it prior to me cooking it hah.
  5. They work great. The meat comes out more tender and also takes the marinade better. I honestly dont use it for.many types of meat but it does work great on the meats mentioned above.
  6. That sounds like a solid recipe. One trick I've learned with flank/skirt and flat iron steaks is that they have to be marinated, I prefer a day or two myself. But on top of that, if it's a piece of meat you like to cook with invest in a $20 or so jaccard meat tenderizer. The jaccard is essentially a bunch of needles that pierce the meat when you place it on top of the meat and press down. Tenderizes the meat and allows it to take the the marinade better. When tenderized and marinated those types of meat can become as tender as beef tenderloin, but more flavorful.
  7. I don't feel like people are giving Butler enough credit. They have a solid team and caught ETown after an emotional win. I could see them beating John Hardin or Etown either one on a given night but I feel like the Etown game was a bit lopsided due to being a trap game, in essence. In other words the rankings look solid but personally I would flip #1 and #2 until one loses or they play each other again and there is a different result than their first game. I wouldn't look too much into Etowns loss to Butler after beating John Hardin.
  8. The top 5 looks about right to me. With a win over NCC and at least keeping the game with Cov Cath respectable I could see bumping Highlands up a spot or two next week. Now is Highlands chance to really prove themselves, imo. Outside of the top 5-6 I really think you could flip a coin for the rest of the top 10.
  9. Its saddening and likely could have been avoided from the sounds of it.
  10. Yeah, I imagine the weather was likely a major factor unless there was a mechanical failure. A private pilot should still be trained to fly by instruments though. But that can still be sketchy, my father in law has his own plane and is building a kit plane, he can fly by instruments only but he typically will not fly in fog or extreme heat.
  11. That does seem to be confirmed. When he was asked whether the number of deceased matched the 9 on the manifest he didn't hesitate to say we believe so.
  12. Boyd County has the flu, so that game wasn't played. Rescheduled for this Wednesday. Ashland has their focus on East Carter this Tuesday, then they can go for round two with the Lions. Assuming the Lions are healthy by then.
  13. Butler looked really solid in the AIT. Either that or my Tomcats aren't as good as I believe they can be. Regardless this is a statement win for Butler, congrats to those kids!
  14. Not to take away any credit from FD, they seem to have a really solid team. But how long has it been since Scott County was this down?
  15. Plays offensive tackle, has mentioned that he would like to play as a defensive end. Congrats to Mr. Swiney as well as the Cardinals.
  16. I haven't but my grandmother was from Maysville. She always talked about the rivalry between them and Augusta, prior to Mason County High School being built. So I do know that it's small, but seems to be a special gymnasium. But home court advantage is an advantage I would take advantage of. Particularly is the gym is so small that not many fans of the other team make it in. Unless it's a money issue for Augusta i don't really get why they don''t use that gym to their advantage.
  17. Appears that this one will be postponed, Boyd County has canceled school the rest of the week. A makeup date seems to be unclear at the moment but this one will have to be played regardless for seeding purposes.
  18. Side note, there are rumors that this one will be postponed as well, due to the flu. Until I can confirm that I feel like this is a game of discussion for this weekend.
  19. This one will be round two for these two teams, after Ashland winning 71-60 in their first matchup of the season in the AIT, which was started then finished the next day due to condensation on the floor at James A. Anderson. Ashland looked to be on their way to a 20+ point win in the first matchup until the game was stopped, allowing Boyd to restart with fresh legs and around 9 minutes left to play. This game will be at Boyd County however, so what should we expect?
  20. Wow, any reason Augusta doesn't take advantage of playing Mason County on their home floor?
