  1. Man your ego is easily bruised. Maybe you should fix the title of the thread since you clearly just want to talk about 5A. Ask people to rank the classes weakest to strongest as thread title suggests
  2. First, an injury like this can happen with him shooting around on the driveway with his dad. I don't think he's off playing a pickup game on a sandlot. As far as any team "permitting" this. For GODS sake, he's playing Freshman football. He didn't sign a NFL contract or even commit to a college. From what I understand, he's a stellar athlete that will probably focus on Basketball. For now, I would think any team will take whatever effort he's willing to put forth. Clearly he's a hard worker. I believe I read on here last year that he shoots basketball everyday. No one has the right to restrict that. Eventually, he will have to make a choice. He is in his first year of High School, let him enjoy it in his own way. If Cov Cath wants to restrict what he can do, I'm sure many other programs will love any part of him. I'll raise my hand for Beechwood and others can get in line behind me. CVH, Keep working hard on all of your sports. I look forward to you representing NKY in whatever sport you choose to take to the next level. Many are wishing you a Speedy Recovery Son.
  3. I am scared for the BW boys. I fear they are going to be the recipients of some payback for what last year's team did to Highlands, CovCath and Others. This will likely always be the case with BW year to year. It's hard to maintiain a high-level of talent. Every so often you will get the great groups of talent and then it falls off a bit. When you are playing bigger programs, its tough to compete when there is the slightest dip in talent. What does the BW freshman team look like? VOR or BeechBum any thoughts?
  4. Yes, you said they can't and I get that. You said they should put their best athletes on the field at all times. Here you are saying otherwise and making it sound like Borchers has a choice. Does he or doesn't he? Your posts last week suggested he didn't have a choice.
  5. Yes, but the perception is not something you or the writer of the article can control. Well, except for not mixing the money in the first place. Unfortunately, he posted facts without a detailed explanation. Did anyone give him the explanation? Is he obligated to explain it. I still believe that the article was written from a postivie viewpoint. Maybe I'm wrong. I also don't know of anyone that took it the way you and some other HHS fans are thinking they are. Everyone I talked to had postive comments.
  6. cough, cough. This thinking sounds familiar :ohbrother:
  7. I saw exactly what i have been saying all along. It was displayed in exponential form Saturday. While HHS made great adjustments, I think they key difference to the 2nd quarter turnaround was Fresh Legs. Not only does Highlands Platoon, but I estimate they used at least 20 players on the offensive side of the ball. I love how the receivers and backs jump up from the play and head towards the sidelines immediately. It looked like a hockey game with a new squad potentially going in every play. Not only did they make the constant subsitutions, they did it in a way they was impressive. Players sprinting on and off the field whent he defense is gasping for air just blew me away. I have seen very few Highlands games live, but I now know that this confirms what I have been saying. If you can't platoon you have to take advantage of whatever skill you have and reduce the amount of time your top players are on the field goint both ways. That way they remain fresh for when you absolutely need them. While I was never a Highlands basher and understood how good Mueeler is, I truly never saw the great coaching difference that other described. Well, call me a believer now. In preperation, game-time adjustments and demeanor, Coach Mueller is clearly far above any coach in NKY and I'm sure across our State and others. Unfortunately, he reminded me of the Yeagle years at BW and it makes me even more Sad for what might have been. I can only hope that Rash eventualluy see the light before my boys are old enough to play
  8. I do think that Beechwood and Highlands have an "advantage", but it is an advantage that they have created for themselves. So I doubt you can call it "unfair". It may be the reality of economics, but it is what it is. I really didn't see anyone crying BooHoo. I think you are confusing the Envy with Jealousy. I don't. As for the FTEF paying for the Scoreboard. You can justify almost anything legally and I do see a benefit to the the students of highlands with the new Scoreboard. Like OSD said, it's just not a good idea to create any sort of appearance of something wrong. You should keep a very clear line between Education and Athletic Funds. I'm also not sure what the 100,000 per year discussion does to the Title 9 requirements. I know I have heard about Beechwood struggling to maintain this balance and there are State Title 9 investigators that show up at schools regularly looking for the data to prove that a school is compliant. My guess is that this article is going to have the investigators at Beechwood and Highlands asking questions.
  9. I'm not talking full platooning. I'm talking about minimizing players that go both ways and/or how much they play two ways. Cooper's situation with players not coming out is indicative of a bigger problem. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If players don't thing they willl get opportunity to play, then they stop coming out. You miss out on some solid players that way. Some that are solid to begin with some that will likely develop into solid players.
  10. What does Public School vs. Private got to do with it? A lot of parents like Hellbird want to believe that their kids are just so much better than the other 40 kids and should be playing both ways. It's simply not true. Every team has top talent, but its the ones that figure out how to get the most out of the just above average players that Win. I'll take a fresh average talent player over a tired, over-played stud any day. I'm not really talking about full platooning necessarily, but more minimizing the number of players that go both ways and especially how much time they play both. From the thread that VOR started I am learning that full platooning is certainly the exception, but I have to believe that there are very teams in 5A and 6A that are playing more than a few players two ways. Even the best small school programs minimize full-time two-way starters.
  11. Yes, they are apparently very slow to learn. Doesn't make it right. My guess is the teams that win the most in the upper 3 classes have very few starters playing both ways.
  12. There is no way a 5A school should have that many players going both ways. IMO, they shouldn't have any. Kids will step up. It's short-sided of the coach to place everything in the hands of a few athletes. You don't wait until you have the so-called "Athletes" to do it. If you spread the athelticism out and fill-in with less experienced its better than wearing out your athletes. Injuries will be less damaging as well. If you had that last year, then its very impressive that you made it as far as you did.
  13. Does Cooper run guys both ways? If so, Why?
  14. Of course. If you are KY football fan and you root against any team that is playing an out-of-state team, then you need help. Success by Kentucky schools out-of-state elevates all of the Kentucky programs. My Order: Beechwood vs anyone Beechwood's District and non-district Opponents. (Cov Cath vs Dixie has become hard for me with fellow BW Alum at helm) NKY vs other parts of state KY vs out-of-state.
  15. I'm very happy to hear about the Wagner (sp?) boys' success. They are both great kids.
  16. Me thinks you take yourself too serious. Man, I thought Hellbird was defensive of Cooper. Even Hellbird is reasonable in his assessment at this time. You are way off-base on your comments about VOR. I don't give him respect due to Hierarchy or Seniority, I give him respect because his posts are always well thought-out with a great deal of evidence to support them. You may not agree with him, but I can assure you that he probably has a near 90% accuracy rating in his predictions. You simply called his information second-hand, but I don't see where you provided any additional information to say that it was inaccurate. Get over yourself. btw... If you are going to criticize folks for spelling errors, you may want to make sure properly use the Quote feature on the site. Its probably more important to correctly quote than it is to spell a gossip column name.
  17. Yes, I have seen it at Beechwood games in the past.
  18. No implications. I do not know what is/was holding up the money, but I'm certain whatever decisons are made, are made in the best interest of ALL students.
  19. You mean they put higher importance on things other than football? Blasphemy I tell you. Kudos to the Board, Capital Budget Committie, Boosters, Bishop or whoever else prioritizes what is done with the Capital money. They produce great people and they shouldn't change a thing.
  20. Please be clear, there is no criticism in my post. I think your article was great and very accurate. Also, I am in no way affiliated with Max. Just a kid that I liked to watch last year and like you said, he should be one to watch.
  21. But that's only because there's no such thing. I would say a comparable thing to Out-of-District at NCC is a Non-Catholic coming in. I know they have plenty of those and I also know that parents complain about them. I have heard it first-hand from a NCC Co-Worker. Whether its out of disctrict kids, new kids or non-traditional kids, every school has parent bitching about kids playing in front of theirs. If you don't see it, then you simply don't want to see it or hear it.
  22. That's because they are "fudging" the numbers.
  23. He is a Fireplug. If he's playing, he must have moved into the district. Otherwise, wouldn't he have had sit out a year?
  24. Definitely Agree. We have heard this before and until the Coaches put the "team" together and have them play together, then the Cards can rest comfortably. Heck, last year I watched the tigers pounce on the Cards early and they still didn't look scared. Beechwood had the lead, yet it was Mayfield who looked comfortable and confident. That's why they are the Champions. In this thread I only saw a MF person mention "Scared", but while at practice last week I overheard some parents talking and I wanted to say something. Everytime we have had a great freshman team, the next year, those parents think that there has never been a BW team like the current. Words something to the effect of "Mayfield has never seen this kind of skill" Give me an f'ing break. Not only have they "seen it" they have beaten it. Multiple times! When will they learn that Skill is only part of a winning formula. IMO, its actually not the most important part when you are talking High School Football.
