I am scared for the BW boys. I fear they are going to be the recipients of some payback for what last year's team did to Highlands, CovCath and Others. This will likely always be the case with BW year to year. It's hard to maintiain a high-level of talent. Every so often you will get the great groups of talent and then it falls off a bit. When you are playing bigger programs, its tough to compete when there is the slightest dip in talent.

 

What does the BW freshman team look like? VOR or BeechBum any thoughts?

Beechwood opens with Simon Kenton this Saturday so we should find out soon.

Simon should be very good they have a total of 51 kids coming from 3 different programs. South Kenton seniors lost in the Super Bowl and Twenhofel and Summitview both lost in the semifinals of the NKYMS league.

Campbell county opens up with Highlands on Wednesday. I will give a full report on both squads after I see them.

I wouldn't worry too much about them. All the kids on last years teams have moved up to varsity and JV. It's not like players from other schools freshman teams have any vendetta to settle.

As it is every year, and especially a small school like BW, it's a matter of numbers. Against Conner a couple of weeks ago I counted only 17 players on the field for BW in the Freshman scrimmage. I am not sure if any were up on the JV squad so I will report back in a week or so when I am back on my feet.

SK only has 51 kids? What time do they play and where at?

I was told the JV play Beechwood at 10am and the Freshman play at 12 but I just read in the Beechwood freshman thread that the game is at 1pm. Either way it is this Saturday at 12 or 1.

SK will be fine. They picked up two great athletes in Casey Cornett ( LB ) and Elijah Jackson ( RB ) from Turkeyfoot who lost to Covcath in the 8th grade championship last year. I was told both were voted team captains a couple weeks ago and Dixie will miss them tremendously. Both are wrestlers and Dixie dropped the ball on hiring a new wrestling coach so these two hooked up with a better wrestling tradition at SK.

 

As for Dixie freshmen they will be led by Hunter Meyer ( QB ), Justin Tellez ( DT ), and Cameron Barrett ( RB ). Each have extremely good motors and can flat out fly when needed. Biggest challenge will be their o and d lines. They lost a good one to Covcath. Cornett played o line as well. If the line gels they may finish in the top 5. As stated earlier Covcath and Highlands will battle over 1 and 2.

 

Any truth to Vonhandorf hurting himself playing basketball and is he playing freshmen or JV?

The good news for Beechwood ... Simon Kenton can only put 11 of those 51 on the field.
