Peter Westhoff picks up his first varsity hit . Congrats

Game at Boone Co . 5 Innings This game was all Rebels tonight. Purnell was on the mound, getting his final tuneup before district play. Purnell picks up his first no hit shutout of the season. It took Purnell about 3 batters to get his game going, after that it was mostly strikes. After sitting high 80's in previous starts, quite possible he hit 90+ several times tonight. Holy Cross pitched a kid who kept the Rebels off balanced with a nice slow ball, but with some walks and key hits, Rebels scored early and didn't look back. I think I heard it was the kid's first varsity start.

Who was on the mound for Conner?

Boone beat St. X with a pitcher who pitched only one game on JV last year. Westhoff held St. X to 2 hits and scoreless through 5 innings. Is that enough to get Boone off the bubble and crack the top 25 ?

Who pitched for both squads ?

PBR will be there. I'm sure it's twitter will give some updates on the game.

Planck is a Louisville commit

Out of the 3 big sports, baseball is the sport that sends a competitive team on the field each season. Definitely, this season, baseball will be King Of Boone Co. HS. I feel this year's squad will prove to be one of the strongest teams Boone has fielded in several years.

Forgot to mention, Schwartz worked the last two innings for the Rebels.

Game at North Oldham. Boone's Westhoff goes 5 innings keeping St. X scoreless. Purnell gets Boone on the board in the bottom of the 4th w/ RBI single. Elmore come in for two. In the top of 7th, with Boone up 2-0.St.X gets two across to tie it up. In the bottom of the 9th, Dahms gets a lead off dbl, Schulz gets a sac bunt to get Dahms to third. Purnell scores a hustling Dahms on a sac fly to RF

Game played in Bellevue. Bellevue had Hayes on the mound and Purnell took the ball for the Rebels. Hayes kept the Rebel's hits scattered several innings to keep the Rebels scoring down. Around the fourth inning, Rebels turned up the offense and didn't look back. Purnell came in with his normal intensity and kept the Tigers hitless going into the fourth . Eickhoff came in for two innings of scoreless relief and Hibbard closed it out. Another great team win.

Who pitched for Conner?

I would say the district games he will pitch in will probable be on Wed. Getting the kid in a weekly routine. I know a couple of teams who got their "ace" on a set schedule.

Grant has a good team, just wasn't their night. Every team will have that. While taking pre-game infield, starting shortstop takes a bad hop to the face causing him to lose a front tooth. There was very heavy wind gusts which caused a few defensive mishaps and was one of those games where one team seems to have everything going right and the other team just can't seem to get it going. Nice place to play.

Rebels pick up their second win of the season with a great team win. Elmore was on the mound and picks up a complete game win with an impressive outing. Defense was excellent for the Rebels tonight with great diving plays by Russell and Domaschko. Rebels pick up their 6th dbl play of the early season. Boone had their offense hitting on all cylinders tonight . Every Rebel got in the books with Nyman, Saylor, and Knoebel all getting their first varsity hits.

Highlands picks up the win on their first game of the season. Raisor got the start for the Birds and Dahms for the Rebels. Both starters were effective but not over bearing. Defense got both teams out of some bases loaded situations. Rasior went four innings and Dahms 3. Pretty even game while the starters were in. Birds brings in their # 3 in the rotation, Rom to work the last 3 to pick up the win. Boone worked three other pitchers, Ivasille, Schwartz, and Eickhoff.

I think maybe you might be trying to get a rise out of some posters, but if you are really looking for answers, start by looking back at last season's regional tourney, it should help you answer your own question.

Hate to hear that about Brett. On the subject of who will step up, In another thread, It has been told that Beechwood has a D1 talent junior on the JV squad. This might be his chance to shine on the big stage !!!:idunno:

I would agree with rjs4470, If the kid is a true D1 talent, he would be better than at least 75 % of Beechwood's varsity team. Normally, a true D1 talent could play multiple positions if needed. I would feel a D1 first baseman would need a big bat. Beechwood has a nice varsity team, but even Beechwood would be better with another D1 bat in the lineup. Nothing wrong with a little self-promo, but keep it close to the truth.

When is everybody's first game ? Boone has one scheduled this Saturday and I thought I seen a team ( Ryle ? ) with a game scheduled on Wed. Wed might be good, but the rain moves in Thur and Fri.

I would agree pitching is very important to be successful. The teams that I feel that will start the season with a little stronger top 3 would be Beechwood, Boone, Cooper, Cov Cath and Ryle. The 5 teams listed are pretty senior heavy and the experience will pay off in the early part of the season. Beechwood - Will have a starting lineup with about every kid that can pitch. I see Beechwood's top three as Fieger, Combs, and I would say Rowe. They also have Stringer, Bankemper, and Slusher who pitch. Boone Co - Has 12 seniors, 10 who pitch. Boone's top 3- Purnell, Dahms, Elmore Ryle- Has a strong senior class as well. Ryle's top 3 - Ziegelmeyer, Billig, Kirschler Cooper - I was thinking had a heavy senior class w/ good exp pitching but have heard there might be trouble in Union and lost several seniors. That leaves me with Friend and Turner, can't come up with the third. Any help out there from the Cooper base ? Cov Cath - Always seems to have a strong 3. The ninth region will see some strong pitching this year, but which teams will have the full package with great defense and strong offense.

I would say the three mentioned are a good start to a rotation. I think I read where Rom had a good showing at a PBR event, but until Rom gets a little varsity time under his belt, I would say there is 4 or 5 teams in the region with a little stronger top 3. I don't know if Highlands offense can step up like last season. I would like to see how the rotation responds if they don't have the big offensive leads . Is the correct spelling Rom or Rohm ? I have seen it both ways.
