  1. St. Xavier can name the score in this one. Hopefully it will an early "run the clock" contest.(after halftime of course)
  2. BINGO!!!!!! At last, someone who understands.......:thumb:
  3. Doesn't apply to the largest private Catholic schools as they are single sex schools. Holy Cross in Louisville as well as Kentucky Country Day, Christian Academy, Beth Haven would have to adhere to title IX if they accept Federal money of any sort. Any co-ed private school would be subjected to IX if any of their students benefit from food assistance programs, etc.
  4. I wonder how Ballard's best RB feels not being able to participate in what could have been his school's biggest victory in years, possibly ever? Being forced to use third string middle LB led to Ballard rushing success according to St. Xavier staff member. I understand five hours of surgery for the broken jaw which was a result of someone falling on him after the tackle. Glad SR. Joe Montano could be the "hero". I understand he's been carrying the "legacy" tag his entire carrer and that can be weighty. The Ballard film crew on the visitors side were relieved it wasn't a blowout. I was somewhat surprised by that take. Hope the rest of the Tigers are healed up by September 28.
  5. Many counties have reciprocal(mutual) agreements allowing students to attend public schools out of county. Independent schools can take kids from all over as Beechwood and Highlands do. An Oldham County resident can pay tuition to a Jefferson County public school as long as the school has room for them. Hardin County Schools have agreements with Elizabethtown High School. Every county has it's own set of rules to follow, therefore how can the KHSAA members try to force a set boundary on the private schools? There are more choices out there than many realize or care to recognize. Yes, consolidation should be looked at closely by Jefferson County. The teacher's union is against it. Administrators are against it for fear of losing their positions. One other point regarding football: in 1975, the public schools approached the KHSAA about playing the Jefferson County schools in football in the playoffs. Prior to this change, all of Jefferson County was represented in class AAA. The gripe against Trinity and St. Xavier's success in football would not exist if the classes were changed to reflect only Jefferson County's largest schools. Male, Manual, Ballard, PRP and Butler don't complain too much. Many of the private grade school kids attend these fine high schools. The state at-large membership asked to play and now you want to throw us out due to our success? It's not happening in boys basketball or baseball, and these are sports without classes! The privates do well in Cross Country mainly because many of these athletes run for their grade schools. Track and field comes and goes. Lacrosse is a club sport as well as ice hockey, bowling, & powerlifting. Wrestling is usually dominated by the publics with several Jefferson County schools opting not to have it. Soccer is somewhat dominated by privates, again it is offered at many of the elementary schools locally. Jefferson County Public Schools choose not to support middle school athletic programs except for basketball, volleyball and a handful of teams in baseball.
  6. Well, the storm was a little too late, for us anyway:lol: We're just not quite ready for a team as good as JH. We started 10 sophomores and had only three returning starters from last year available today. I think JH will have a deep run this year in the playoffs.
  7. this may not be the last this season, one win vs. Breck. Co. will get them a playoff spot! I was the OC at Atherton when they won thier last game before last night (a 34-14 win vs. Moore in 2004), the kids that are seniors were freshmen then. I know how much pride they will have Monday, being able to hold thier heads up walking into school. Congrats Coach Brown and Rebs.
  8. Pete, it's Ves. I like 'em too, saw several on my school bus today. When you gonna be a guest on my radio show??
  9. actually the Rebels started the 01 & 02 seasons with wins over Shawnee.
  10. not according to the "Old Goats" - they hate the black trim.
  11. I believe that was the 2001 season, Joe's 1st at Manual. Manual was 9-1 going into the game. Wasn't that also the game Spillman caught a 75 yard slant as a freshman late in the game for the winning score?
  12. I was an asst. at Fern Creek in 2003 and we had a really good freshman team, we WANTED to play Trinity, we begged the AD, but he wouldn't budge, even though he's a St. X grad and on top of that, the week we played Trinity in varsity, we played St. X in freshman.
  13. I'm hearing that some colleges are having problems with staph bacteria on thier sportsturf fields. Some are combating the problem by having thier fields sprayed twice during the football season with a anti-biotic solution. As far as the heat, some teams on long road trips will have to adjust thier travel times, if not they will spend a couple hours on a hot school bus (unless they charter a coach), then get to thier game, only to have to sit around until the heat index goes down. I couldn't see any team "being ready to play" after that.
  14. not so sure about that dad, this year's Central team plays MUCH more disciplined football than last year and are IMO better on defense than last year. Sure they don't have two backs like they had last season, but the ones this year are good as well, not burners, but big brusing backs with some speed. Having said that, I still think Manual will win a fairly close game. Manual is pretty deep as well as talented, Central is not so deep, on a day where the game time temp will probably be in the 90's Manual will likely come out on top. But I still think Central will be playing in December.
  15. Is Meade putting up a new school building soon?
  16. This is a VERY experienced Fairdale team. Good passing game, very underrated running game and a very agressive defense, loaded with seniors, most of which are three year starters. Male hasn't had a "down" year since the 7-5 team in 1996. But remember, that team was led by Tony Driver. Male has some supurb athletes, but are very short on experience. Male might win, but it won't come easy.
  17. I guess Waggener is next on the list to get lights, they are the only ones (I think) left with wooden poles, one of which has a distinct lean to it. I just can't believe the field recovered from the last game of the season, us and St. X tore it up very badly.
  18. I was on the coaching staff at Manual in 99 & 2000 and I can tell you the old place was pretty run down. My dad was the head coach in the late 60's and early 70's and I think that date corresponded with the last time the press box was cleaned.:creepy: The group of mostly parents worked very hard to do the much needed repairs (mostly painting) that they could do. Also 1999 was the first year they put the Bermuda grass in. So yes, the stadium is in MUCH better shape that it was 10 years ago. I still miss the old scoreboard though, guess Sam Erny just hit it too many times in warm-ups.
  19. Ballard star RB Sir Weakley was suspended from school today (Thursday), this straight from the Ballard assistant A.D. Didn't say whether he was suspended from school on Friday, which would sideline him from playing Friday night. With or without him X still wins...by at least 2 TD's.
  20. the final game of the 1999 season North Bullitt traveled to Atherton. The game was on Halloween night, but the night before some Atherton students cilmbed the light poles and aimed each individual light straight up, leaving the field in darkness, even with the lights on. This of course wasn't discovered until right before the game and both teams (and few fans) packed up and went to North Bullitt to play the game. Atherton won 62-8 in Gary Weiter's last game as Atherton's head coach. Other "electric" games: 1988, Male and Waggener played an exciting mid-season game that ended in a 41 all tie. Just as Male scored on it's OT possession, the lights at Waggener shorted our in a spectacular display, caused by a couple little kids swinging on the support wires going from the ground to the light pole. They were unable to re-start the game and both teams decided to not restart it unless it determined a playoff spot, which it ended up not doing. 1971, top-ranked Thomas Jefferson traveled to winless Durrett (two schools no longer open in the Louisville area) for a late aseason game. TJ had won 66-0 the previous year, and predictably was pounding the Demons, 50-0 at half. As the teams were leaving the field at halftime, the lights on one side suddenly went out. Reparis were determined to be imposible and the game was awarded to TJ. The "power outage" was mysterious enough, because the electric was working fine in the rest of the stadium. Many years later, a Durrett assistant fessed up to causing the "blackout" by sabotaging the lights.
  21. Lights at Butler Traditional are functional (although the stands are in need of help). On the other hand, Manual Stadium's are bad. Supposedly there was a large sum of $$$ set aside for new ones, but it went to roof repair for the gym instead.:irked:
  22. yeah, we're playing the game before Bullitt East - supposed to start at 2:30. :irked:
  23. The St. Xavier faithful will be vocal. The Glasers may or may not be happy to hear them. Remember, no tailgating on St. Xavier property. It would be a shame to have some of the backers removed from the premises prematurely.
  24. If there are truly 7 starters out for the Tigers, then this game may be a toss-up. I'll be there in my Trinity attire.
