  1. Ryle's experience in last season's state final pays off and the Raiders knock the Tigers from the ranks of the undefeated 28-14. The running game for Ryle will be the difference.
  2. Diogenes, I honestly believe the current staff at Trinity would have said let's get ready for the "next game". Just like this season, the Rivalry game is over and it's time to focus on the playoffs. Hopefully in the near future, the Butler Bears will rebound. They have lost 1/3 of their varsity players, excluding freshmen, due to various reasons since August 20.
  3. Fortunately, Trinity is not in the same situation as Butler. Our QBs haven't been hit hard enough to be knocked out of a game. No, the Duttons would not play QB. Former QB and current TE Carrico would be available. Did you notice Seneca is playing a freshmen QB this year named Jamarcus Smith? Dennis Johnson played as a fourth grader at Harrodsburg (before they changed the rules)Butler's Lucas has played in varsity games earlier this season. Your concern for young Lucas and his Bears is commendable. Of course, Butler's freshmen have played against a few 250 lb players previously in their frosh games. The time Lucas fumbled versus St. X, he was not supposed to run the option and the extended ball was slapped out his hands. He never took a hard hit.
  4. the starting QB (a sophomore, that is Trinity tranfsfer) had broken a finger in the Nelson game the week before, the emergency QB (a junior) was suspended from school. The only other QB available was another freshman, who played the whole freshman game (earlier that night) at QB.
  5. I haven't heard much about the Notre Dame signee since he committed. One man does not make a defense. I'm confident Coach Beatty and friends are aware of his talent and will challenge the Rocks to step up.
  6. I am aware of 1938. What year was the other National title?
  7. Somebody has to be able to take a snap. The QB in question is the head coach's son. He is well aware of the risks and I respect his and his family's decision. If Trinity had lost three QBs to injury, etc. we would struggle....as would most schools.
  8. Lou. Central has speed, but are VERY big and strong as well. But they do play several payers both ways, and have gotten a little tired in the 2nd half of some games. And for all thier speed, they are pretty much a straight ahead, no frills run-right-at-you offensive team. In the past teams that made Central play "assignment football" has had success with them, but the new coach (Scroggins) has them playing much more disciplined football than ever before. A bad sign if you can't match them athletically. Don't let thier 3-A classification fool you either, they are as good as many teams in classes higher. Still, I think it will be a close game: LCHS 27 JCHS 24
  9. Hmmm. They are as reliable as the Courier Journal's reports for the past 100 years. Did you know St. Xavier gave up football for two years after a defeat to E-town that ended their 1917 season prematurely? Yep, took a vote by the student body (300 at the time) in 1920 to revive the football team. I kept reading that St. Xavier started their program in 1917 and no mention of it was made in the 1919 papers. Finally, a small article about the student body vote appeared in early September, 1920. Also, the research requires scanning every daily paper as many games were played throughout the week on fields without lights. If it was too wwet, they'd move games to Monday or Tuesday.....St. Xavier had to ride ferry boats to their contests at Jeffersonville......I could go on, but you get the picture. We work backwards (1921, then 1920, etc.) because some results are mentioned the following year a game was played and never mentioned in the paper at the time the game was held. Central, Fern Creek, Okolona, etc. didn't get the coverage and they didn't have folks call or mail in their results. Until Flaget opened in the 40s, the C-J covered Manual, Male and St. Xavier extensively as these were the only city schools. Male and Manual played by their Louisville Board of Education rules while St. X used the KHSAA's regulations. There may be a typo or two and if you see any errors, please send an email to the address listed at the website. There are some gaps, especially in the 1920s and 30s for a few Louisville area teams. Manual and Male results were detailed in a 1940 book published about their programs. This was a great reference guide. Microfilm at the Louisville Free Public Library of both the Courier Journal and Louisvile Times are the major reference points for this site. Trips to the offices of the Oldham Era yielded the Colonels modest beginnings. They have scrapebooks of their original editions of the weekly papers.
  10. I need a "run the clock" game so I can make a wedding reception in a timely fashion. Trinity should win handily. PRP's QB is still recovering from an illness and can't be 100%. It's the Rocks first ever visit to Pleasure Ridge Park for a varsity football game. The Shamrock passing attack should be too much for the Panthers. The line play should work in favor of Trinity. Trinity simply has more big people than PRP. I do not believe PRP is more talented offensively than Ballard or Eastern.
  11. Beats Breck. Co. 20-6, all but locking up the school's first playoff berth. Congrats Coach Matt Brown. :thumb:
  12. I must post a correction regarding availablity of pre-sell tickets at Trinity. Trinity did receive tickets the morning (8:30AM)of the game and sold 120. I was able to purchase some at 3:45PM at Trinity after being told atBallard at 12:30PM that none were available there until 6:30PM. The crowd was down. School night for the Rocks. Lots of gaps in the Ballard stands. Some gaps on Trinity's side as well. Jefferson County Public Schools should have moved to Saturday instead of Thursday night. And so it goes......Ballard missed one extra point, botched snap and Trinity had their last attempt blocked.
  13. Get there at 6:30PM when the gates open as there are no advance ticket sales available at Trinity. Trinity contacted Ballard several times yesterday to no avail. Ballard cut off ticket sales at 12:00PM today during their last lunch period only. I attempted to purchase tickets at 12:30 and was told none were for sale and to be at Ballard at 6:30PM when the gates open. It's a shame that Ballard is in such desperate need of the extra $1.00 per ticket. Per an employee of the school, they have only sold 50 tickets for tonight's "titanic struggle". I would have gladly paid the extra $1.00 ahead of time because the ticket sellers are usually overwelmed by the walk up crowd. I hope this turns into another 70-7 route. Ballard has owned Trinity in basketball the past 13-14 years. Trinity has owned them in football for a similar time. The new AD at Ballard took over for his father a couple of years ago. I thought he might be more enlightened. I'll simply boycott their concessions, program sales, etc. due to this lapse in judgement.
  14. Finally, now you see why the private schools have an advantage in many sports. Female sports are very important in our area, especially in the private schools. You must see why a person in Shelby County will drive their child to Jefferson County and place them in a program where the other parents support their children's program(s) of choice, be it athletics, arts, mathematics, etc.
  15. Three more Bears have left the den. They were upperclassmen. I believe two were starters on defense. And so it goes for Butler.
  16. Trinity's marching band ceased to exist in the early 60s. Ballard usually quits on Mr. Catlett. The Rocks are 36-5 versus the Bruins all-time. Last season included 36-6 and 48-7 victories. The scores in 2005, 70-7 and in 2004, 37-17. The last close battle was in 2003, a 22-20 victory for the Rocks that was followed by a 36-12 win in the playoffs. The last Ballard victory in this series was recorded in 1995, Trinity's last losing season, 14-12. The visitor stands at Ballard are second only to Brother Thomas More Stadium. See Trinity-Eastern score earlier this season. That should repeat itself.
  17. I still say Tilghman is all that stands in the way of Louisville Central winning their first state title in football. I expect the Blue Tornado to bounce back and fair very well inside their district. Best of luck to Mayfield as well. I prefer traditional powers in Louisville in December:thumb:.
  18. His father is a teacher at Trinity! He also happens to coach defensive backs. Lexington is not an Archdiocese. They are the Diocese of Lexington. Louisville is still the big kahuna in these parts as far as the Catholic Church is concerned. This boundary stretches into Tennessee. Now, you may speak of the school system, which locally answers to a Superintendent and has parishes in several surrounding counties. There is no rule that keeps a child from attending a Louisville Catholic school of their choice as long as they agree to meet the tuition requirements, etc.
  19. If intensity at practice is any indication of what may take place Thursday, make it a run the clock game in the third quarter. T52-B7. Will "Sir" be available for the game or not?
  20. no, freshmen vs. freshmen. The JV is pretty much the varsity.
  21. Butler will be starting 3 freshman on offense and 2 on defense. (due to ineligibilities, injuries and quitters/dismissals). There's a weekly internet show with a Butler assitant coach. Go to Louisvilleprep/com. The Sunday High School Football Show. This site is Bluegrass Preps friendly. These freshmen varsity starters will not participate in the Frosh game, so the freshmen Bears are short handed as well. The JV game scheduled for today was cancelled due to the lack of healthy quarterbacks at Butler. They currently have two, both freshmen.
  22. How did Boone County and Owensboro get together in the first place? This is a heckuva road trip for both in this home and home contract.
