  1. 1996 Class A Championship Game - Beechwood vs. Harrodsburg: Played at the Old Cardinal Stadium in a snowstorm with flakes the size of Ritz Crackers and a VERY cold north wind howling in the open end. Beechwood KO'ed Craig Yeast on the opening kickoff, and won 21-14. Honorable mention to the Doss/Southern regular season game in 1992: Heavy T-Storm with torrential rain delayed the start about 30 minutes. The lightning stopped, but the rain continued. The field had the consistancy of chocolate pudding between the 20's and the hash marks. The creek behind the stadium overflowed and flooded the practice field and parking lot. The police helicopter hovered behind the home stands for a while. Later found out they were looking for a reported child swept away by the high water. Coming out for the 2nd half the PRP fire chief was wading through the parking lot carrying one of the "Big Bruiser" sled dummies (that got left out). Seems someone saw it floating down the creek and reported it as a child in the water. As for the game, Doss scored 3 times in the final 5 minutes to win 21-0.
  2. St. Xavier will win this one easily and will be in a real hurry to get out of downtown. The Tigers may not attempt a pass and will do everything possible to keep the clock moving.
  3. He was probably refering to Flaget:D!
  4. I believe it's the officials way of shortening games.
  5. My goodness. There are an awful lot of posts for a Trinity-Seneca thread. Glad to see this game was for so important.
  6. I think they've played a little of both.
  7. There are a lack of lineman in this freshmen group. Again, you can question the methodology of the program, but the results for the overall program are unmatched.
  8. Coach Beatty explained that he has to get ready for the playoffs. The starters need time on the field as a unit. They need to play when they are tired. The man's methods may be questioned by the fans and non-fans, but you can't argue with his track record.
  9. Coach Martin deserves some COY consideration.
  10. Southern 29, Bullitt Central 13 Calvin Ferguson finished with 143 yards on 15 carries as the host Trojans (4-5, 1-2 Class 6-A, District Four) rolled past the Cougars (2-7, 0-3).
  11. That, my friend is why the majority of non-privates have a difficult time of defeating the privates in football. Baseball, basketball, wrestling...not so much due to the makeup of the games or matches themselves.... Of course, doubling the number of single sex schools' enroolments would continue. Many folks read the KHSAA enrollment figures of the past and assumed Trinity and St. Xavier had 2600-2800 boys attending their schools!
  12. It is OK to talk to kids. You simply cannot offer them inducements, like playing time or guarantee them financial aid from the institution. You may speak to them at length about how wonderful your school is. They have to fill out the paperwork, just like all the others seeking financial aid. There are some public schools in Jefferson County that are invited to go into the Catholic grade schools and speak to the eighth graders about the advantages of their schools. I see it as open competition for all students. The public schools receive their funding based on numvber of seats filled on a dialy basis. The privates survive on the number of tuition paying families they attract. Mr. Hall stated to me by phone that he was sorry Mr. Bennett mentioned Mr. Finch at all. Of course, he didn't have to write it. Again, Mr. Valentine has political aspirations and Mr. Branch, AD at Jeffersonville and former AD at Seneca does not feel warm and cuddly about private school education in the first place. Valentine's North Hardin Trojans have not much success on the football gridiron, usually losing to St. X or Trinity in the playoffs....
  13. Where are Chris West or Rodney Francis when you need them? Jim Vesel, Steve Haag, Jerry Mayes...so many great coaches. "Team" is the key word when discussing the Xaverians or St. Matthews Catholic. Manual has possessed more than enough talent to defeat the larger privates, including this season. As has Henry Clay, more often than not. It's fun to poke at Coach Nichols. He is truly a thorn in the private schools' side because Manual does have room for many CSAA athletes every year and they offer an outstanding educational program. I've always said, you can't beat free.
  14. Thank you! I thought I may be losing my mind....:jump:
  15. Which person picked PRP to win over St. Xavier? :fire: This guy will be Frosty the Snowman if this happens! Coach Glaser of St. Xavier personally quaranteed me a victory by his Tigers over the Panthers.
  16. Boone, because they can throw the ball as well as run it!
  17. Let's face facts, there are some poor teachers out there. There are many outstanding educators as well, but if your child wasn't happy with their situation, and you could not gain satisfactionb from the teacher, you may want to switch to another school....don't you think?
  18. Slavery ended 140 years ago. The children are not owned by any school board. This whole idea that the public educators are entitled to force your child to enroll where they see fit is crazy. Let them attend wherever they want. If a teacher moves, he doesn't sit out, does he? Even in mid year, coaches come and go all the time. It should be the parent's decision until the student is 18. Then the decision transfers to the student. As far as why a child leaves, who cares. It may be as simple as he likes the new mascot better. Let them move freely. Of course this may point out many faults and raise many questions why children are leaving a particular school. Freedom of choice. The parents are accepting the responsibilty of getting the child to and from school...free transportation was never an intent of the education provision.....let the kid go and the old AD ought to get over himself.....
  19. Trinity will have no problem scoring against Seneca, Eastern/Ballard survivor, Henry Clay then Boone County or Ryle. The Rocks may allow 35 points, but should score more than 42 each game against these competitors. St. Xavier will have to beat Butler, Manual, Male and then have to make a road trip to Westen Ky survivor (could be Marshall County) The fourth round is not based on higher seed, simply based on odd/even region winner each year......odd numbered region winner is home in odd numbered years, etc.
  20. I understand that PRP knocked four Shamrocks out of the game with concussions.
  21. North also finished last season with about 20 players, I attended thier opener vs. Shawnee and they had 40+ dressed. Kudos to Coach Billy Martin.
  22. Game was 7-0 for a very long time before two Butler 4th quarter TD's on a short run and long interception return broke it open. And finally we had some football weather. :thumb:
  23. Holy Cross in Louisville was penalized heavily of few years ago. The rules are in place. If a private school were in or near your county, would you consider sending your student there? Would the student want to attend? If a parent drives near a school when they go to work, why not consider sending them to school there? Is it easier to point fingers and cry foul or give the program you care about your full support, including monetary gifts? In Louisville, the numbers game alone is enough to hurt the publics versus the privates. Assumption, Sacred Heart....900+ girls. St. Xavier and Trinity more than 1300+ boys. Mercy is closing in on 600 girls. Until you offer classes in all sports (again, leave basketball alone since that seems to be a great money maker for the KHSAA), as other state associations do, then you will have the privates win more often than the publics like. I believe the 25 mile rule would be tested in court by someone who lives 30 miles from St. Matthews or Poplar Level Rd. It is a goodwill gesture. The need for greater investigative strength shouldn't be needed. The rules are on the books. All you need is proof, as it should be when accusing someone of doing something improper. When the KHSAA was started, the main concern from 1917 to the 1970s was the age of the students. Where they resided was never an issue. Many students living outside the city limits of Louisville attended Male and Manual. St. Xavier had kids from Indiana attending their institution early on. The students names, parents/guardians names, and addresses of the starters were often included in the local newspaper reports leading up to a big football game. Sometimes, place of birth was included to show where the kids came from! There were 100+ small community schools out in the state. LaGrange, Pleasureville, etc. No one questioned where the kids lived who attended those schools. Proper documentation of their age was all that was needed. A school was put on probation for using an ineligible QB (papers on file at the school had been changed) and their coach left and came to Louisville to coach a prominent program the following season. And so it goes.....
