8th Region Warrior

Very much appreciated, I don't have to do one now. These 2 games can be deceiving so be careful with what you are thinking... Gallatin County very good at stealing possessions, an example is the (5) charges they took in the first round. They are extra patient on offense and this game will be in the single digits. Question for me in this one, will the Titans get second chance points via, rebounds and steals? The Dragons beat Anderson fairly bad last year, embarassed them, and I think that will insprire these Bearcats and staff to make this game a slug fest. The zone really bothered the Bearcats last year, but this time Drury has until Monday to game plan and that will also make this game close. Who makes the play in the end? JoJo for South or Cobe Penny for Anderson. Both will be entertaining games to say the least.. Good luck to all these coaches, and players

Gallatin was 2-1 vs. Williamstown, only loss come when Wilson did not play. This game will be fun to watch!

The senior award is the KABC POY that is handed out at the state tourney, and it has to go to a senior, they then are nominated for Miss Basketball. The 8th region, as do others, have their own all region team comprised of players. This the POY that everyone is upset with. My only gripe with that list was Varney, easily top 3-5 player in the region, and did not make the list. But I think I have to agree with Pioneer Pride, not a lot of people saw her play.

Both are great players plain and simple. Ally won the award last year, and Clifford won it this year. I will say that the people that I know voted for Clifford based it on their head to head last year where Clifford won the region for her Raiders and the Pioneers lost. In that game the best player was Clifford. I do not think it was a political statement by no means. Has Simon ruffled feathers over the years, maybe so, but the truth is they had 3 players make the all region team which is unheard of in the 8th region, and the second best player was left off, which was POY in her region for Muhlenberg last year. I thought that was the injustice for Varney. She is a great player in her own right. When Simon only plays one team in the region outside of their district not everyone sees them play as well. The stats are not comparable in my opinion. Simon plays a brutal schedule, so for Neice to get 19.0 a game against that competition is really good. Trimble had a wonderful season and run with this group of girls, and they represent what our region is about, very proud of them.

That would be a yes, but the 7th region is a bear, and sometimes the bear eats you. Coach Just will X and O you to death, and looking at this score shows me that he controlled the tempo and made it his style. Good luck Crimson's moving forward.

This game should be fun to watch. Both teams know each other very well, with playing in the same conference and the All A tournament. Hard to go against Coach Jones in this game, has the experience and his team should feel more comfortable in that gym. However the size of Fox could give them issues I believe. I am going with Gallatin as I said in my earlier prediction thread, but I am happy for both teams, good luck to both..

You are correct Colonel Mike, it is a vote for where the region is held, at Henry will always host it, to many schools are going to vote for it, and why not they are relatively close. The girls is on a rotation, voted on by the coaches I have heard. The only gym that is large enough to hold the boys is Henry County's gym, especially semi-final night.

The Roy Winchester Gymnasium on the campus of Henry County High School has been hosting the 8th region tournament for quite sometime, I am thinking 1962-63 may have been the first year? A history guru, "Calling Colonel Mike"..... may know for sure. In that span there has been some of the best basketball that our state has ever witnessed. The coaches and players that have been a part of this region are incredible, and these teams are hoping to cement themselves into that conversation. I would go out on a limb and say that the favorite has not won this region in the last 4 years, and the 29th District has laid claim to the regional title 5 of the last 6 years. Could this be a year an All A school gets over the hump? Can the 30th district make a charge to a regional crown? Who is going to be this year's Cinderella? I am going to discuss each team, players, and coaches. I will give my best swami impersonation, and maybe pick the regional winner right this year, BUT don't count on it. There are (6) teams with a chance at their 20th win this season this week, proving we have a very balanced regional tournament. Oldham County Colonels (29th District Champions, 26-5) This team can beat you in a lot of different ways, but they rely heavily on their defensive pressure. The Colonels do not have a rim protector, but they have ball pressure and lots of it. They must force TO's to ignite their transition, and easy opportunity's. They say defense wins Championships and that is what the Colonels are hoping this year. I really believe how the stripes call the region will determine a lot for the Colonels. This makes the 7th straight year that the Colonels have won the 29th district and that alone is an incredible feat. Lets talk about the players in Buckner. This team is ran by Jackson Gibson (12.4ppg), his ability to get teammates shots, and get his own is better than anyone else in the region, only a junior, I look for him to be a POY candidate moving forward. Senior Ishmael Jones (13.4ppg) and Senior Ryan Heelen (7.6) both lead this team very well. Jones is relentless with ball pressure and getting to the rim, while Heelen is Mr. Big shot for the Colonels. The other 2 juniors Travis Henderson (9.0ppg) and Zach Larimore (13.2ppg), both average double digits, and are capable of big nights. Both can step out and shoot the 3, get you on the glass, or beat you off the dribble, making them a match up nightmare. Jones, Gibson and Larimore were all selected to the All 8th region team, a feat that is hard in itself. South Oldham Dragons (29th District Runner-Up 25-5) Coach Simpson probably is still mad that the Dragon's did not capture the 29th District Championship BUT if he can cut the nets down next week I think it will help ease his pain. These Dragons may shoot the ball better than last year's team, and saying that is just nuts. Last year's Dragon's made 367 (39%) , while this years team has made 354 (41%), if the Dragons can win the region I have a feeling they may reach 400 which is unbelievable. They are led by POY, walk on Louisville commit Jo Griffin (21.5ppg) (4.6reb). JoJo makes us old guys feel good, because he plays so hard, plays for his teammates, and does it with a lot of character. If the Dragons are going to win the region, he can not do it by himself. Bigger games the Dragons seem to watch JoJo, something that has cost them against the Colonels. They have a junior all region performer in Devin Young, (16.7ppg), making over (80) 3's at 47%. He can get going and score in bunches. They have another sharp shooter in Aaron Franklin, (11.9ppg), making (90) 3's at 45%. We can not forget about senior Dyllon Hoover (9.0ppg), also with around (50) 3 point makes, Dyllon makes hustle plays for the Dragons when they need it. This Dragon team shoots 73% as team from the charity stripe, making them dangerous in this tourney. Coach Simpson has won 3 of the last 4 regions, I think it gives this Dragons team a distinct advantage. Anderson County Bearcats (30th District Champions 19-11) A couple weeks ago, a lot of people on this board had ridden off the Bearcats, but as I said in my posts, the coaching staff at Anderson has been doing this for a while, and they have righted the ship at the most opportune time. Coach Drury is seeking his 3rd regional title in his tenure. His last came with a player named CJ Penny, just a coincidence that he has another Penny on this team in Cobe Penny. Only a junior Cobe Penny (23.2ppg) leads the charge heading into this weeks regional. He is capable of putting a team on his back, as he did last year and making it to the finals. The Bearcats have a senior in John Paul Garmon (11.8ppg) that makes all the dirty work plays for the Bearcats. They have another pair of junior duo's in Gritton (11.9ppg) (10.4reb), and Pittman (10.2ppg) that have been big contributors in this stretch run. If my calculations are correct Gritton is one of two players averaging a double-double in the region, impressive indeed. Collins Titans (30th District Runner-up 20-12) This Chris Gaither team has battled the injury bug for most of the season, but have all of their pieces back heading down to New Castle this week. How healthy they are remains a mystery. Nagging injury's can take a toll on a player, but with regional tournament adrenaline can be a deciding factor in pushing through. The Titans know how to win on this floor as they won the HCIT back in December. The Titans are led by a couple senior's in Dominique Turner (11.3ppg) and Charles Cochran (15.8ppg). These 2 are extremely long, and ahtlertic. They make a living off slashing and driving, and second chance points. In the open floor they are great at finishing and gives the Collins Titans a chance to win this region next week. Lets not forget the junior duo of Feltner (11.9) and Fort (10.4). These 2 are coming off major injury's, and are the Titans 3 point shooter's, something they will need to advance. But the hopes of a regional crown may come at the expense of a freshmen in Dayvion McKnight (7.0ppg). This freshmen does not look to score but he lives in the paint, which gets shots for his teammates, and offensive rebounds for the big's. If he can handle the atmosphere it gives the Titans a chance. Gallatin County Wildcats (31st District Champion 19-12) Coach Jon Jones has his Wildcats back into the regional tourney, where they have played the spoiler in the past. The Wildcats just cut the nets down in the same gym where the regional tourney is played, and counting the regular season game against Henry, this will be the 5th game in that gym, which could come in handy this week. The Wildcats are led by all region performer Mason Wilson (18.9ppg) (6.7reb), he lives as the FT line, and why not, he shoots around 84%. Mason plays extremely hard for the Wildcats as most of them do. The Wildcats also have a junior in Justin Rassman (10.9ppg) that can keep you honest with his 3 point shooting. Typical Gallatin County team, with 5-6 guys averaging 4-6 points and you have a recipe for winning in Warsaw. The Wildcats are patient on offense and will grind you on defense, something that Jon Jones has perfected. Eminence Warriors (31st District Runner-up 14-13) Coach Dale Brown has to be commended for a job well done in his first year at the helm of the Warriors. Eminence finds themselves back in the regional tournament, and boast one of the best scorers in all region performer Kemyrn Jenkins (27.5ppg). He can score in bunches, drives, makes 3's and can kill you on the offensive glass. If you focus on Jenkins you will pay dearly with (2) seniors in Dixie(12.3ppg) and Jones (11.4)ppg. Both are capable of 20 point nights, and can beat you if you let them. They have an sophomore in Dotson that averages a double-double in (10.5ppg) and (11.7reb), only the second player to do so in the region. This Warrior team has played a weaker schedule that may hurt them this week, but with these 4 kids you better not overlook them. Walton Verona Bearcats (32nd District Champion 26-6) This Bearcat team is 2-2 in Championships thus far, and hope to make it a clean sweep in the next couple weeks with a regional title. Coach Brennan who won coach of the year in the 8th is showing you why. He has guided the Bearcats to 26 wins, which is (8) more than last season after losing some quality seniors from that team. This Bearcat team will not be going away anytime soon as they are a young team, and getting to this regional tourney will do nothing but help them in the future. They are led by Junior Zach Clinkenbeard (13.0ppg) (7reb) per game. Zach just does a little bit of everything for this team. They also have a big sophomore in Deionte Miles (12.0ppg) (6reb) and a ton of blocked shots. Deionte can change shots around the basket making it difficult on teams. Those 2 deserve a lot of credit for success but lets not forget that the Bearcats have 5 guys averaging (5-6ppg) each that do not get a lot of attention in Anderson, Jones, Lay, Moran and Pardee. Only one of these guys in Moran is a senior, so the Bearcats return almost everyone next season. Williamstown Demons (32nd District Runner-up 17-15) This Williamstown team is led by another ex- UK player in Roger Hardin, one of my favorites I might add. Coach Harden also has done a masterful coaching job this year. When the Demons lost Cippolone to Lloyd Memorial I felt bad for the Demons, because I thought they had lost their shot at a regional run, and man was I wrong. This Demons team battled injury as well, but just kept fighting and will be in New Castle this week for the first time in a very long time. The Demons are led by junior guard Brennan Stanley (18.5ppg). Stanley is another player that can score in alot of different ways on you, 3 pointer, driving and living at the FT line. Another Junior if Fox (11.1ppg) (8.1ppg) gives the Demons a big man that they have not had for a while, who can make shots around the basket difficult. The Demons have 2 seniors in Jump (11.1ppg) leads team in 3 point makes, and Parsons (7.8ppg) (6.7reb) per game. The Demons only boast 2 seniors as well, and return lots of kids for next season. They are not going to be an easy out this or next season. Predictions Wednesday 3/1 Gallatin County 58 vs Williamstown 56 Oldham County 64 vs Collins 63 Thursday 3/2 Anderson County 72 vs Eminence 54 Walton-Verona 52 vs South Oldham 60 Monday 3/6 (semi's) Gallatin County 48 vs Oldham 61 Anderson County 60 vs South Oldham 70 Tuesday 3/7 (Finals) Oldham County 68 vs. South Oldham 72 I can not go against the Dragons and Coach Simpson, I hope I didn't curse them. Now that we know the 8 teams for the Regional Tournament held at Roy Winchester Gymnasium, on the campus of Henry County High School, I wanted to do a ranking of the 8 teams going into this Sunday's draw. There are some District Championships on the line starting tonight, there importance of winning and losing your district could be a big factor in reaching the final. We also have (4) All A schools advancing for the first time since 2000. Should be a great regional Tourney. Below are my last rankings until the regional write-up. Of course I missed 2 in my prediction thread, and they were the 2 wouldn't you know that I had a hard time with :no: 1. Oldham County Colonels 2. South Oldham Dragons 3. Collins Titans 4. Walton Verona Bearcats 5. Anderson County Bearcats 6. Gallatin County Wildcats 7. Williamstown Demons 8. One of the things I admire about the 8th region is the fact we have several really good coaches. Some have done a phenomenal job this season. It is a good mix of seasoned veterans with some youth. This region has prided itself on great coaches over the last 20-30 years. The coaches also have a lot of respect and camaraderie for one another and that is awesome to see as well.

If the game were not at Henry I would have chosen Eminence, but I went with the home court advantage, would not be surprised if Eminence won, after all they have had about 10 days to prepare for the game.

With the regular season wrapping up, it is tourney time in the Bluegrass State. Games got under way last night, with mostly 4/5 seed play in games, however some were 1 vs. 4 seeds. Everyone likes looking forward to Wednesday games because generally that is 2 vs. 3 and in our region there are some games on slate that will send 3 of our top 6 teams home already and make someone's path a lot easier in getting to Rupp Arena. It is an absolute blast to cover this region, I do it for the kids and I hope it has been a good read for BGP. Let us not forget that there are some awful good seniors out there that will play their last games this week, and we should appreciate what they have done for basketball throughout their career. Instead of re-cap I am doing a district preview and match up. Enjoy :clap: 29th District: Oh my goodness, if you ask me it may have the 3 hottest teams in it right now. Here is the kicker one of them will be done after this week is over. 1. Oldham County Colonels- The Colonels come into the district as the host school, where they are hard to beat in Buckner. The Colonels wrap up the season with a (24-5) record, with 2 blemishes at home. They have (3) all region selections in Senior Ishamel Jones, juniors Jackson Gibson, and Zach Larimore, and I almost bet you that Travis Henderson got some votes as well. It is the 3 headed monster that has taken turns against opponents that make them dangerous. The Colonels have shown that they can be beaten but it will be a hard task for an 8th region team, after all they are undefeated in regional play. You have to handle their pressure and keep their guards out of the lane. The Colonels are playing the #4 seed Trimble County Tuesday (2/21). 2. South Oldham Dragons- The Dragons like the Colonels are hot, winners of 10 out of their last 11 games. They are led by POY Jo Griffin, who does it all for the Dragons, he can get double digit rebounds, points, assists and steals in games, and dominate the game without really scoring a whole lot of points. Very good basketball player, I say he is a throwback player and it makes me happy to see someone play that way. However he is not all they have, another senior Aaron Franklin is, you guessed it, a very good 3 point shooter and not to mention another all region selection in junior Devin Young at (16.6 ppg). The Dragons have made (338) 3's at 41% which is scary for other teams. Another stat that is a tourney stat is they shoot 72% for the charity stripe. If the Dragons are hot your season could be over. 3. North Oldham Mustangs- No one is playing better than the Mustangs right now. They are winners of 12 out of their last 13 games, BUT you guessed it that loss came to the Dragons. They sometimes struggle guarding the ball, and it can cost them in their match up, however they can flat out score, and have 2 players that can get hot and send you home in an elimination game. Wheeler (15ppg) and Henry (21ppg) compliment each other very well, but lets not forget the junior Justin Rose who is shooting 40% form 3 point land himself. Can these 3 get hot and win the 8th region? We shall see. 4. Trimble County Raiders- The Raiders have had another long season, they have gotten 4 wins, and beating Thomas Nelson was a nice win for this team. They are led by junior Troy Grieshaber at (12ppg) and has put together a nice junior season. The Raiders lose (2) seniors this season, so they are preparing for a good spring/summer and winning more games next year that I predict they will accomplish. I really like Coach May and think he does a great job. The Raiders have a tall task in the Colonels tonight. District Predictions Oldham County 82 Trimble County 48 South Oldham 76 North Oldham 74 District Championship Oldham County 63 South Oldham 62 30th District: Good luck figuring this district out, without a doubt the most balanced district in our region. It has the potential to be some great match-ups this week, and I think a chance to spruce up some rivalry's among the 4 teams. A lot of people see this district as maybe having the team that can beat someone from the 29th, we shall see. 1. Collins Titans- This Titans team was rolling in December, they are the only blemish that a very good 5th region team has in Adair County, and then the injury bug bit the Titans. They however got some valuable time for their young kids, but lost chemistry and much needed conditioning. They have got their players back, the question remains, is it to little to late? The Titans square off with cross town rival at Collins in the first round, I know on paper it appears the Titans will handle the Rockets easy, not so fast my friend. The Titans are led by 4 guys that average double figures, Cochran (16ppg) Turner (12ppg), Fort (11ppg) and Feltner (12ppg), but it could be freshmen PG Dayviuon McKnight that determines whether or not this Gaither team will be dancing. They have some depth as well, and could be a huge factor in winning the region, but first thing first beat the Rockets. 2. Spencer County Bears- This Bears team, has some experience and a youth revolution, a company that with some good coaching and you have some excitement as witnessed on this board :thumb: The Bears can be looked at 2 different ways, #1 they are young and it will be their undoing OR #2 they are to young to know any better and play free. The Bears don't have much size and that worry's me for them, however they shoot the ball well and it can make up for somethings. They are led by Junior Jacob Coke (11ppg) and senior's Bryson Cannon (11)ppg and Daniel Wheeler (10ppg). Both upper classmen. Then comes the young kids in Conley, and Cole. I have said it before, they lose (20ppg) this year and some leadership, but exciting times in Taylorsville for sure. 3. Anderson County Bearcats- This team was pre-season a lot of people's choice to cut the nets down at the Roy, and they may still do that. It has been a roller coaster ride for these Bearcats, but when you have a good coaching staff, that roller coaster can become a smooth ride and that is what they are hoping for in Lawrencburg. Of course they are led by Cobe Penny at (24ppg) he can definitely beat you in a lot of different ways, but let us not forget that they have some other players that can hurt you. They have (3) other players averaging double digits in juniors, Gritton (12ppg) and Pittman (10ppg). Throw in a senior that I think is sneaky good in Garmon, and the Bearcats are not going away anytime soon. They will be in the conversation again next season as well. 4. Shelby County Rockets- This team in some eyes have under achieved but post season has nothing to do with regular season, and a win over Collins will be an awesome achievement for this team. They are playing better as of late, winning at Gallatin is not an easy task. The Rockets are led by Senior Jordan Armstrong, who quietly averages (12ppg) and (6 Reb) per game. They are starting to play their younger kids, and quite frankly look more excited and doing what Coach Cates is asking of them. The Rockets have 3-4 guys averaging around 8-9 points each in Robinson, Stainaker, and Edwards. They have a big team when they put all of these guys on the floor, if they get good guard play against the Titans it could get interesting Tuesday night. District Predictions Collins 63 Shelby County 54 Anderson County 67 Spencer County 65 Championship Game Collins 58 Anderson County 53 31st District: A battle of the small schools in New Castle this week. And to be honest, it would not surprise me at all to see any of the 5 advance and win this week. There are a lot of good coaches in this district and some heated rivalry's making it competitive round of games. Everyone has played each other twice and in some cases 3 times, so they know each other very well. Gallatin County Wildcats- The Jon Jones boys are healthy it appears. They had a bump in the road losing Wilson those last 2 weeks but it is post season time, and I am not wanting to play the Wildcats if I am an 8th region team. They play with a chip on their shoulder and will do anything to beat you. The Wildcats are led by all region selection Mason Wilson's (19ppg) contest. He can beat you several ways especially at the charity stripe where he is 85% and has made 154-183, but lets not forget Justin Rassmen chips in (11ppg) as well. This Gallatin team will grind you and find a way at the end if you let them. Henry County Wildcats- The Wildcats are hosting the tourney this week, and are eyeing their first district championship under Welch. They are led by Hinkle's (19ppg) that I am shocked didn't get an all region selection, and Foree's (10ppg). The Wildcats are more than capable of winning this district and are dangerous especially at home. The question remains who can get a bucket when teams focus on Hinkle. Owen County Rebels- This Rebels team has lost a lot close games this season, and played a brutal schedule down the stretch. I am one that thinks it will help them this week. Coach Duvall has won this district the last 4 years if I am not mistaken and knows how to get it done. They are led by McNally (13ppg), Osborne (11ppg) and Tackett (10ppg), all 3 averaging double figures. Eminence Warriors- Coach Brown has the Warriors primed to go into New Castle and win this district. They are led by all region selection Kemryn Jenkins (27ppg) and a slew of players averaging double figures. Dixie (12ppg), Jones (11ppg), Dotson (10ppg) all averaging double digits. The defensive end is where this team struggles and they have no depth. But this many kids that can score in an elimination game makes them dangerous. Carroll County Pantehers- This Panther team has been through a tough stretch, but scratched out 2 wins toward the end of the season. They are more than capable of beating any of these teams, as they have played them all well throughout the season. They are led by Evan McMahan's (18ppg) and Stewarts (12ppg), the bad news is these 2 guys are seniors. District Predictions Owen County 64 Carroll County 55 (play in game) Henry County 65 Eminence 62 Gallatin County 63 Owen County 59 Championshiop Game Gallatin County 58 Henry County 55 32nd District Simon Kenton Pioneers- This Pioneers team was taken a beating from a lot of people on this site, and I kept saying they needed younger kids to step up and help the big 2, and they have here lately. Making this team dangerous for post season. Coach Steiner plays a brutal schedule that alot of teams do not play, if the Pioneers played a soft schedule I am sure they would win their share of games, but it is post season that matters. The Pioneers have size and lots of teams do not. They are led by all region selection J.C. Hawkins (12ppg) and Kelch's (13ppg) (8 reb) per game. It could be the emergence of Sophomore Sergeant (10ppg) and 8th grader Neice that have sparked the Neers here lately. This team shoots 73% from FT line, and are a match up nightmare for most 8th region teams. Walton Verona Bearcats- What a season these Bearcats are having. Winners of the 8th region All A, and (24) regular season wins. Coach Brennan was named COY, a well deserved award for his efforts over the last couple seasons to prepare them for now. They are led by 2 all region performers in Deionte Miles (12ppg) and Zach Clinkenbeard (11ppg). A stat that sticks out to me about this team is their (927 rebounds), that means as a team they do not give up many second chance points. If the Bearcats can make you play their style they are dangerous. Williamstown Demons- Question remains if the Demons are healthy. They are the host of the 32nd district tourney which make them even more dangerous. They have put together a nice season, and Coach Harden has done a wonderful job. They are led by all region performer Brennan Stanley (18ppg), and if he is healthy will lead this team this week. Lets not forget that the Demons have (2) other guys that are averaging double digits in Fox (10ppg) and Jump (11ppg) both of these guys can get going and send your team home. This team has attempted over (700) 3 pointers making over (200), as they say, live and die by the 3. Grant County Braves- A team that is accustomed to somehow winning this district over the last couple year, and I think very capable of doing it again. The Braves are led by Zach Tuggles (15ppg) but also have (2) other guys hitting double digits in Adkins (13ppg) and McClure (11ppg). When you have 3 guys that can score you are dangerous in post season play. This team has over a (1,000) rebounds this season and indication of just how hard they play. District Prediction Simon Kenton 62 Walton Verona 61 (OT) Williamstown 64 Grant Count 60 Championship Game Simon Kenton 65 Williamstown 59

They are the regions best team when they are healthy, and now they are not healthy so it is what it is unfortunately. Winning a region does not start for 3 weeks still, all they have to do is get in and they have shot, just as good as anyone else. Still think Simon will win the 32nd somehow and have a chance as well.

I really do not consider this an upset as some may, Collins is missing a really good player, on the road against a hot team. Other kid is not shooting it well yet, he is rusty. However districts are at Collins, not on the road. They are struggling against zone right now, understandable so, considering the 2 kids that have been out are their shooters. I would not allow Coach Gaither to run his man offense's either, they will punish you if you do. When Shelby lost at home in OT their zone really bothered Collins.

That is exactly what they are afraid of, but since they are the governing body they make that call as well. We have the All A tourney and that is sufficient enough. Make it fair for all involved should be the goal.

Or you could only play (1) Christmas tourney, that would mean (10) games in district play, and 20 games left to play how you wish. If you did 3 at Christmas , you would still have 17 games left vs. Louisville teams.. Why would you have to play everyone in your region anyway?

The KHSAA has to get complete control over the post season, it is way to important to the athletes, and that is the main objective. Making everyone do the same thing has to happen, just not fair other wise. Everyone has great arguments on this thread. Whatever the KHSAA decides should impact all the schools in the state in the same way. You can not have 5-10 different district plans in place across the state if they are all playing for one championship, and that is being lenient, there may be more than that. I have always been a big fan of playing twice, it is head to head competition, if a school wishes not to play twice because of their size, example KSD does that in the 12th region, then they are the #4/#5 seed. Tie breaker is points allowed inside your district teams 1. I know that a great team might want to play tougher competition some years and avoid bad schools in their district BUT, you are not going to be great every year 2. I know that the bad schools don't want a 40 point beat down 6 times but you won't be bad every year 3. District travel, 3 more home games, rivalry's, money at gate to benefit athletes on athletic program, all beneficial Did you know that in Western part of the state there are teams that get to go to the region without ever playing a district tournament game? In the 8th region we have one district out of the 4 that play each other twice..the other 3 are so complicated that you would have to a major in finance to figure them out. Then this happens, you get to the regional draw, there is multiple awful teams in the regional tourney, a team draws them and gets to coast into semi's. In the same bracket a winner that is a mediocre district and an awful loser from another district, draw each other, then that team gets another cake walk into the regional final. Hypothetically speaking here, they have a distinct advantage in the regional final, especially since they are back to back nights. KHSAA should be after the 8 best teams making the regional's and with all of these districts doing there own thing that just doesn't happen, making it an unfair playing field, and it is POST SEASON, no one should have distinct advantage. In the 6th/7th region district winners host first game of regional if I am not mistaken and the final 4 go somewhere else. Just more regions that do things completely different than most.
